Do you talk to your dog? and if so, what about? General dog stuff, re food, bed time etc, or actual conversations...

OP posts:
ohmygodyouguys · 06/05/2017 13:09

Me and DH take it a step further, one of us will say something to the dog, the other will reply in (what we imagine is) the dog's voice....conversations are usually about the lack of dog biscuits in the house.....

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 06/05/2017 13:12

yes, i talk to the cats too

We are very PA about things

I don't know why daddy didn't feed you darling, yes, you are right< pause again> it is very rude, I forgot to tell you he went in the kitchen earlier and came back with a cup of tea, just for himself yes, nothing for me. Shall we go to the kitchen, I can do your supper and make my own cup of tea

DH just rolls his eyes! Tbf, he rarely makes his own tea without getting me one, I just like to torment him.

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 06/05/2017 13:13

one of us will say something to the dog, the other will reply in (what we imagine is) the dog's voice.

Oh, yes, we do this too. When we had two dogs, they had quite different voices and perspectives on the world Grin.

ZilphasHatpin · 06/05/2017 13:14

Ah my dog moves for beep beep as well!

Grin it translates well into doggy talk!

ohmygodyouguys · 06/05/2017 13:15

Oh thank God it's not just us LordRothermere! I was thinking we were strange!

MardAsSnails · 06/05/2017 13:20

Our dogs talk back too honest

I have my old boys ashes in my study and I find myself talking to him sometimes. I thought I was mad, until I caught DH talking to our young girls ashes the other day (hers are in his study because she was his dog)

The two living dogs get talked to as well, but both of them are a little bit dim so you don't get many opinions out of them.

MardAsSnails · 06/05/2017 13:22

yogagirl I'm not sure I agree with you on them never saying any mean words - you should have seen the huff my lab was in with me the other day! I went away for a week and left him with DH, and he was distinctly unchuffed. You could almost hear him grouching at me.

Wolfiefan · 06/05/2017 13:23

Tondelaya
I do that. "Did daddy leave you. Poor baby puppy!"
I'm glad nobody flamed me for swearing at my dog! It's rare!!

SureIusedtobetaller · 06/05/2017 13:27

Talk to him, we reply for him (he is really sweary for some reason) and sing to him.
He just loves all the attention.

Bubble2bubble · 06/05/2017 14:05

Oh gosh yes.
The dogs listen to me, DH and the dcs don't.
I also do the PA " ddog, tell daddy he needs to clear table or you'll do it for him" and "oh look ddog, daddy left the cheese out for you" Blush

CornflakeHomunculus · 06/05/2017 14:16

Surely it would be rude not to?! I chatter away to mine all the time. DH and I also have conversations where one of us will talk to a dog and the other will answer as said dog. They've all got their own voices/accents and everything.

We do the making up songs thing as well. A favourite is 'Silly Whippets' which is sung to the tune of 'Pretty Women' from Sweeney Todd. We insert whatever activity they're currently up to into it.

Wolfie if it makes you feel any better DWhippet1 actually answers to "wazzock" now as he gets called it so much Blush Grin

BuzzKillington · 06/05/2017 14:19

I not only talk to the dog, I speak for him too.

GypsyWanderer · 06/05/2017 14:28

I talk to mine all the time about everything really. But to be honest before I had dogs I would always talk to myself so I guess now I can do it without looking crazy (not as crazy).

LumelaMme · 06/05/2017 17:07

One of ours talks to us. Fluent dog, usually easily translatable: Open da door... turn on da heat... I eat cat's left-overs, yes?

So of course we talk back.

Nancy91 · 07/05/2017 07:20

I sang a lullaby to my dog the other night. I need to sort my life out Blush

Rubberduckies · 07/05/2017 08:22

All the time. Dh hates it, says we shouldn't talk to the dog like she's a person ("what have you been up to ddog? Where shall we go for a walk? Sorry dog you can't come to work today etc etc)

But I know he talks to her too. He tried to sound mean like he hates her, but it's always said in an affectionate way with lots of play and cuddles - so she will now rush over if he calls "idiot! Where are you?" Or "Fool! Come eat this cheese I dropped accidentally on purpose...."

purplecoathanger · 07/05/2017 13:13

My DH pretends he's not in love with our dog but I hear him talking to her in a daft voice. He calls her doggy and she thinks that's her name.

DollyMcDolly · 07/05/2017 13:15

I sing to my dog. No idea why but I can't help it. They are small, made up songs and now my son does it. Drives DH mad.

Kitsandkids · 07/05/2017 13:28

I talk to the dog and he talks back (well it's me in 'his' voice but it's what I imagine he's saying!). He's very agreeable generally but I do have to be careful when out on walks as more than once the dog and I have been chatting away and a random person who I didn't know was there has overtaken us - which embarrasses me greatly as they must have heard my dog voice!

I also have different voices for the two cats and the rabbit. We can't get any more pets as there's only so many voices I can do!

MrsMelron · 21/05/2017 22:43

All the time! I seriously think they understand me most of the time as well. I work away from home a fair bit, I've been known to Skype them Grin. Better company than most humans though, tbf.

RickOShay · 21/05/2017 23:02

I tell my dog I love him more than I say it to dh. I think I probably do actually. Grin

winglesspegasus · 21/05/2017 23:31

talk to all my animals
each has a song
training new pup- tell her everything
she learns by repetition
neighbors name is bob
when she sees him i tell her
thats bob.
things that startle her are JUST
just a truck
just a motorcycle
just a big honkin clap of thunder
JUST makes everything ok
bad things are asshole good things are babies
past dog had vocab of more than 2000 words and could do 3rd party stuff
go tell dad suppers ready
he would go and sit in front of dad and if he was ignored would grumble in his throat til dad came to the table.
wheres brother?find brother for me
the trick is using the same words and tone.thats how we learn language
we also discuss"classic rock"
i have a radio outside we listen to while learning to be a good kid.
her plush and chew toys all have names.shes5 months old and already knows squirrel, yella fella(long yellow toy)elmo and bluebunny.
never underestimate your animal
can only learn as much as you teach them
talk sing.i dance and she does too.
previous boy used to bop to rockabilly and do wap.
i would play it just to watch
i would be cleaning and he would be behind me boppin to the music

anon1987 · 22/05/2017 00:08

Yes I do talk to my dog. She's. Wet clever and quite human like.
In fact she's so clever I don't even have to tell her what to do anymore.
For example when my dp and I are about to have some alone time, she immediately leaves the room, she just senses what I'm about to ask of her.

Does anyone have an explanation for this??
It's getting quite ridiculous, it's like she's telepathic!?.

anon1987 · 22/05/2017 00:08

No wet clever 😂 very clever i mean!

anon1987 · 22/05/2017 00:08

Not wet clever 🤦🏻‍♀️
