Just wondering whether anyone else has got a puppy recently and in the same boat as us? Interested to hear how how others are getting on.

We've had our 8 week old puppy for a few days now and things are okay... he's a complete cross of lots of different breeds so enjoying trying to work out what in him!

House training seems to go great and then at night he just sits there in the middle of the grass not wanting to even walk around! Never mind wee!

Our older dog isn't particularly impressed but has been good with him so far. Just looking forward to him sleeping through the night without needing a wee. Completely forgot how having a puppy completely takes over your life for a little while!

Look at that face. Adorable Smile

I'm getting more excited than scared now which is good.

Actually more worried about getting through the next four days of work than getting the puppy.

Awww Nelson is gorgeous and I love his name!

Well, things are plodding along quite nicely here, hoping we've got a couple of months of normality before teenager troubles hit! Toilet training is sorted although still have the occaisional secret poo if we're not looking! He's great in walks, fine being left and has got over his fear of coats/my dad/smokers.

My front room remains a tip but you can't have everything can you!

Glad things are good Skeleton. Jealous of the puppy shopping, mine destroys most toys now with his adult teeth.

Up and down for me at the moment. He made me so proud in his gun dog training this week but has been a pain in the arse since (it's like he used all the good behaviour up in the training).

SkeletonSkins · 17/04/2017 19:01

I was wondering how you were getting on Bitey with your pre-teen pup. I definitely sense I have this all to come!!

Skeleton I saw you had got past the issue with your dad. They are funny creatures aren't they Grin. But it does sound like things are nicely settled with your pup (fingers crossed that lasts for a long time)

Talking of the house being a tip, I have a spare room that has turned into a dumping ground for all dog stuff and we seem to have a dogs bed in every room but the bathroom Hmm. I do look at some of the older dogs at training and yearn for the time when he is more mature but I wouldn't swop him for the world Grin

Wow lots of good news this week by the sounds of it!
Eddie had a busy day yesterday. Had visitors yesterday morning as aunt came over with her hubby and their dog (dotty is about 6 months old I think. A toy poodle) was funny to watch them chase each other around the garden but Eddie was very bitey with her which was a worry but they eventually calmed down a bit.
Then he had some time to chill before we took him to my parents as we went for dinner. Busy house as there was my parents, the four of us plus my sister and her other half and their son. He was such a good boy there. One wee on the doormat (as we were not watching him) everything else outside. Was very well. Heaved generally I think although nephew who is only 3 was petrified of him and convinced Eddie was trying to bite him. Hoping nephew gets over this pretty quick!

booboos I do at least 2 walks a day. His morning is off lead in the park for 15-20mins. Garden play at lunch. Afternoon is on lead round the high street getting used to noise, traffic and people, and loose lead walking training (this is also to help dull his little needle claws on the pavement) If garden play in the evening isn't enough he gets another little off lead 10-15 explore in the park/meadow

bigsnugglebunny · 18/04/2017 18:37

Hello! Checking in here - this is Bear, he's coming to live with us on 1st May. He's a golden retriever, and we are all very excited.

We've spent about 2 years planning and researching, as we've never had a puppy before - I had an adult dog but that's a whole different kettle of fish!

Now, after all that, I'm in a blind panic and it feels like we're having another baby never mind a puppy!

Omg bigsnuggle he is gorgeous. How old in that pic? Coz if it's only about 7 weeks he is gonna be so big! Grin

bigsnugglebunny · 18/04/2017 18:47

That's 6 weeks 5 days Grin

BiteyShark · 18/04/2017 18:50

Awww more cute pictures Grin

Funkymoover · 18/04/2017 19:03

Aw what a cutie!

SkeletonSkins · 18/04/2017 19:38

Omg Bear is absolutely gorgeous!! You're going to get stopped so much with him out and about Grin he's going to be great fun.

Funky I wouldn't worry about the biting thing with the other dog, puppies can be so boiterous in their play but they grow out of it. Do you have any friends with grown up sensible dogs? I found walking with friends with dogs like that has really helped my pup to realise biting isn't always appreciated!

We walk once in the morning, 15-20 min lead walk around the roads and once at night normally on the beach and probably a little too long but he enjoys himself. I really need to do a bit more training with him though or we're going to get kicked out of it upon class for not practicing!!

Bear is a cutie. Lots of fun times ahead Smile

I'm also a first time puppy owner. Begged for years as a child but never got one and then rented for ages until getting my own place recently. I found the decision on which breeder to go for and putting the deposit on pup the most stressful part. Now it's only a couple of days away I'm 90% excited and 10% apprehensive which is pretty good for me Grin

Puppy corner is all ready for the little guy.

Hello everyone! I was on the thread a while back but then we entered puppy week one and I just didn't get round to posting! So, here is our little chap - we've had him exactly a week today.

