Anyone use this flea treatment on their dog? Any positive or horror stories welcome. It's a new one for me!

I have just swopped to nexgard spectra for all my worm, flea and tick treatment because my lovely dog likes to roll in poo and go for a swim so spot on stuff was getting washed off.

I have only used it once so far but no side affects (touch wood). Advocate smelt horrible and I think the smell drove him bonkers so much better in that respect.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 14/06/2017 13:43

I use it on both my dogs - no issues at all.

GirlDog even broke into them and ate half a packet in one go and still had no ill effects.

Wolfiefan · 14/06/2017 13:45

Hi Bitey nearly asked on the puppy survival thread!
We have used Advocate up until now. But as she's so big it has to go on about 5 places and looks like she's been half drowned. Makes it hard to put a collar on and she can't go to a show or dog training covered in the stuff and stinking.
We signed up to a monthly payment scheme and were offered this as a superior product. Plus it deals with ticks.

Allfur!
Eek!
I suppose I'm thinking of Bravecto. I also have serious precious first puppy syndrome. And yes. She's a special baby snowflake! Grin

Yes I didn't like advocate, made him wet and if we put it on at night he would not sleep as I think the smell was too powerful and in the day he used to throw himself on poo just to annoy me as I could not wash him :) We also then needed the seresto tick collar so that meant two collars which was a pain.

I really like the tablet for those reasons and this was also included in my vets monthly plan so jumped at moving to it once they explained what it did.

Wolfiefan · 14/06/2017 13:56

Good stuff. Now just hoping she takes it! Confused

We use it. Bonus is he seems to love the taste of it so I have no problems getting him to take it.

Noitsnotteatimeyet · 14/06/2017 20:28

We've been using it for a couple of years as ddog reacts very badly to advocate. We've had no problems at all, no fleas and no ticks and he thinks it's a special treat so wolfs it down. It's been brilliant!

user1490142285 · 14/06/2017 21:02

Yes, have been using it on ours for about a year and no issues, but after their last stay w dog minder/walker (we were away for the weekend and couldn't take them) they came home crawling with fleas, which now seem to have taken hold in the house.

Despite - on the day they came home - washing everything they touched, flea combing and washing them, and the fact that they hadn't even been in the house overnight, they are now completely infested. DH and I are covered in bites. I'm flea combing the dogs every day and this Thurs (going to visit in-laws for the weekend) I think we'll dust everything with diatomaceous earth and hoover when we get home.

Vet says it may take two weeks for the flea cycle to complete so I do wonder what the point of Nexgard is if it means we're going to have two weeks of fleas in the house every time they come home with a flea on them. They go out with the dog walker twice a week so if they're getting fleas from dog walker's dogs or a dog in the group he walks, this means they'll be constantly covered in fleas - ?

So Idk if that helps - ? - but if you just have the one dog at home with you and they don't mix with a lot of others you should be fine. We have never had anything like this with ours before.

MaitlandGirl · 14/06/2017 21:28

We use Nexgard as one of our papillons is sensitive to the drop on type flea treatments and we need something to cover paralysis ticks.

Our other option was Bravecto but while that offers 3mths cover for fleas it's only 6weeks for ticks.

Our dogs love them. We never have any trouble getting them to take them.

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 14/06/2017 22:53

I don't use any chemical flee or tick treatment on my dog. So far I have twisted off one tick with no ill effect and no flees. I do feed her Billy no mates and check her all over regularly. I don't worm her either just get her poo checked for worms regularly.
The way I see it is that I wouldn't take it myself or give it to my kids so I won't give it to my dog.

Wolfiefan · 14/06/2017 22:58

I do take pills myself (not for fleas!) and am happy to treat with chemicals. I just wanted to know about this particular treatment.

I wish there was a tablet to kill all the bloody things that try and bite me on our walks Grin

Floralnomad · 15/06/2017 13:46

thewolfsjustapuppy can I just ask what precautions you use against lungworm then .

Wolfiefan · 15/06/2017 14:38

Giant girl wolfed it down! Grin

OP posts:
Thewolfsjustapuppy · 15/06/2017 14:44

Hi flora,
I send poo off for checks that include lungworm eggs. She can't take mobilax as a preventative anyway as it makes her sick. If we find lungworm eggs I'll treat appropriately. We don't live in a very high risk area either which helps Smile

Floralnomad · 15/06/2017 15:03

Ok , so there's no prevention you just hope that you can cure it / it hasn't caused too much damage by the time you find it . Thanks .

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 16/06/2017 08:11

Oh, I didn't realise your post was a passive aggressive dig at my canine husbandry Hmm.

BiteyShark · 16/06/2017 09:18

Wolfiefan that's good that she liked it. Mine spat it out twice before eating it but I think he thought I was going to give him further treats so was waiting to see what else appeared.

I haven't spotted any recent ticks and he was getting them daily so fingers crossed it carries on working.

Floralnomad · 16/06/2017 09:35

It wasn't , I would love to not feed my dog chemicals but I'm in the SE and apparently 50% of foxes now carry lungworm here and it's quite a high risk area for dogs . My dog has an autoimmune disease so already takes daily medication and he also has tracheal problems so if he got lungworm I doubt he'd survive it , that's why I wondered if you had some preventative measure . Sorry if it came across as snippy .

AliceWilliam · 03/11/2022 11:51

Yes my dog was on Revolution before but than it is out of stock, Now I am using Nexgard brand instead for my dog, and it works too! after giving 1 chew to my dog back last month, i haven’t seen her with any fleas or ticks now & it prevents found here cheapest online at budget pet care they have good services.

GuyFawkesDay · 03/11/2022 20:41

Nexguard well tolerated and no sloppy poop etc. No fleas or ticks etc

Thumbs up from FawkesPup

roisinrose · 03/11/2022 20:59

Stopped using when became aware of the horrific adverse effects in dogs - including death.

I take my chances with a worm count and natural products now .

Please Google Nexgard and do your research first - for your dog's sake.

woohoowoohoo · 03/11/2022 22:09

I use it because I have a cat and fox poo eating boy. His risks from that greatly outweigh risks of medication. The fox poo eating is particularly revolting.

GuyFawkesDay · 04/11/2022 06:36

I'll forgo "Dr Google" and rely on other more scientific sources I think.
