Really hope he's better soon and you can avoid the x Ray.

BiteyShark · 24/10/2017 21:26

This isn't looking good. Fed a bit of food around 6pm with some hydrating fluid and he has just been sick 3 times and is looking so upset. I am now camped out on the kitchen sofa with him. Looks like it's going to be a long night Sad

Wolfiefan · 24/10/2017 21:41

Oh no. Coming out in sympathy here. We've had vomit. I'm hoping hers was a result of not chewing. Take care Bitey.

CornflakeHomunculus · 24/10/2017 21:52

Is he drinking at all and, if so, is he managing to keep any down Bitey?

Keep an eye on him for any signs he might be getting dehydrated; his skin not springing back if you pull it up, dry gums, sunken eyes, etc.

BiteyShark · 24/10/2017 22:08

He hasn't drunk anything since his food at around 6 but I just checked his skin on his neck and it sprung back. I have left some of the hydrating fluid out near him and will try and coax him to drink again. He has been pacing about, obviously in discomfort, but has finally settled on his bed just by me on the floor next to the sofa so hoping he's feeling better (he also growled as some imaginary noise which is a good sign as still feeling well enough to fight of monsters Grin).

Despite all his previous ailments this is very unusual for him to be so unwell so planning on sticking by him throughout the night. I really hope he hasn't eaten anything that is causing a blockage but I guess only an X-ray will rule that out.

Wolfiefan · 24/10/2017 22:10

Would you be able to syringe a tiny bit of water in his mouth?
You know when you're desperate to see dog poo. Even in the house. Any poo will do!
Yep that.
Keeping it all crossed for Bitey pup.

BiteyShark · 25/10/2017 06:31

Well that was an awful night for both of us. Taps fingers waiting for vets to open. I know it could be other things but right now I think X-ray to rule obstruction out would be great. Thank god for insurance as all his previous ailments have added up but at least anything big is covered.

ClayPigeon · 25/10/2017 07:55

Sorry to hear that Bitey. Hope it's good news at the vets.

Thank you to PPs for posting their routines, that's really really helpful. I'm going to work on a loose routine for us. As my mum will be looking after her once I go back to work, I think this will help her to settle there too.

Elphame, we will be doing puppy training classes, just waiting for her to settle in a bit but I might start this weekend as she appears to be doing ok on this front. I let her out of the crate in the end as she'd been barking for about 45 minutes. She'd also eaten but not pooed so I was worried she was indicating she wanted to go.

Unfortunately, it appears she doesn't like the crate. The first night was a fluke I think. I haven't forced the issue as I intend to do some training getting her used to being in there for short periods. I'm giving her her meals in there as part of this but she doesn't seem that interested in her food. Could be this particular flavour (using same brand as fosters) or because her treat intake has been upped. She's still pooing so not too worried at the moment. Also turns out she's LOVES pigs ears - just not in the crate.

Last couple of nights I've slept on the sofa and ignored her attempts to get up there with me. She quickly goes off into the kitchen and chews her chews or goes to sleep. She's allowed to sleep on the sofa during the day. Does this sound ok and not confusing for her? I only prevent her coming up there when the lights are off. I just don't want her to become reliant on me being there for her to sleep at night.

We also took her out to Pets at Home to buy some more chews and toys. She was quite frightened though. I have plans to take her to an indoor dog play centre on Friday. Just mindful that she's not keen on her own reflection and other animals so want to start some socialising ASAP. Equally don't want to push her too much because of all the changes she's experienced recently. Arrrghh, so bloody confusing knowing what to do for the best!

Best thing we bought at PaH was some mimi tennis balls. She's absolutely loves them. She's so good at playing fetch, already dropping the ball quite well. We're all totally in love here! Grin

Wolfiefan · 25/10/2017 09:10

Bitey an x Ray sounds like a good idea.
Clay mine would only settle in her crate to start with if I was next to it! After three weeks I made it back to bed!
Take treats when encountering new experiences. Treat and praise. Best to allow pup to stand back and think about it before deciding it isn't scary!
Don't know about the sofa thing. Mine is allowed to sit on it (she's huge) but not climb on it.

bluetongue · 25/10/2017 09:42

Oh no Bitey. Poor Bitey dog. Sounds like it might be something serious. Hopefully easily fixed. They do make us worry Sad

Bluepuppy going through his teenage phase had me hit a bit of a bump on the weekend. Obviously I knew before I got him that puppies and dogs chew and need training but the reality can still be a rude shock. He's just a little whippet, it's not like I went out and got a wildly unsuitable dog for me like a GSD or husky!

