Does your dog attract attention?

We're on holiday with the mini hound this week and I can't believe how much attention he has attracted. We keep getting mobbed by kids and adults who all want to stroke him and ask about him. It's lovely and we do get into conversation with all kinds of people, but sometimes it's a bit much when you just want to sit and relax. I'm also a bit Hmm when people pick him up without asking, or give him kisses!

He is quite distinctive, he's a chi X jrt and really tiny, but I'm still surprised how interested people are. Luckily he loves the attention, but he is now getting into the habit of trying to happily approach and greet everyone he sees, because he's used to strangers calling him over and making a fuss.

We have never had this with our other dogs in the past, just wondered if anyone else has this experience?

Yes as my boy is assistance dog he is in lot places that you don't expect to see a dog

Do get fed up of amount of looks or people mutter under breath when I ask them not to touch or distract him

(when not working no coat on I don't mind long as ask me first

Border terrier here who still looks very much like a 6 month old puppy even though she's fully grown at 13 months, cause she's little, very playful and affectionate people think she's still a young pup. Always gets attention wherever we go, we love her and she's a great addition to our family.

Yes we have a very pretty cocker spaniel who attracts a lot of attention however he's not particularly keen on strangers - especially children and other dogs so we tend to keep our distance. He's not a biter or anything but I don't trust him entirely.

Yes! Ddog is a rare breed (Toller) and people are always asking what he's crossed with ... Partly because he's gorgeous (I'm biased) but also because he almost always has a happy smile on his face he constantly gets people cooing over him. The result is a dog who's the biggest flirt in the world Hmm

Noirsnot I love Tollers, I've met quite a few and they were all happy, bouncy dogs. Def not the sort you could wear white trousers around!

Ddog used to get loads of fuss when he was a cute little puppy...now people tend to cross to the other side of the road when they see himGrin

Yes I have a chihuahua cross jrt and people love to come over and stroke him especially kids. He is cute though and looks like a little fox and while I don't mind people stopping but at least ask before you start hugging my dog lol.
I am always amazed at how many parents let their kids approach and stoke and kiss my dog without asking it's lucky he likes kids and is used to being handled by them.
Only once I've actually had some one just pick him up when he was about 12 weeks old some 8 year old and when I asked what she thought she was doing and to put him down before she hurt him ( she picked him up with just her hands under his front legs and he yelped) her parents had a go at me for upsetting their precious princess because she wanted to hold my puppy.

My jrt/chi gets a lot of attention I have learnt to not make eye contact and keep moving or we don't get anywhere. He's fifteen months now so he's a reasonable size but as a small puppy he was outrageously cute. He also spends a lot of time on his hind legs he seems to think he's a meercat which small children adore but I try to discourage. He only weighs 3.5 kilos so I pick him up a lot but so far I haven't had complete strangers pick him up I think I would be a bit cross if they did he's my baby. My neighbour does pick him up and she lets him lick her face excessively despite me asking her not too so if we see her I pick him up straight away to head her off.

Ah, yes.
Our Max was always fussed over & was always okay with it until his older years.

He was a fabulous dog, very attractive and always well groomed so people made such a fuss over how soft & hairy he was!

These pictures are the day we took him to the vet for the last time!

Alisvolatpropiis · 11/06/2016 20:20

Max was an absolutely gorgeous boy. Sheltie?

NedStarksHead · 11/06/2016 20:39

He was actually a Rough Collie just a very very small boy.
He was the runt of his litter and that's why we picked him!

MidniteScribbler · 12/06/2016 09:51

I get a lot of attention when walking all of mine (6 of them!) as they're all a rare breed, and people realise that they're not a cross, and must be a particular breed so often ask about them. That, and if they're all running off lead, people wonder why they are all obedient (it's called training!).