So far: so good... in fact I wonder if he's lulling us into a false sense of security. Toilet training was the thing I was most nervous about: I hated potty training kids! Luckily we were all at home AND the weather was brilliant, so we were able to just keep whisking him outside every 5 minutes.... So we've had a grand total of 5 wee accidents across the week and no poos: and I've just realised the last one was yesterday morning. I'm already getting a lot less vigilant which is probably dangerous!

I work from home and haven't much on this week, so I've had a lot of coffee breaks playing and sitting with a pup on my knee in the garden. Bliss! Next week when I have a fast turnaround project may be a bit more interesting...

Bluetongue: our pup has been going out in my old baby sling (a ring sling, not one of those front carry ones where you stick the babies legs through!) and that has been great. It keeps him held close to me, and means I have both arms free if I need to clung onto him. So far, there was only one slight wriggle: mostly he's so amazed and taking everything in that he sort of forgets to move! He does like a snuggle though!

Oh lovely photos of puppies!

Housetraining going well. We did last only a couple of weeks leaving him downstairs at night - his yelping was heartbreaking and would go on for hours 😫

Now he's in our room, but NOT on the bed, he's happy curled up next to the bed.

First Dog has been suffering though, I think stress from puppy has caused a rash. Trip to vets, £50, it's been a very expensive few weeks there. Pup ambushes and nips him frequently, and he tolerates it well enough but he's probably fed up. It doesn't help that when the puppy is playing he has to join in, dominate and they wind each other up.

Funkymoover · 19/04/2017 22:51

Aw man. Just when I think we are turning a corner Eddie likes to mix it up a bit. He was a right little bugger last night. Went up to bed as normal at about 10 and he started whining. Came down after 45 mins and took him out for a wee. Not much wee. Came back in. He continued to whine till 1.30 when I came back down and took him outside again. Cleaned up the poo on the floor. Left him to get back into bed. He whined a bit more but I went back to sleep but think he settled down at about 2 am. We have all been too tired to do much today! So much for getting him used to being on his own during the day! I'm off to bed shortly so just about to wake him up to go out for a wee. Hope he settles back down ok tonight

I took him for his first walk tonight. We went round the block took about 25 mins. Stopped to say hello to a dog in a garden round the corner (at a dog groomers!) and he stopped at every lamp post for a sniff. But he did really well. Hoping it helps him slee having had a little exercise

And Jesus Christ he has done some right stinky Parps tonight. It's almost made me gag 🤢

Night all
Xx

BiteyShark · 20/04/2017 06:45

Funky I can remember nights like that where he would not settle and I just got up when he whined or paced about, placed outside for few mins then back in crate and repeat several times during the night. Was bloody tiring but eventually he got the message to have a pee/poo or go to sleep. I am so grateful now to be able to sleep in peace for 7 hours Grin

Mine always seems to have a bit of a dodgy tummy with the crap he likes to eat (speciality is horse and cow poo) so smells are just part of the household here Sad.

Funkymoover · 20/04/2017 07:21

Snoozy dog. Was dozing from about 7pm till 10 as hubs was doing some diy and banging around. I took him out for a wee at 11 ish and came downstairs to no accidents at 5.45. He went for a wee and has been snoozing on me since then. Yay for sleep

bigsnugglebunny · 20/04/2017 17:11

I just can't until he's here - 1st May can't come soon enough! I am quite glad we've got some time to get organised though.
I need a puppy corner too bluetongue - yours looks ideal. I'm off to Jolleys tomorrow to get a cosy bed and some other bits.

Aww dottymum - that little face! Hello to your Bear! The name definitely suits Grin

BiteyShark · 20/04/2017 17:42

I bet we don't hear from the new puppy owners for a bit whilst they enjoy their doggie snuggles Grin

If anyone wants a second dog I have one going spare that decided to run off and circle a wild horse and ignore frantic recalling, then run off with some decomposing thing and refuse to come close in case I took it off him. Arghhh his recall used to be good but bloody hell he is trying my patience at the moment.

Thank god the wild horses here have seen it all and completely ignore him.

Funkymoover · 21/04/2017 09:15

Oh bitey that's like me with Eddie and the frog.
Eddie decided to try eating a snail last night 🤢
Apart from that I had a good boy yesterday. Had an hour or so on his own in the morning with no accidents and then a run around the garden with lots of kids for an hour after lunch. Then another hour or so on his own while I took kids out where I think he just slept

Took him for a walk after dinner (another 25 min walk round the block) met 2 friendly dogs (with friendly owners) and he slept really well last night again. Walking is the way forward 😉

BiteyShark · 21/04/2017 11:26

Funky yes it's so nice when they can burn their energy off on a walk and then spend the rest of the time sleeping. Mine also likes snails but I think they are all hiding from him as I haven't seen any more in the garden.

Unfortunately walking is getting more stressful for me. He is really powerful and fast and is going further and further away from me off lead. This used to be fine but he had started to eye up jumping over a stream which would mean he could go through a wire fence and be off [sobs]. I keep telling him if he doesn't settle down and listen he might be going in for his balls chopping sooner than he thinks Grin
