For your kind remarks, you are getting another photo, TooOld Wink
Ok, I shall have to brave the smell of gently heating liver, won't I? Something to look forward to….

He was stressed, no doubt about it.
Equally, I think it's really hard to convey how the whole meeting went (namely well) with a few photos which just freeze a split second.

Oh god the smell is awful. Just awful. But, you can do a big batch and freeze what you don't need so it's a short term stink! To think I was vegetarian for 25 years...

He looks just like my boy when we adopted him. Skin and bones. He now leaps out of his bed at the hint of an opened tin. Never mind that it's my beans!

TooOldForGlitter · 23/04/2015 23:29

Photos convey very little. If I posted the pics of us getting our boy I think the RSPCA would've called social services for me. He hated my DD. Indeed he bit her....I have a thread on here about it. It was my fault. He quite literally worships the ground she walks on now...18 months later!

TheCunnyFunt · 24/04/2015 09:24

Aw he's lovely :)
Here's the doggy crack Liver cake recipe
And for getting weight on him quickly you could try
Satin balls
Quarter of a large bag of porridge oats
Tin of evaporated milk
Chicken/turkey mince
Full fat cream cheese
1 large egg/2 medium eggs

Mix the oats and the E. Milk (a washing up bowl is a good size bowl to use) and leave them to soak for a short while, have a cup of tea or something, mix everything else in and put in the fridge to set.

I find an ice cream scoop is good for portioning it up.

Buttholelane off subject, but thought of you when I saw this!

Two more sleeps! Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/04/2015 13:31

Once he's settled in, would you consider fostering other greyhounds, from the track? Teach them good manners and set them off on their long term path, like you did with Monty?
Because you know, if you can see the floor, there's room for one more, an' all that Wink

PacificDogwood · 24/04/2015 15:26

TooOld, thank you for the recipe and the photo - he looks like he has landed on his feet with you Smile

Bagel, that lane does not really exists, does it?? Shock
Imagine putting that on every application form…

70, yes, the plan is to foster again, but maybe allow our own hound to fully settle first. Logan has been marked on the website as 'reserve' - yeah! Grin
His current fosterer is a serial fosterer, one dog after another gets housetrained and taught some house manners. The couple have very big hearts IMO - they know they cannot really commit to a long-term dog, but can give love for a few weeks/months at a time. As this rescue fosters every dog before they rehome, they rely on foster homes to clear space in their vet kennels to get new dogs in from the track. So, yes, it was so rewarding to see how much Monty changed in 3 weeks that I am very much planning on fostering again.

Any idea how to teach the dog that the GP are not lunch?! ConfusedHmm

Any idea how to teach the dog that the GP are not lunch

Just to clarify, this is the Guinea-Pigs, not your Doctor or the Grandparents Grin

I have no clues, but I suppose if you allow him to nosy at them while they are safely caged with hidey spaces, he'll get used to them. But the smell of little furry prey animals and the fact they move (I would say run, but we know that isn't true with guineas) he'll always be prey driven, though the level varies from one dog to another.

They manage the cat acceptance the same way, gradual interaction until he gets bored/accepts but never 100% trusted (espcially with Random Other Animals outside)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/04/2015 16:01

He is amazing BTW , like Slinky Malinky ( I know SM is a cat but he looks almost feline with those legs and neck)

PacificDogwood · 24/04/2015 16:08

Em, yes, you're right, it's the boars, not anybody else Grin

And I would never trust any dog with any small furry, but we'll see just exactly how vigilant we'll have to be.
Hopefully, we'll get an idea how prey-driven Logan is before he decides they are lunch Grin

Do they not say that greys are the most cat-like of dogs?
He could do with being a bit more filled-in, but liver cake will soon see to that!

Love it!

This one cracks me up also

If the thread has now derailed onto funny road names, may I direct your attention to Fanny Hands Lane in Ludford, Lincolnshire? We drive past it occasionally and it always makes me laugh :o

Chillycamper · 24/04/2015 18:15

Hi pacific
Great news. Am really excited for you.
Well a playful grey sounds like he will make the perfect family pet once he has time to settle.

Sighthound ears are so mobile and expressive. They can mean all sorts of things.

Some ears back pics - First pic chillywhippet girl is interested in me and iPad, second pic they are chilling and third pic chillyboywhippet may be stressed by having an earful of fox poo but he usually loves it!

Sorry to derail again but there was this one too ... both from this link

BagelwithButter · 24/04/2015 18:26

And, of course, congratulations to you Pacific on the lovely Logan (great name too). I followed your Monty thread so it's lovely to see this new one

Letsgoforawalk · 24/04/2015 21:28

Most towns have got a lane or alley or road that was historically the place where certain services could be obtained cheap. In the Middle Ages people were not squeamish about naming a road after its common trade quite accurately. Some places have had their name changed to something less anatomical in the intervening centuries, minge lane and butthole lane possibly have not!
Grin

PacificDogwood · 24/04/2015 22:07

In spite of my outrage at the lowering of tone here , I thank you muchly for the link, Bagel - I always knew I lived in a weird place, but that link just confirmed it Grin

I've sat on my hands and have NOT yet ordered the outrageously expensive dog bed I covet….

OP posts:
BagelwithButter · 24/04/2015 22:17

You can always count on me to lower the tone Grin Now we need a photo of the dog bed... does it come with a butler and silver tray?

PacificDogwood · 24/04/2015 22:24

Almost…. Blush

I fancy the blue stars. AND a spare cover, natch.
Or an Orvis bed

I loved Letsgoforawalk's explanation for the dodgy road names - I wonder what our street would've been called? "Vomiting on the way home Lane" (popular thoroughfare/short-cut between a few pubs and a larger residential area. Windsor it aint HmmGrin

HermioneGrangerHair · 25/04/2015 18:53

That's an incredible looking dog, OP! I hope you have a very happy time with him.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/04/2015 21:42

Good Luck for tomorrow Pacific , have you been ogling collars and coats as well?

You do realise if you spend the thick end of £110 on his bed, he'll sleep on a manky old bit of carpet with your DHs old anorak on it, totally ignore his plush boudoir Grin

You'll have ample opportunity to find all the rude street names while you walk your new boy .

Surely "Butthole Lane" would be pronounced "Buth~olay" or something? (Hopes not though )

gailforce1 · 26/04/2015 10:16

Good Luck today Pacific. Will be waiting for your updates!

basildonbond · 26/04/2015 14:56

Have you got him yet?? Hope it's all going well

Just to add, ears back doesn't always = stressed dog - my dog (not a sight hound) flattens his ears to his head and goes all wiggly and silly when he's exceptionally pleased to see one of us - 'tis v cute

PacificDogwood · 26/04/2015 15:09

Got him home this morning! Grin

He's asleep on the sunny spot in the kitchen just now with DH snoozing next to him on his comfy chair

It would appear that he does not know he is a greyhound - nobody seems to have told him what grey do and don't do: he is not v interested in food, he retrieves sticks, he does not wish to run and he is unbothered by other dogs. He does however lurve a squeaky toy.
I've never trained a dog who responded to rewards with toys. The learning curve will be steep, methinks.

I took him for a 1 1/2 hr walk early, mainly to try and get him to go a wee outside (which did not work btw - he's not peed since he arrived @ 12 midday Confused) and took the muzzle off him after the first 3 dogs we'd met (and on advice of his fosterer).

So far, so v v good Smile

I tried to take another photo of him to post here, but the glare of the sun and his blackness make for a picture on which you cannot make out anything at all - sorry!
