How many types of dog walking shoes do you own?

We have just got a foster dog and I really need to rethink my footwear! I bought some cheapy walking boots but I think I'm going to take them back because they are not very comfortable and I've only worn them around the house, why are walking boots so stiff? I have lots of trainers, but they aren't very waterproof when walking in wet grass/mud/in the rain, so I do need something waterproof.
I need a new pair of wellies so i was wondering if I should just get a really good pair of wellies, I've heard Aigle are very comfortable/supportive, and just wear them all the time?

I can't afford a different pair of shoes for different weather/terrain but I feel like I need them! How many do you have, and what would you recommend?

I usually fall back on my hunters. Everyone on here seems to hate them and says they fall apart but mine have done 3 winters of almost daily use and are still comfy and waterproof. I even got mine cheap from t k maxx! I also have a couple of pairs of timberlands for if I need to be more presentable which are gorgeous and warm and waterproof. In the summer I wear trainers or an old pair of keds. Would recommend any of them!

Stinkylinky · 17/03/2015 10:25

My hunters for wet and mud but normally just trainers

BloodyDogHairs · 17/03/2015 10:39

Hunters for the winter and Sketchers go walk for summer.

shelldockley · 17/03/2015 10:43

I have Hunters but they have got too small for my calves not that my calves have got too big, oh no...that's why I need new wellies!

I wear these in winter...well I'm in Scotland so for about 3/4s of the year tbh, lol and just whatever trainers I have in the go the rest of the time.

BadgersInTheSlurryLagoon · 17/03/2015 10:44

I have Toggi full length leather boots - about the same price as Hunters, warm, good soles and waterproof even after 3 years of daily wear in Cornwall. Envy of everyone who lives in places where it dries out enough to walk in trainers in summer.

Purpleflamingos · 17/03/2015 10:48

I have two pairs but pay a dog walker Blush

Bowlersarm · 17/03/2015 10:51

I just have one pair of muck boots I wear all year round, rain or shine.

shelldockley · 17/03/2015 10:55

How supportive are the Timberlands, the Toggis and the Woof Wear ones?

I have a pair of Merrel waterproof boots that have lasted two years of almost continuous use and are still going strong, they're comfortable, warm and waterproof (I re-proofed them this winter). I don't think I'd manage walking in wellies everyday.?

tabulahrasa · 17/03/2015 11:06

The woofwear ones, not as supportive as good trainers or walking boots, better than wellies.

I have an old muddy pair of country boots that I wear come rain or shine. I walk DDog in the Chilterns twice a day and sturdy is a necessity.

holmessweetholmes · 17/03/2015 11:16

I have Barbour wellies, a pair of wonderful comfy Brasher leather walking boots and also a pair of trail running shoes which I wear for not too muddy dog walks. I've had all three of these for ages (long before I had a dog). The walking boots are the comfiest but take time to lace up, so I sometimes go for the wellies out of sheer laziness!

chocolatereindeer · 17/03/2015 11:22

I have

A pair of cheap karrimor 'walking trainers' approx £15. Comfy but no grip at all, pointless unless walking on flat solid non-slippy surface.
Sat gathering dust for ages, but will be handy for wearing while painting and decorating :/

Salomon contagrip trainers. £50+ new, but got mine for £20 almost brand new on eBay. Comfy and so grippy. Worn daily on roads, forest roads, tracks, muddy footpaths etc. Brilliant shoes.

Wellies (and full waterproofs!) for when it's chucking it down and we're just going to the nearest field to play fetch/expend some energy!

HoneySwampDragonInMourning · 17/03/2015 11:36

I have a selection of wellies

Fancy Rainboots for through town
Ancient green Hunters for nearly everything.
Purple long slim fit wellies to wear with shorts through nettles etc in summer
Ankle wellies for late spring early autumn.

Nice to see my dogs namesake is wafting around today too Grin

shelldockley · 17/03/2015 11:36

Karrimor are the walking boots I bought, they have no support at all and are very stiff and scratchy, they are going back.

You people are a bad influence, I now feel I need:
New wellies for mud
Timberlands or Riding boots for smarter
Walking shoes for summer

Agree holmessweetholmes that wellies are much easier when you can't be bothered to do all those laces! Maybe I also need a shorter pair of wellies for quick walks...just seen jodhper boots on the Toggi site, they look good for just slipping on!

I'm liking your style honey, wellies are so much easier, I have old lady feet though and need good support for long walks, which is the best?

I have one pair of aigle anti fatigue wellies and they are fabulous, much more comfortable than my hillwalking boots. Expensive but definitely worth it.

shelldockley · 17/03/2015 12:33

Is that the Parcours Silverjohnleggedit?

OP posts:
Silverjohnleggedit · 17/03/2015 12:38

I think so - mine are lined with neoprene for extra warmth, but I think they come with and without neoprene. They took me through the winter very comfortably and I get very cold feet normally.

Floralnomad · 17/03/2015 13:17

At the moment I'm in a pair of Dublin country boots ,which are very lightweight and flexible but also warm and waterproof . I also have a pair of Aigle wellies ,they are fabulous . In the summer I walk in crocs or Birkenstocks .

pigsDOfly · 17/03/2015 13:19

Wellies that cost £12.99 at the local garden centre.

They have just gone through their second winter and apart from being muddy are in excellent condition. Wear them with a second pair of sock and they are really warm.

They are amazingly comfortable and supportive and I walk miles in them.

Go into trainers for dog walking when the weather gets warm, but miss my wellies, they're so easy to slip on and off.

Having said that, wellies are no good in snow, but we didn't have any this year where I live, wear my snow boots then if necessary.

HoneySwampDragonInMourning · 17/03/2015 14:27

I like my Hunters but they are from when they were still manufactured in Scotland.

My Nora's (you can get them on Amazon) are nice and sturdy too.

I currently have these as I like the heel

pinkje · 17/03/2015 21:07

I have the Parcours Bottilon from Aigle and they are the best wellies I've had (previously I had Hunters and like you they got too tight). The Bottilon come half way up the calf and I find that gives enough protection.

I also have a pair of walking boots, Keen is the manufacturer, and they are really comfortable too.

Trainers for the drier days.
