Please could you help my dd is doing a school project? Quite often, getting a rescue dog, is all about what we are giving to the rescue. She would like to know ( in one or two words), what the rescue dog has given /brought to you & the family, it can be positive or negative.

Lovely daft idiot!

He's elderly and blind and makes a lot of grumpy old man noises while disdaining my company. He quite often bashes into things because in his head he's a puppy, then he has to come and rub his face better on my slippers or DH's shins. He has also made us laugh a lot tonight because there was some duck on the kitchen surface and he was going mad sniffing around trying to find it but he's a JRT and couldn't possibly reach if he tried. He's the best thing I ever snuck into the house Grin

Love and calm :)

He's a reacued ex racing greyhound and is the most chilled, calm dog I've ever known in my life

Cuddlebug

If you're not cuddling her she'll get in your face and cuddle you and force you into cuddling her. All 23kgs of her will then land in your lap to be held like a baby for a belly rub. If you dare stop she sits up and puts her face in yours and gets huffy then the process starts again...

I asked my 5yo dd. She said licky! And furry, and strokey, and my best friend.

I'd described her as soppy. We all love her dearly, but she is especially fond of dd. They curl up and watch tv and dog sleeps on the end of her bed.

Dd is and will always be an only child, so the dog is a great companion for her.

Aah - those pictures are lovely.

shockingsocks · 29/10/2016 09:50

there's a massive feel-good factor too. You remember the physical and mental state of them when they came into your home and now they're pushing you off the sofa and demanding that you open the treat tin. Can't beat it.

angiekk · 29/10/2016 11:25

This is Bolt, she was a complete nightmare at the beginning. I always thought myself to be very patient, but she tested me waaaaayyyy beyond any limits. Roll forward a few years and she is the best dog ever !

YY to the feel-good factor. My Jessie was scared and emaciated when she came to us. She had been picked up off the street. Now she is a happy, playing bundle.

ReallyShouldKnowBetterAtMyAge · 29/10/2016 13:55

Ours was also a street dog. She spent the first few weeks sleeping in a crate covered in a duvet in the kitchen. I think it was the first time in her life that she had some where safe, warm and quiet to sleep Sad

Vetsandpets · 29/10/2016 14:01

Ddog1 (greyhound) - chilled
Ddog2 (staffie x) - joy

CharminglyGawky · 29/10/2016 14:18

Cuddly, fun, adoration.

We accidentally adopted the perfect dog Grin We went to look at a puppy but came home with a 5yr old mutt. She was already trained, house broken and we had her undying love from about day 2 after adoption! She just fitted right in and has been absolutely no trouble which was a surprise as we are both newbie dog owners. She loves a run (and is probably at least part whippet and has the speed to match) but equally will spends hours on end just snoozing and is very undemanding. Her happiest place is wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa touching both of us. She is as soppy as they come and even if she has hurt herself she would never hurt us.

She also sleep howls at least twice a day. It is the cutest thing ever!

StandardPoodle · 01/11/2016 18:03

Love
Loyalty
Laughter
Achievement as she lost her bad habits (lunging at people/dogs), managed to walk past a wheelie bin without panicking, stopped pulling on the lead, managed to sit to have her lead put on rather than bouncing like an idiot.
She's a dog in a million.

OhBollocksFuck · 01/11/2016 18:10

Boss

I got her seven months ago. She was an un-house trained nervous wreck. She'd do anything to please you for fear of being hit if she didn't (we think). If there was a loud and unexpected noise, she'd peg it to the far end of the garden and sit shaking.
Now though she's nearly full house trained (still wees over night) and hardly nervous at all. She knows exactly what she wants to do, how she wants to do it and when and she has no qualms at all about letting us know. Her favourite method of letting us know is whining a bit then launching herself at the nearest part of your body snapping her teeth. If you suggest something she doesn't want to do, she will not do it. Now if there's an unexpected noise, she's first on the scene to investigate if it might be food.

She's the total boss of our house. She's a star.

My rescue dog is a gent. He is gentle, well-behaved. affectionate. He was given a second chance and had given far more in return.
