Ddog1 ate both of DS's Easter eggs yesterday, he isn't supposed to go upstairs, but did and into DS's room and ate the eggs, which were within reach. I was at work, only DS in the house, but no-ones fault.

2 Christmas ago, a selection box. Entirely my fault, I hadn't cleared up the living room after present opening and was distracted cooking for a big number of people.

A Macdonald's that had been discarded by some moron at a local park. Ditto a packet of skittles.

Not even a loose poo this morning. No affect at all. Any of it.

Thankfully..........

Has anyone else got a dog like this? He's a Springer btw.

Needastrongone - we thought he had some kind of neurological thing going on - back legs went, eyes rolling, shaking. Luckily the vet figured out what it was.

poorbuthappy · 01/04/2016 20:10

I have a half springer and she eats everything apart from raw mushrooms.

She's eating boxes of quality street wrappers and all.

She has a cast iron stomach and for that I am truly grateful. I also realise she is the exception to the rule.

I am mostly a responsible owner I promise but she scavengers like nothing else on this earth and she very very clever.

needastrongone · 01/04/2016 20:13

Same for the Springer my friend owns sleb, it took the vet a while to work it out but they eventually did thankfully.

There's a lot of spaniels involved in these escapades...

On the plus side, he once dropped a baby rabbit for half a dried distinctly unappetising old dog biscuit, which was the only thing I had left in my pocket at the time Smile

When our dog did this we were advised to take them to the vet even if they weren't showing any signs of being ill because it can cause damage you can't see. But it was green and blacks dark 70% chocolate she choose!!!!

Dieu · 01/04/2016 20:20

My Shih Tzu (10 months) ate half an Easter egg. We thought we'd left it up high enough Blush. Mind you, for a small breed, he's a solid wee chunk and remarkably heathy and hardy. There was absolutely no ill effect.

SistersOfPercy · 02/04/2016 23:18

My friends dog (small breed) got into the Christmas cake fruit she'd bought to make her cakes a couple of years ago. Sadly he didn't survive.
I'm fortunate that mine isn't really a scoffer. If I do drop anything like onion or chocolate he'll not bother with it. He's had his own dog choc easter egg this year though.

SunsofAlanKey · 03/04/2016 14:55

My childhood doe, a King Charles cavalier once ate an entire pack of Bourbon biscuits, think 48 not 24 in a packet. Then started on the jam tarts but was so full he just licked the jam out of the middle. He was fine, not even a loose poo. Another time he ate all my chocolate money, in the foil and the net bag. We only discovered this when we had to pull the net bag from his bum. Still no ill-effects. He had the sturdiest of constitutions.

My present dog has only to look at any food that is not his set dog food to get an upset stomach. He is kept far away from grapes, raisins and chocolate.

RoseDog · 03/04/2016 14:59

My large staffy can eat chocolate, grapes, raisins without it having any effect...give her a good quality dog food and you are in big trouble though!

RhodaBull · 03/04/2016 15:04

I was really cross with ds last week as he had a few friends round, left the sitting room unattended and the next thing was I spotted two empty tubs of dip in the dog's bed and the remains of a packet of chocolate chip cookies. Ds confessed that the dips had been full, and even worse one was spicy jalapeno.

I was expecting to have to get up five times in the night - but dog was fine, and regular as ever the next morning!

The only time dog has been really ill was when he ate a whole roll of Christmas wrapping paper, tube and all.

stealthbanana · 03/04/2016 15:07

One of our childhood dogs, a cocker, ate an entire bowl of those liqueur chocs that are individually wrapped to look like different types of booze bottles it was the 80s, don't judge on Christmas Eve whilst we were at church. They were left in the middle of a table and she managed to jump onto the table itself and eat the lot, foil and all.

Cue a very funny Christmas Day spent with the dog bouncing off walls and being unable to walk in a straight line. She was fine, though - think she just did an almighty poo and that was the end of it.

Bag of rice - didn't the Japanese do that to torture PoWs in WWII? Shock Dogs are hardcore!

Niknack · 03/04/2016 16:52

Christmas time years ago I came home from work to find that the corgi had sniffed out, unwrapped 2 selection boxes and ate them.
It was long before it was common knowledge about chocolate being poisonous . She was luckily fine and lived to the grand old age of 18

HealthyElf · 03/04/2016 17:07

The fat slab that I had just put out for the birds fell out of its holder.
The dog ate it!
She had a huge belly and stank to high heaven for a couple of days but then passed it.
All fine in the end but I won't be using them again.

TheCrowFromBelow · 03/04/2016 18:10

DDog had an emetic and an overnight stay when he got hold of a full tub of cocoa powder and polished off the lot.

Years ago my old dog ate a whole catering size (fucking huge) pan of chilli. There was one solitary kidney bean left, and thats because it had got wedged under the kitchen unit.

The result was two of the biggest piles of dog shit I have ever seen. In my bedroom, overnight. Nasty.

DramaAlpaca · 03/04/2016 22:38

Another chocolate stealing springer here.

DS once got a beautiful chocolate car for his birthday, I think he was 7 or so. He left it on the floor and our springer gobbled it up. DS was really upset but I was more worried about the dog. Thankfully she was fine and lived to a good old age.

sandgrown · 03/04/2016 22:49

Some years, ago our Jack Russell ate six Easter Eggs just leaving the boxes and foil. Lived to a ripe old age too.

puffylovett · 04/04/2016 13:07

Must be a spaniel thing, my pops ate lots of chocolate over the years - also had a particular affinity for giant toblerones! We had a couple of days of watching her carefully, where she drank loads but was otherwise absolutely fine.
She also was a dreadful scavenger, a loaf of bread once cost us several hundred pounds in emergency vet fees Hmm

DramaAlpaca · 04/04/2016 14:38

YY to spaniels being scavengers. Another one of ours, not the chocolate thief above but her very naughty rescue dog companion, came home once with a whole roast chicken in her jaws. I didn't dare ask around the neighbours Blush

She also managed to fish an enormous carp out of the pond and brought it into the house, looking extremely pleased with herself. I couldn't believe my eyes. I can only hope the poor thing was already dead and floating on top of the water and that's how she managed to catch it.

needastrongone · 04/04/2016 21:24

I am [shocked] at the entire pan of chilli. OMG in the bedroom too, poor you Toria.
