One word which describes your rescue dog ?

Please could you help my dd is doing a school project? Quite often, getting a rescue dog, is all about what we are giving to the rescue. She would like to know ( in one or two words), what the rescue dog has given /brought to you & the family, it can be positive or negative.

Humour

Mine was patience and now six years later unconditional love :0)

Soothing presence.

I have three :)

One is pride (she almost died and I nursed her)
One is fun
One is love although they all bring that really :)

Stupidity.

Everything he does is an issue for him. He can't have a wee without covering himself with it. If he jumps up something he can't land on his feet and always ends up on his arse, he can't find toys you have thrown or food he just runs around looking for it but never actually manages to find it, he runs after you while still squatting for a pooh (hilarious) he hasn't worked out how to get up or down stairs or steps and he still hasn't realised that running off into the distance with a long lead still on means his sprint is about to end abruptly when he gets to the end of the line. He also cries at our other dog when he has his food. They both get a bowl each but more often than not he will not realise his bowl has been placed next to him so he cries thinking we left him out. The vets have checked him over for eyesight problems etc but he has just come back 'not very clever'.

He is beyond daft but we love him just the way he is

Ddog1 - love. Utter, utter, love. He is the nicest dog you could ever meet, and his ideal job would be in a nursing home, but tiny children adore him even though he's a big dog

Ddog2 - lots of conversation! We are stopped all the time by people who want to talk about him

Our rescue dog has been with us five weeks, we also have a nearly seven year old who has been with us since a puppy. For me the biggest thing at the moment is pride. I am proud of her because she is six and has never been a pet before and she has settled in beautifully. I am also proud of my family for all opening up their hearts to a scruffy and smelly dog not a cute squishy puppy and making her feel safe and loved. We are very lucky that we found each other.

Adoration

On both sides - we adore him and he adores us - I think he had such an abysmal start to life he can't actually believe that this is his life now. It hasn't been easy as he was challenging in many ways - un-housetrained, unsocialised, a thief (as he had been starved) but after nearly a decade he is a joy to have in our lives.

Currently having an afternoon sofa snuggle with my little rescue and there is no where I would rather be.

A wee sook. She's basically a big softy who cuddles up to me on the couch looking for attention and fuss! We got her in the middle of July and she's settled in so well. We've taught her how to ask to get up on the couch (she puts a paw on it) and she's been such a quick learner. I really think we were lucky with her, she's lovely and gentle.

All of the above. Well except stupidity, she's extremely clever whilst also being stubborn.

My one word would be: Contentment. 100% and it goes both ways. I got her during a tough time in my life and I wouldn't be without her. Makes every day brighter.

I can't possibly describe her in one word, apart from perfect. Or possibly life-changing. Or just 'everything'. She's the best decision is ever made.

Cuddles. The rescue Centre said that cuddles was her middle name and she's the friendliest, snuggliest dog which just about makes up for her mischief!

Perfection

Contentment.

We rescued her at the beginning of this year, she is roughly 6 and had a horrible life. Starved, beaten, neglected, locked away and chained outside.

She didn't know what to do with treats or toys and didn't know how to trust.

She knows all of the above now and has really come out of her shell, she dances with happiness when she sees me even if I'm only coming back from the toilet

I was having a really bad time when I met her and decided to take her on, it's like we found each other.

She does stink though

Endless love and affection

The word I'd use to describe ours is 'needy'. He's a Staffy, had been through a rough time and as a result has quite severe separation anxiety. However, he has come a long way in the 14 months we've had him and apart from that, he is wonderful. He adores us, has so much love to give and is happiest when surrounded by our children.

Fate

We had been talking about getting a dog but kept disagreeing about breeds. Then I saw his photo on Facebook. He had been found abandoned at a train station in Romania. Everyone told us we were mad as we wouldn't get the chance to meet him. We didn't know anything about him.
From the day he arrived, he has been an absolute joy. He had to be toilet trained but took everything in his stride. He approaches every new thing with courage and humour. We've had him for 4 fantastic months and we wouldn't be without him.
I am so delighted that I saw his photo on Facebook, it was definitely fate!

Tidiness !

No food is ever left out anywhere now , because when you have a very tall greyhound who is also a contortion artist , nowhere is out of reach . Even the fridge now has to be d locked shut because one of them has learned to hook a paw through the handle .

Oh and wonder . Watching the two hounds in full flight - well . We've had passing traffic stop to watch them running .

The question is often asked - Who rescued who?

All our rescue hounds have brought us joy, contentment, happiness and love.

Also utterly heartrending grief when they leave us too soon as they must.

I agree about the wonder - the awe I feel when I watch sighthounds run flat out is still immense after all these years.

But basically you can distill it down to love.
