I presume you get a steady flow in of pups coming through, as in no need to rush when a lovely one arrives as more will come a long? Such a shame there are so many uncared for/wanted dogs around.

CMOTDibbler · 02/02/2017 20:41

It takes forever to get anywhere with the dogs anyway! We get stopped every 5 minutes to chat about ddog2, and we live in the sort of very small town where people talk in shops/the street etc anyway. The dogs have a set pattern in order to visit the shops where they get treats!

Numbers of pups goes up and down, but as an example, when ddog2 was born they had 22 pups born in rescue in those two weeks. And often they'll get a litter come in together so theres a few at once

Have both of yours been reserved / gone to new homes now OP ? , also can I ask do you get an opinion about whether a home is suitable for them or is that decision all taken by somebody else ? In the future we would be interested in fostering , not possible at present as our lovely dog would severely disapprove .

CMOTDibbler · 02/02/2017 21:24

Both reserved now Grin Ella will be going home on Saturday, hopefully not long after for Ethan.
Floral, its a three step (plus homecheck) process - the first is whether they are suitable to have a puppy with the lady who runs the rescue, then they speak to the fostering coordinator who knows a bit more about the pup, then I get to speak to them - and then they visit and you assess how they interact with the pup, how they feel about their good and bad points etc. Only then is the final decision made!

CMOT seriously how much exercise does that type of lurcher need? I'm seriously considering a lurcher over a greyhound but am concerned we wouldn't be able to give them enough exercise.

CMOTDibbler · 03/02/2017 10:55

I can only speak for my two, but their exercise needs are very low - couple of 10 minute walks a day would be OK, they prefer a 15 minute off lead zoomies to being on lead for longer. They like the social aspect of going out, so we go out for longer at the weekends but its not necessarily about the exercise, more the stimulation.

Obv, you'd want to avoid a lurcher with collie in the mix if you want lower exercise needs!

So exciting Hounds First have just called me and are going to arrange a home visit! Time to get the fence mended out the back!

Have you actually seen a dog you like at Hounds First flippety ?

Flippetydip · 03/02/2017 11:21

I haven't really looked in earnest to be honest. I just want someone to come out a look and see if our house and our lifestyle are suitable for that sort of dog. That said

.......

Or houndsfirst.co.uk/personnel/robin/

Anyway, I mustn't start looking...... It'll end in tears.
