We bought a dog 8 months ago where we have tried to train him.... he doesn't listen he still nips and snaps and it's now getting to the point where he is jumping up and going for my toddler and you can hear his jaw snap ! It's scaring me as I can't leave them in the room together he does it to me and my bf he tries to bite his ankles and he's the master so it's in heard of isn't it ? He knows not to go on the couch yet still runs in covered in mud and going on there he's not allowed up stairs but as soon as back is turned he's up there.... we've always told him no and made sure he knows and he does get praised when he's good (which is never ) he chews everything up in site and will just take food of the side and out of my boys hand, I'm currently pregnant and it's getting me so anxious ! He goes on walks everyday so he's excersised a lot. He doesn't listen to me whatso ever and when I play with him he gets aggressive to the point it scares me. Any advice would be helpful ? No nastiness please I'm at by whits end

Bless you setter. I love them too!
Wink

YouHadMeAtCake · 06/02/2017 18:55

Exactly Wolfie Tea she would have received lots of very good advice.

She did actually receive advice from calmer PP than myself admittedly but she chose to ignore them too by bleating on like a broken record about how she hasn't taken him to training but has trained him herself, Despite knowing precisely nothing about dogs.

As for spiteful sukey I wasn't the one name calling. I will not apologize for being furious at the title and the attitude of a woman who is fucking a young dogs entire life up on a whim. I see it ALL the time.

I have a fridge i want to ''get rid of'' how can you say that about a life you chose to take on is beyond me. Like it is nothing.

I am actually one of the least spiteful and most caring for DC and animals you could ever meet but I cannot abide people that do this sort of thing.

OneWithTheForce · 06/02/2017 18:58

OP there is a difference between being wilfully neglectful and being neglectful out of ignorance which I think is what is happening in your case. We aren't born with the information we need to care for any animals. We have to learn it and unfortunately there is a lot of rubbish out there posing as advice. For someone who has the time and patience to take on and raise this dog he could be a dream companion, which is what every dog deserves to be. I don't think it's possible for you in your current situation to offer him what he needs. You have too much going on and your children rightly have priority to you. Maybe when your children are a bit older and don't demand so much of your time it will be a good time for you to get a dog. Right now just isn't the right time for your family or the dog to be together. It will make all of you miserable. Dog included.

Wolfiefan · 06/02/2017 19:01

I know she would have received good advice. I did. Even before I got my pup. And certainly since too!
This dog has taken over my life. Shock Evidence of separation anxiety!

Phew! You can't see how my "trained" hound has bitten a hole in my slippers! Grin

SouthPole · 06/02/2017 19:02

Many tears animal rescue are fantastic.

Unlike you.

YouHadMeAtCake · 06/02/2017 19:02

YouHadMeAtCake name calling a person is bad enough name calling a woman who is pregnant is cruel on the un-born child

What name calling would that be then Fluff ?

teaforbreakfast · 06/02/2017 19:03

Wolfie, my dog chewed one of the only decent shoes I had the morning of a Very Important Interview.

I was not thrilled.

I did not get the job!

FineLookingHighHorse · 06/02/2017 19:07

Ok I've got a twelve month old husky/Akita cross.
I also have five children, the youngest is nine weeks old.
My dog hasnt had any formal training either
She runs after other dogs and jumps up at visitors and people at the park.

Im just very fortunate that she isnt nippy, a growler or otherwise aggressive.

In every other aspect I've behaved exactly as the OP.

So come on, give me some shit I'm in the mood for it.

Give the OP a break. Shes hardly giving beelzebub a run for his money now is she?

YouHadMeAtCake · 06/02/2017 19:08

Aw Wolfie lovely photo. Oh no Tea sorry to hear that, maybe an even better job is waiting in the wings!

Many years ago one of my pups chewed the toes off of a brand new pair of very expensive shoes, chewed very accurately ,almost identically they became peep toe shoes Grin

teaforbreakfast · 06/02/2017 19:10

To be honest fine I think you are being really fucking irresponsible.

It's not a joke.

People have been killed by aggressive untrained dogs but in far more significant numbers, DOGS have been killed.

Both avoidable, both tragic.

GotToGetMyFingerOut · 06/02/2017 19:10

I'm absolutely disgusted at the way some of you are ripping apart this pregnant woman. No worse than playground bullies.

Op, I'd call a behaviourist tomorrow for advice.

LilCamper · 06/02/2017 19:13

OP join the group i suggested, you won't be judged.

Other people, this is an un trained, confused adolescent puppy.

teaforbreakfast · 06/02/2017 19:13

Maybe you'd be less disgusted with us and more disgusted at the OP if you had to walk away from a shelter crammed to bursting with ex fighting breeds, yelping and crying to be let out but left alone every night.

Come and call me a playground bully when you've seen a child permanently disfigured from a dog attack.

Come and see some of the homes staffs and Rottweilers are bred in - actually not bred in, just 'not bothered to be neutered in' and the money funding drugs and trafficking and all manners of the underbelly of human life.

Come and watch a squirming healthy puppy and know in five years that puppy will be dead because someone couldn't cope.

Then call us playground bullies.

KoolKoala07 · 06/02/2017 19:13

Oh my goodness. I get sick and tired of irresponsible people taking on a dog (or any pet for that matter) then when it's not doing what your expect it to, you just want to give it away! No wonder our animal shelters are overrun! When will people realise dogs are for life! Angry

Wolfiefan · 06/02/2017 19:15

Tea.
More fool you for leaving shoe near dog! Grin
Here is my wall to cheer you up!

Need to get rid of dog !
FineLookingHighHorse · 06/02/2017 19:16

Im interested to find out the exact reasons for my alleged irresponsibility

Could you have expand your comment tea ?

YouHadMeAtCake · 06/02/2017 19:20

Ditto (again!) to what tea said. You sound like you are proud of being an irresponsible dog owner Fine

My dog hasnt had any formal training either. She runs after other dogs and jumps up at visitors and people at the park

So come on, give me some shit I'm in the mood for it ... how lovely. Hmm

FineLookingHighHorse · 06/02/2017 19:29

I was unaware that formal training was a requirement of dog ownership.

Is that what counts as irresponsibility?

She jumps up at visitors.
Shes a young dog.

So whats the problem?

teaforbreakfast · 06/02/2017 19:31

Fine, letting a large breed leap up at people is anti social and rude and potentially dangerous but you DO know that.

FineLookingHighHorse · 06/02/2017 19:32

Oh and she runs after other dogs.
Shes playing.

Nowhere have I said that she is aggressive towards them.

Again, is this really a huge deal?

I thought it was standard pup behaviour.

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 06/02/2017 19:33

Evening all

YouHadMeAtCake · 06/02/2017 19:34

You missed out responsible dog ownership Fine It is one thing for your dog to jump at visitors to your home but quite another to do so at strangers in public and in parks. That is what will get you into trouble. It is about respecting your dog as well as other people.

You are clearly spoiling for a fight as you have mentioned, but you will have to look elsewhere.
