Awwwwww squish! This is too lovely. Updates must be had regularly and with pics!!

Very envious.

Chillycamper · 26/04/2015 17:22

Ooh lovely. Sounds like superhuman/dog pee holding power, unless he's not drinking much?

Is he catching the sticks and bringing them back to you?

The chillywhippets are still trying to work out the bringing back of balls, sticks and thier favourite frisbee. They get distracted by shaking them LOL

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/04/2015 20:10

Has he had a wee yet?

PacificDogwood · 26/04/2015 20:23

Yes, one ginormous piddle in the garden, then a poo later out on a walk - good boy! Grin

I think the poor dog needs therapy: he thinks he's a retriever.
We took him to a fenced in ball park, nobody around, and off lead he ran after balls that DS1 kicked for him for about an hour, bringing them back!

He had his dinner a little while ago and is now lying sleeping next to me.
He whines when I leave the room - I think we're in for a loooooong night tbh.

His crate is set up, but he's not really settled in it yet (he'll go in to retrieve a treat or a ball, but not to nap), preferring lying next to me on the foot mat HmmGrin

TooOldForGlitter · 26/04/2015 20:41

He sounds lovely, glad to hear he's starting to settle a bit. And he's retrieving too, ideal! Just teach him slippers/wine/bubble bath and you're away Grin

TheoriginalLEM · 26/04/2015 20:47

oh, he is just lovely isn't he - i love greyhounds

SouthBySouthWest · 27/04/2015 14:13

Congratulations! What a lovely boy Grin How was his first night?

PacificDogwood · 27/04/2015 20:32

Well.
The first night was Not So Good. Just like having a new baby again Hmm
Diarrhoea on a rug.

Having said that , he's still gorgeous and sweet and nervous and v needy (follows me everywhere).
The post-adoption support is great and we've got a plan for tonight - I am so NOT sleeping on the kitchen floor again!

OP posts:
CMOTDibbler · 27/04/2015 20:47

Well, its been a big change for him, so crying and poonami is to be expected.

My two lurchies love squeaky balls (Kong are favoured) and retrieve. Dpuppy loves a stick which deeply confuses ddog

PacificDogwood · 27/04/2015 20:57

Yes, he's been through rather a lot in a mere 2 weeks: relinquished by trainer, in vet kennels, bits lobbed off/microchipped/vaccinated, moved to foster home and now to us - poor wee guy!

His farts are toxic btw Shock

OP posts:
BoreOfWhabylon · 27/04/2015 21:02

We need PICTURES!

(Not of farting, obvs)

PacificDogwood · 27/04/2015 21:06

I post pictures, I will, honest, but don't have many photos of him yet and cannot find my cable to connect my phone to the laptop Blush

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/04/2015 21:07

Ah. Techystuff. I feel your pain Sad

PacificDogwood · 27/04/2015 21:18

Yes, techystuff
Nothing at all to do with the fact that we have still not recovered from having been on holiday and then had my parents stay and then Got A Dog. No chaos here at all, oh no siree.

OP posts:
BoreOfWhabylon · 27/04/2015 21:28

Look on the bright side, much better to have a giant dog farting and shitting everywhere now, when all is already in disarray Grin

SouthBySouthWest · 27/04/2015 21:41

Sounds like you have had a few things to think about. Hope tonight is less chaotic.

I'm sure he will settle in a few days. He's had so much going on he probably is still trying to figure out which way is up!

Really hoping we can get him and Argo together for a play date. Think it would do them both a lot of good. Argo is definitely in need of some off lead fun. I'm sure Luggie will be too.

PacificDogwood · 27/04/2015 21:45

Tonight we shall be doing Controlled Crying Howling - as advised by the post-adoption support woman.
Wish me luck!
I do need more than 3 hours sleep tbh….

South, yes, we will most certainly get together - I'll be in touch. Smile

OP posts:
SouthBySouthWest · 27/04/2015 22:23

Is he in your bedroom or elsewhere? We went straight to having Argo in our bedroom with us and he's slept really well (although his foster family said he was a good sleeper).

Gosh, it's just like having another baby. Figuring out what will get you the most sleep ;)

Looking forward to Saturday walk, and hoping we can do a dog park zoomie session soon too.

Enjoy your new hound!