Anyway, after a bit of a cry I've upped my game and got him more things to chew in the hope of preserving my house and furniture. He loved the treats in taped up ceral boxes and the cardboard box I left for him in the backyard.

DeepfriedPizza · 25/10/2017 09:45

Fingers crossed bitey pup picks up soon. what a worry (again) Haloween Sad

Pizzapup is doing quite well, she seems to just be plodding along and doing nothing significant to warrant me posting. It's her birthday next week.

Elphame · 25/10/2017 09:46

Oh dear - hope Biteypup is OK. Keep us updated.

Clay - I'd have cracked before 45 minutes. Elfpup is only allowed to sleep on the sofa if he's on my lap (the definition of lap is very loose here Wink). At the moment he still won't let me leave a room without him, he's afraid he might be missing some fun but I assume that will eventually wear off so currently it's a moot point. I intend to stick to it though!

I am working on getting the naps from my lap to the crate. He gets a fabulous treat in the crate that he gets nowhere else and I only put him in when I know he's tired. We have a token protest whine when he finishes the chew and then he is asleep. Luckily he's never minded the crate at night - we did the bedroom and move thing with him but I suspect your pup may well have memories of being crated for hours whilst in transit which isn't going to help.

I'd let her watch the puppy play sessions until she shows signs of wanting to join in. They are quite full on - my feisty little thug takes on pups 3 times his size! I was really worried about him the first time - now I worry about his playmates! They all seem to love it though.

He's tired today so being somewhat annoying. He was angelic over the pub lunch but it was classes last night and then we went to the pub so he was thoroughly over stimulated and also lost 4 hours of sleep. And don't we know it today.

He's off to play with a friend's children this morning so hopefully he'll have a long nap when we get back and catch up a abit

BiteyShark · 25/10/2017 10:00

BiteyDog has been admitted and although I am Sad I am so relieved as we will at least know for sure if it is an obstruction as he is in so much pain (said his stomach was very tender and he didn't want to be examined).

I am off to crack on with some work and also to try and take my mind of the fact that it's heartbreaking to leave them.

Hope everyone's pups are fine.

Wolfiefan · 25/10/2017 10:01

But you will soon have an answer Bitey. He will get decent pain relief. Fingers crossed it's good news.

SkeletonSkins · 25/10/2017 10:11

Oh poor Bitey, does sound like an obstruction to me, hopefully if it is they can get it straight out. Try not to worry - dogs eat all sorts all the time so I gather it's quite a common situation for vets!

GetTheStartyParted · 25/10/2017 11:00

@BiteyShark thinking of you and BiteyDog. I hope you soon hear what's wrong and that he's on the mend too.

DeepfriedPizza · 25/10/2017 11:43

Thinking of you and biteypup Flowers

BiteyShark · 25/10/2017 12:01

Thanks all, I am comfort eating at the moment wishing the phone would ring.

Wolfiefan · 25/10/2017 14:19

Hope it does soon. With good news.

Elphame · 25/10/2017 14:53

Any news yet Bitey ?

BiteyShark · 25/10/2017 14:59

No news and the wait is painful. I didn't ask specifically but I presumed the X-ray would be done today but I guess he's classed as an extra so has to wait for a space. I am clock and phone watching Sad

Wolfiefan · 25/10/2017 15:23

At least it shows they don't deem him an emergency? If they were worried about him then he would be straight in.

BiteyShark · 25/10/2017 15:53

I was impatient and phoned. They had lots of emergencies today so he's not been done yet but will be very soon. I just want my boy back so I can spoil him Sad. Oh well back to clock and phone watching.

SkeletonSkins · 25/10/2017 16:00

Thinking of you Bitey it must be absolute hell. Hoping he's home safe and sound tonight z

BiteyShark · 25/10/2017 16:40

Phew no sign of any blockage. Just off to collect him. He has lots of medication to try and settle his stomach but so pleased the little monkey hasn't been consuming things he shouldn't have Grin
