What on earth is this "spray painted" dog poo about?!?

It all started in one of the woodlands around here. Dog poo that grotty people hadn't picked up, suddenly started being covered in what looked like blue spray paint in a perfect square over and around it. Obviously I thought it was very odd.

Then the local nature reserve started having yellow circles over dog poo left behind. This yellow stains grass areas but doesn't seem to stay on tarmac. So by this point I'm even more wtf HmmConfused

Then on another walk there has now started to be what looks like talcum powder thrown on dog poos left behind.

So does anybody know what on earth this stuff is and why it's being put on? Confused

I was walking the dog today and thinking about this issue. There is a big increase in poo being left in our park. On the paths and in the grass, not in stick and flick areas.

I was thinking of picking it up one walking. Bringing a bin liner with me and clearing it up and also picking up the dumped poo bags. But then I couldn't decide if it would help.

So, do you think people are more likely to leave poo on the ground if it is clear or if it has other poo there. Maybe they think 'other people don't pick up why should I?'

I also thought that when I gave community ideas like this people look at me like a gulliable weirdo.

I think when there is poo already there people are more inclined to leave their dogs poo behind. Based solely on how it seemed around here pre-spray paint. I'll be keeping an eye out to see if the spray paint seems to help or not here.

Ah, that leaving poo if other's do probably explains why all the poo signs that my council puts up say 'most people in this area pick up'.

Strange how some people are so easily led by what other, lazy, antisolcial people do.

Update
The amount of dog poo left on the path has significantly dropped (almost none at all now) and off the path of say it's improved by around 1/3. I'm still really surprised it's worked.

There was on the 3rd/4th of the month two large dog poos less than 30cm either side of the new bin, which I felt was especially bad / shocking.

I'm now wondering if I could achieve the same if I sprayed the poos left on the path outside DS's school, once they go back in September. Am I allowed to just get some of this biodegradable spray paint and do it? It gets really bad there especially since so many DC step in it, thus spreading it all over. It often ends up like an assault course to get across with a 2 and 5yr old.

at least its worth a try and in a small community as ours is dog walkers will soon rumble what dog might be leaving it. Its always worth chatting with others (or is this not allowed in the UK?) and asking the question what sort of owners would leave such a mess for others, particularly children to step in. That from experience definitely works especially if the dog poo is highlighted in biodegradable paint. .
