Maybe the people on the puppy survival thread would like to hide this one! Anyone else got their hands full?

Very useful helpersWink

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 12/05/2017 17:24

Moral boosters anyway, just as well green is her colour as it's all down one of her sides now Grin

BiteyShark · 12/05/2017 17:35

Awww and they always look so proud when they are helping you Grin

Kitsandkids · 12/05/2017 17:41

Thanks for the chewy suggestions Bitey. He loves chewy food but most of what we've previously tried doesn't last him very long.

In the end I lay down on the sofa to have a nap and he lay on the floor and napped with me. Which was nice but it didn't get my housework done!

Speaking of dogs helping, yesterday I was encouraging me to fetch any socks that fell out of the washing machine while I was transferring them to the dryer, and I dropped a few on purpose. He seemed to be getting the hang of it and seemed pleased to help though I'm not sure the rest of the family will appreciate slobbery socks!

Grin I had to double check he isn't a sheep! It's been tipping it down all day here so pup has resorted to throwing her own tennis balls 🎾

JigglyTuff · 13/05/2017 11:03

Thanks for the wobble Kong recommendation Bitey. I had to show him what to do (for an intelligent breed, he can be very thick at times) but he's having very good fun with it now. I wonder if the cat will be able to do it (he is very keen on the dog's kibble)?

BiteyShark · 13/05/2017 11:30

JigglyTuff glad he likes it. DDog now carries his outside (he has perfected picking it up by the top) and rolls it on its side along the patio to get the most out in one go.

I have visions of your cat waiting for dog to do all the work whilst he hoovers the food up behind him Grin

JigglyTuff · 13/05/2017 11:32

Grin I can totally see that happening

BiteyShark · 14/05/2017 14:15

I feel so sorry for my dog today. We have done lots of training today and afterwards I gave him a massive chew as a treat. He's so tired from the training that he keeps looking at me to say he wants to eat it but is too tired to chew in between episodes where he crashes out asleep Grin

Cocobananas · 14/05/2017 14:57

Ha ha, have found a squeaky ball with a thick rubbery coating that Cocopup appears unable to destroy in five mins flat. It has an uneven bounce, a satisfying squeak and she loves it. After a short game of fetch she played with it by herself for ages. This one going in the treat cupboard to be saved for special use.

BiteyShark · 14/05/2017 15:10

Coco the kong airball squeaker is similar which bounces every which way and send dog crazy. He loves it Grin

JigglyTuff · 14/05/2017 16:55

I took the dog to the park and let him off the lead and he pretty much stayed with me Shock

He tore off for about 30 seconds and then came back and played games with me

This is a first

Cocobananas · 14/05/2017 21:27

Well done Jiggly dog! It really is about lots of layers of recall, we now have squeaky ball, wait and come, find it games, obedience training, self control i.e. Throw one ball and leave, throw other ball to chase.
Today we met two manic on leadJRT crosses on a quiet bridleway, got past and I let Cocopup off lead. She followed me and I quickly initiated a loud game of chase me( thank you bitey) which was great, think she is starting to believe I am the total business. Won't get complacent yet though 🦌

JigglyTuff · 15/05/2017 10:08

Yes, we are doing daily games - lots and lots of them - and they are really paying off.

MipMipMip · 16/05/2017 19:05

Anyone want a free miphound? Gone right of him today!

Started last night when he decided to wake me up to play by dropping a nylon bone on my face and giving me a fat lip. Today he kept going deaf. Lots of witnesses of course..... grrrrr!

BiteyShark · 16/05/2017 19:10

MipMipMip swop you for biteyHound who had just been put in timeout for trying to eat the garden bench followed by chewing big holes in his bed. He disgraced himself earlier by getting his own poo all over himself and then rolling around in some different poo before running off.
He is now sleeping looking like butter would not melt in his mouth.

They do try our patience. Wine and Cake for us all.

Cocobananas · 16/05/2017 20:25

Do you think it is the windy rainy weather after so much dry good weather recently? Cocopup behaved well on her walk this morning, but didn't settle well and was pestering for attention. I ignored her to get on with work and was rewarded with a roll in fox poo she found in the garden between the showers. Thick black streaks of it...so bath. Problem is , she seems to love baths unlike any other dog I have owned so I hope she doesn't think that poo is the way to go to get a warm bath!

BiteyShark · 16/05/2017 20:29

What is it with dogs and poo? He's either eating it or smearing himself with it.

It's handy your dog likes baths Coco. Mine is not keen but he tolerates it which I think is partly down to him going to the groomers every 6 weeks.

MipMipMip · 16/05/2017 21:27

Oh joy. Poo sounds bad. Good luck all!

Rain enhances smell so that drives them mad. And wind drives ALL animals mad. So basically we're all screwed for the next few days. Yay!

FoxesAreFabulous · 17/05/2017 10:57

Mip we went through a phase a couple of months ago now when I thought we might end up rehoming foxpup - his behaviour was awful and he seemed to have developed a real dislike of my mother, who dog-sits for us. She was threatening not to look after him any more and I really did think that might be it, but we worked with a behaviourist and pup is so much better now and my mother seems to like him again Grin.
I think with dogs of this age, we will all have days when we have just had enough - ours hasn't rolled in fox poo yet (quite surprising as we have foxes that use our back garden) but did try eating some pony poo in the New Forest recently - yuck yuck yuck!!! He also had bit of a problem with one of his own coming out the other morning - think he'd eaten a hair and that was causing it to dangle! - so decided to help it along with his teeth (boak!).
Agree about the weather - got home this morning after walk and foxpup went potty. Leapt on and off the sofas, rolled upside down on them snorting and snuffling and ran round the house like a demented furball! Roll on, sunny weather!!

MipMipMip · 17/05/2017 11:53

It be fair most of the time Miphound is very good. But when he gets it in his head to be naughty /deaf he does it well!

He is a bit older than most of the pups on here but he's part boxer so ages slower (well stays puppy longer). Also he was on lead walks for ages after injury so has had time to forget everything.

totallymortified · 17/05/2017 11:59

Ooh, can I join please! I have the most teenagery of Springer Spaniels at the moment. She is so stubborn! Currently sitting in the garden in the pouring rain and refusing to come in. Every few minutes she starts barking and then runs away from me. She's lovely but she's driving me up the wall right now!! I end up trying to get her in at 10 at night and she just digs her heels in. She's a very powerful dog and I can't move her. It's a real battle of wills!
Oh and she stinks of fox poo after a good roll this morning!

BiteyShark · 17/05/2017 12:07

totallymortified get shampoo specifically for fox poo :)

How old is your spaniel? Mine seems to be very puppyish today, ran round playing with his toys which he doesn't often do anymore. Fortunately he is at daycare today which will tire him out so I know tonight will be fine Grin
