The weather is awful. Does your dog walk in the rain?

Eric walks in wind, rain, snow, sleet, fog whatever is thrown at us really. Today it is really awful here, but regardless Eric has been out for a good hour. He's obviously got wet through and filthy as have I Hmm but two complete strangers have chastised me for taking him out in this weather.
Admittedly being small and white and poodly he does look a delicate soul but he is fit and hardy and as I told them it is he that drags me out and not the other way round.
So do you all have sensible dogs who like to stay clean and dry because I've only seen one other dog out today or are you all wet and muddy today like me? Go on make me feel better.

Mine love to walk in the rain.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/06/2017 22:10

Mine won't even sit if the ground is wet. He does a sort of curtsey and lowers his bum towards the ground and hovers. It looks very uncomfortable.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 29/06/2017 22:11

No. I have two terriers and they loathe the rain. Even drizzle produces doleful looks and threats to call the RSPCA. Hmm

Yokohamajojo · 30/06/2017 10:13

Nope! Irish Terrier hates the rain, not sure how they coped helping out in the trenches in the Great War and all Confused

fleshmarketclose · 30/06/2017 12:59

Well it's dry again here today so much more pleasant to walk in after four wet walks and more dogs about for Eric to play with which is always a bonus as they tire him out better. Glad to hear I'm not the only one getting wet and muddy anyway but quite jealous of the ones with weather shy dogs.

My dog (Toller) loves all kinds of weather apart from really hot spells. He especially loves cold, windy days with frost on the ground but rain will do as well. We're frequently the only people trudging (me) or galloping (him) around the park in horizontal rain Hmm

IdaDown · 30/06/2017 21:22

Nope, DBit of Everything dog won't go out if it's
Raining
Drizzling
Misty/Foggy
Dark
Snow
I have tried and failed.

Won't wear a coat - walks like John Wayne and won't wee.
Doesn't like walking on shingle/gravel.
Avoids puddles

No - not precious at all.

RandomMess · 30/06/2017 21:31

Jack Russell owner and mine also point blank refuses to step out in the rain -and- -cold- -and- -wind- -and- -dark- even with one of her many coats on and she loves wearing her coats/jumpers!

BLUEsNewSpringWatch · 01/07/2017 20:49

I'm glad there are so many others with dogs, like mine, who happily walk in the rain but hates going outside for a wee when there is even slight drizzle.

applesareredandgreen · 01/07/2017 21:03

Ha ha interesting that the 3 posters who have jack Russell's say that their dogs don't like rain, snow, heat etc

We have a one year old JRT who has disliked cold and rain- will sit down under a bush and cry if I drag him out in bad weather . We thought that this was because he was a spring puppy his first experiences were of warm weather, however, when we recently had hot weather he also refused to walk - lay down on the pavement and gave me big sad eyes until I took him back home!

RandomMess · 01/07/2017 21:05

We've had ours sit under cars and refuse to move before Blush

Bath times are interesting too!

InfiniteSheldon · 01/07/2017 21:10

Mines a hot weather refuser too won't walk bet 9am and 9 pm. Not keen on wind either luckily he only weighs 4k so I just tuck him on my coat and carry him home.

RandomMess · 01/07/2017 21:28

When it's hot though you do need to check the pavement temperature, they can get sore/blistered paws!

MyNewKitchen · 01/07/2017 21:30

My lab os an absolute pansy 😂 He refuses to go out in the rain.. or if it has recently rained. He runs out to the garden.. and pees UNDER THE TRAMPOLINE to stop him getting wet Hmm. If i put the lead on him, he plonks his arse down in the hallway and refuses to budge. Pansy.. absolute pansy...

ItsNachoCheese · 01/07/2017 21:34

Nacho hates any form of water on or near him. He wont even walk through a puddle he either jumps over it or goes around it 😂 he has to wear a jacket if its raining or he wont put a paw out the door

ItsNachoCheese · 01/07/2017 21:38

Hes a lab x staffy i thought they liked water? Grin

InfiniteSheldon · 01/07/2017 21:40

Yes I know the 5 second rule tbf h gets heat exhaustion very quickly so we just don't go out if it's hot I am very careful of my pampered pooch Grin

FortunaMajor · 01/07/2017 21:47

My German Shepherd DOES. NOT. GET. WET. It's a thing and she will not go out in the rain. If we are out and it starts to rain I get dragged back home. If I'm not quick enough to get the towel out to dry her, she rubs herself along my sofas in revenge.

Cocobananas · 01/07/2017 22:39

fleshmarketclose, will join in feeling a bit cheated in not having a dog who refuses to walk in bad weather. My pup loves to be outside in all weathers, no fear of wind, rain, loves to jump through puddles. Loves tractors trundling by, walkers, joggers, big lorries an especial favourite...has very few fears but hasn't experienced snow yet!
