Wolfie I think we use the same monthly worming/flea treatment of nexgard which seems to agree with BiteyDog. How annoying that WolfiePup has decided she doesn't like it.

Our vets also include drontal for tapeworms every 6 months and it's this one that caused the major stomach upset a week or so ago but I have to use it again to rule out that it was just a coincidence. The problem is if it happens again it means yet another tablet to try Sad

Wolfiefan · 18/09/2017 18:31

Yes. It is annoying. This month's solution involved me using a finger to dig marrowbone out of her bone and smearing it on the tablet. Sooo not doing that again. Yuck!!
We do drontal too. Have that to look forward to next week. Hope it goes ok.

DeepfriedPizza · 18/09/2017 19:51

BeThe have you tried warm water in the dry food to bring out the aroma? I've read that's a way to get them interested then reduce the amount if water over time.
Hopefully Biteydog doesn't shart for you.
We're lucky that PizzaPup isn't fussy about food but she eats everything on the ground when out walking

BiteyShark · 18/09/2017 20:30

No sign of any vomiting or diarrhoea yet but bloody hell he cannot settle. He is hyper and up and down which is so not like him at this time of the night Sad

Soubriquet · 18/09/2017 20:35

Same reaction as what my Nero did on drontol. Was restless all night. Ended up having to sleep outside with him as it was the only respite he could get was outside.

I use milbemax now

Greyhorses · 18/09/2017 20:58

What age did your puppies start asking to go outside?

Ours is fabulous in every way except she is proving very hard to house train. She's 16 weeks and will go to the toilet outside when promted but will not hold it even for a second and will just wee/poo wherever if I'm not behind her waiting.

She is let out regularly and we are going the positive reinforcement for using outside type method. She nearly always wees outside but if I am not in the room for half an hour there's always a puddle and always at night. She will happily wee the bed too!

Is it still normal at 4 months Confused

Wolfiefan · 18/09/2017 21:10

Yes Grey I'm afraid so!
Bitey that doesn't sound good. Hoping for a quiet night. Sad

Greyhorses · 18/09/2017 21:14

Ah wolfie I thought she would be clean by now! Blush

I seem to remember all of the others being housetrained in days but maybe my brain has blocked it out!

Wolfiefan · 18/09/2017 23:04

Mine took bloody ages.
Latest issue is filthy ears. She was head shaking. I cleaned them (not deep in the ear canal and not using anything that could aggravate them). She stopped head shaking but now her ears are filthy again.

BiteyShark · 19/09/2017 05:34

Fortunately BiteyDog eventually crashed asleep yesterday so it wasn't as bad as you had it Soubriquet but I think I will ask for something different next time.

Grey my dog took many weeks to be fully housetrained where he would hold it and ask to go out. I stayed camped in the kitchen until I was sure he had really got it to avoid having to clean accidents up everywhere. I also had to get up in the night to wake him to toilet as he couldn't hold it all night otherwise.

Having a spaniel I expected ear problems Wolfie but so far we haven't had any so no idea how to prevent or clean them.

DeepfriedPizza · 19/09/2017 06:34

PizzaPup was up from 2.15am. Just wouldn't settle. It's going to be a long day

BeTheHokeyMan · 19/09/2017 09:33

Thanks for that tip pizzaFlowers sorry to hear pizzapup had a bad night its so tiring isn't it?
Oh Wolfie looking at their ears never even occurred to me I'm embarrassed to admit Blush is it something I need to do regularly? What do I use to clean them god I'm clueless !

Toilet training going well-with me that is ,I lay down for an hour yesterday and she ended up doing two wees on the sitting room floor as they didn't bring her out regularly ffs. Also still getting the random phantom poo on the mat during the night no matter how many times I bring her outside Grin I have to laugh because if I don't I'll crack up.Going to wash the mat with vinegar and then sprinkle with soda and hoover and hopefully that will make it less appealing

BiteyShark · 19/09/2017 09:55

BeThe I take it you aren't using a crate if you are finding poos on the mat? If that is the case could you use a baby monitor so you can see/hear when she stirs in the night so you can get up and let her out?

BiteyShark · 19/09/2017 09:56

BiteyDog is off his food this morning, runny poos and a bit hyper again. Really not liking giving him the drontal but at least no vomiting so he won't have to repeat it again.

bluetongue · 19/09/2017 12:56

Poor Bitey dog. He really is a bit of a delicate flower isn't he Grin

I was lucky that I really didn't have that much trouble toilet training Bluepuppy. He certainly has enough quirks to make up for it!

So glad I persevered with my special needs boy. He really is much better with his anxiety. Now I can see that I'm not a bad owner, just got a difficult puppy for my first dog. I really believe that if I hadn't been able to keep him I wouldn't ever have felt worthy of having another dog Sad

BiteyShark · 19/09/2017 13:08

blue It's so good that you came out the other side with bluepup as they make such good companions but when they are giving you stress it's hard to believe it will get better.

Yes BiteyDog does seem to be a delicate flower [sigh]. You would never believe it if you saw him as he is quite muscular and the vet always comments on how healthy he is Confused but if he can injure himself or pick up a bug he will Grin.

Fillybuster · 19/09/2017 15:06

Eek. Clearly I need to up my game on washing bedding - we've had Fillypup for 4 weeks and I've not cleaned any of it BlushBlushBlush And yes, I had a peek this morning and it's filthy it could use a wipe out...

Oh dear. I'm a bad dog owner aren't I?

Anal glands . Who knew?! Shock

Wolfiefan · 19/09/2017 15:53

Meh? Dirty beds? I wash when the pattern isn't easy to see through the hair!!! Grin
The main issue is she's so big and tends to bring a fair bit of outside in with her. And you don't generally bath wolfhounds so she whiffs if I don't wash bedding. It's just we have vet bed for nighttime and daytime and in the car and a different piece for showing. That's a lot of washing when each piece is wolfie sized.
I don't look in her ears much BTW. It's just she was head shaking. Two long term dog owners have suggested she doesn't need a vet and told me what to get. It's ordered.
Yes Bitey pup is sensitive.
And Blue you have done brilliantly. Many would have given up.
It's madam's birthday tomorrow. We may risk a trip to the beach!

Fillybuster · 19/09/2017 16:25

Blinking heck. I read your post and then googled wolfhounds images....

Wolfiefan · 19/09/2017 16:28

Haha! She's just a baby puppy!

BeTheHokeyMan · 19/09/2017 17:29

Oh my goodness the size of wolfiepup!! She is gorgeous Flowers

No not crating at night she sleeps on our bed or on the ground in our room .I'm a light sleeper so hear her stir but she seems to time the poop when I nip to the loo or turn my back for two seconds Hmm

Wolfiefan · 19/09/2017 18:53

What helped for me was to attach a word to the wees. She never did poo in the house. Now if we are going in the car or in a shop or to training I can tell her to see before we go.
It's so hard. We were literally on puppee (see what I did there?) watch for weeks. And you've seen nothing until you've seen a wolfhound sized accident!

GooodMythicalMorning · 19/09/2017 19:14

We just say "Wee wees?/ poo poo?" When we take him out.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 19/09/2017 19:29

It's not saying it when you take them out. It's saying it when they are mid pee! That's how they associate the word with the action. So I say good girl wolfiepup wee wee. As she's weeing. She realises that weeing outside is good and that the phrase related to the doing of the wee!
I spend too much time discussing wee and poo on here!

BiteyShark · 19/09/2017 19:41

Grin I can't believe how obsessed having a dog makes you about how they pee and poo. I still praise BiteyDog when he goes outside and the number of times I study his poo to work out whether he is healthy/eating well is way too much Blush