PacificDogwood · 28/04/2015 17:10

A MUCH better night was had here - I think a blanket over the crate made him feel less insecure and there was not a peep out of him all night.

He's not in our bedroom and in fact we're trying to keep upstairs as dog-free zone as we do have some minor asthma issues.

Ok, amy advice on dog insurance?
I am confused by what's on offer and what/who to chose Confused
More squeaky toys and coats are on order - have I got my priorities right or what?! HmmGrin

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 30/04/2015 21:41

He is settling in nicely Smile

DS2 kicked a football for him so much today and he chased it at such high speeds that I eventually got worried his heart would no longer take it! Shock
He was running and retrieving and running and running…. unbelievable! I got a wee bit worried when his panting got really, really fast and enforced a break (we had to hide the ball in a plastic bag).
We walked home eventually and he's kind of slept/snoozed since. Oh, and farted… Hmm

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/05/2015 01:25
Grin

Does he feel like your Forever Dog yet?

And how is the camera techystuff coming on? Not that I'm impatient to see a retrieving greyhound in action. Oh no.

PacificDogwood · 03/05/2015 22:34

No pictures of running/retrieving dog yet, so I thought I'd treat you to a lovely Scottish landscape Grin. You're all v welcome

I've come to realise that I am so crap at taking photos of him because I cannot manage lead and treats and poo bags and DSs AND phone/camera - I think I need more hands!

He's a great dog. And yes, clearly our forever dog Smile

The crate he's come with is great - I've never crated a dog before and I'd not say that he loves his crate but he goes in willingly enough with a little cheese cube bribe. I find it really relaxing to know where he is and that he cannot get up to anything during the night.
There's still some whining in the evenings when we go to bed, but then he sleeps until 7am (8am this morning!).

House training is going well, no accidents since day 2 - again, I think the crate helps with that.
He continues to impress me with his bladder capacity and continence - last pee today was at 1pm. I had him out for a walk @ 8pm, he did a poo, but no No1 Confused. He lying asleep next to me. I know he'll do when now when I make him go in the garden, and it will be a waterfall, but still!! Weird hound.

Need to sort out insurance Confused

There will never be another Monty… but now there is Logan!!

gailforce1 · 04/05/2015 17:51

A beautiful landscape to walk your even more beautiful dog in!
So pleased for you that he is settling in. Is he still a novelty for your DSs?

PacificDogwood · 04/05/2015 21:27

DSs are really good with him.
Although he tried to play-nibble DS4(5)'s fur-clad and adorable bottom this morning (Gruffalo onesie Grin) and he was Not Happy Grin

You know, all that stuff about always supervising children and dogs? Which I agree with, but don't think is enough? Well, it is not:
Next door's little girl (7) came over to play, I helped her introduce herself to Luggie, she let him sniff her hand, gave him a tickle under his chin, told me about her grandpa's late dog - all hunky-dory. Next thing I know, she's on all fours, trying to crawl under his belly which did not actually phase him particularly, but he walked off and she ended up with a foot in her face which hurt her nose!
Shock
Not in a million years would I have anticipated a child doing that (crawling between a large dogs legs - and a large dog they've only just met) or that mechanism of injury.

There's not a mark on her and she's fine, but I am sorry she ended up distressed after meeting him for the first time.
I have no idea who to prevent the un-anticipatble in future Confused

Still have not decided on insurance.
If the agree to cover a certain amount of vet fees 'every 12 months' as long as you renew, is that the same as life-cover??

And how much is reasonable to spend on a Very Nice Dog Tag? Grin

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 09/05/2015 11:07

Just took him to the vet to be weighed - he was rather reluctant to enter, but a cube of cheese did the trick.
He's the exact same weight as he was when he was relinquished to the rescue Confused which suggests to me that he must have lost weight before coming to us because he has certainly found his appetite.
He's getting more dry dog food than suggested for his weight + added pasta + treats + 1 chicken wing/day + one egg/sardines once a week and he is wolfing it all down now after initial reluctance.
His pin bones look less sharp and he is full of beans.

On our walk to the vet I let him off lead (woodland park) and he ran after and retrieved one of those soft frisbee things AND caught it out of midair once Grin
Great fun dog. With decent recall Shock[in love]

What I need is advice on an indestructible dog toy suitable for throwing that makes a squeaky noise...
