Good dry shampoo for dogs

Hiya

After some advice for some good dog dry shampoo. Used to use the dogs trust foam one which was awesome, smelt heavenly and lasted a while but they've stopped making it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Personally I use human batiste on mine and brush it through. He's a black dog though so i do need to make sure it's thoroughly brushed through. I'd be wary of using it on a dog with a history of skin conditions but on an otherwise healthy dog I see no reason why not.

My late westie I used Johnson's baby powder. It left him beautifully soft and smelling a treat and really brightened his coat.

It's a shame there aren't more dog dry shampoos around.

Dumdidum · 12/01/2015 15:17

Yeah, the Dogs Trust one is amazing. Such a shame its not around anymore.

I had considered using batiste, may well go get some tonight :-) bought the Trixie one and he still stinks. Baths don't help as then he smells of wet dog.

Thanks for the suggestion :-)

Nooo - I ditched an almost full DT one a couple of weeks ago as I really couldn't stand the smell. Sorry, you could have had it!

SistersOfPercy · 12/01/2015 16:35

We use the cherry batiste at present. Smells lovely Grin

Dumdidum · 12/01/2015 16:46

Spicy - should have put it on ebay, a while back people were putting it up for silly money

Sisters - looking forward to trying the batiste plan.....can always use it myself if it doesn't suit him :-)

Aussie isn't bad either, but it's bloody expensive Blush

TheHoundsBitch · 12/01/2015 17:22

I've just ordered some dog's trust dry shampoo from ocado, is it an aerosol? I don't think dpup would tolerate being sprayed with anything 'hissy' she's a bit of a wimp.

Dumdidum · 12/01/2015 17:28

Haha will keep that in mind if it ever goes on offer......i love aussie for me so if he doesnt like it then i will be using the dogs shampoo (maybe wont tell anyone though)

Dogs Trust one is a foam pump. You just massage it in to their fur and then (IMO) they smell amaaaaazing. You can towel off the excess.
Glad ocado has stock, will have to buy some from there

Have a look at fetch.co.UK that's ocado's dedicated pet store and I think you can get 10% off a first order as well.

SistersOfPercy · 12/01/2015 23:16

Yep, it's there

fetch.co.uk/dog-trust-quick-fix-shampoo-150ml-83601011dog-trust-quick-fix-shampoo-150ml-83601011

Might order some myself and see what the fuss is about Grin
Incidentally, if you use Ocado anyway you can order from fetch and it comes with your food delivery at no extra cost. I was planning on ordering Murphy his Kong filet this week from there so I might try the shampoo too.

Dumdidum · 13/01/2015 08:38

Oh amazing. Thank you :-) ive got an ocado discount code so i was planning on doing an order soon anyway.

Haha i hope i havent over sold it, but makes my lab smell great!

TheHoundsBitch · 13/01/2015 10:29

Ooh I didn't know you could do that percy; thanks!

SistersOfPercy · 13/01/2015 12:05

Just to point out I ordered Murph Kong FILLER not Filet. He's not that spoiled that he gets steak just yet....

Anyway, I have ordered some to try, coming with my Thursday Ocado delivery. I actually love Fetch for that, so much easier to have everything turn up with the normal shop.

I shall report back Grin

SistersOfPercy · 15/01/2015 17:53

Oh bloody hell dumdi that stuff is gorgeous! It smells amazing, bit like battenberg cake.

He sleeps upstairs at the end of DD's bed so smelling nice is very important and he does smell amazing. I'd better order a couple more with next weeks shop Blush

Have they definitely stopped making it?

dalmatianmad · 15/01/2015 18:05

I'm curious! Why would you use a dry shampoo on a dog?
I've never heard of anyone using it on a dog?

SistersOfPercy · 15/01/2015 18:33

^I'm curious! Why would you use a dry shampoo on a dog?

Because bathing a dog too much strips oils from it's coat so a dry shampoo is a quick fix between regular.

Dumdidum · 16/01/2015 10:39

Haha, I am glad you approve! Its the only one that seems to last for a good few days smelling amazing too (well until the inevitable roll in fox poo occurs)

My dog hates baths, gets very upset and sulks. He also stinks of wet dog after, which often stinks the house out worse. Dry shampoo is the best option for him, quick, painless and no wet dog smell so a happy him and a happy me

dalmatianmad · 16/01/2015 18:03

I've only bathed the dalmatian once in 2 years and my staffie hadn't had a bath yet, he's 1.cant imagine spraying chemicals on them though Hmm

minicar · 16/01/2015 20:38

You could use a cornstarch powder instead. Sprinkle a little bit of powder and brush out. www.amazon.co.uk/Burts-Bees-Baby-Dusting-Powder/dp/B001E5D0CU

SistersOfPercy · 16/01/2015 21:40

That's nice dalmation. Sadly when you own a long haired breed you can't really go two years between baths Hmm

And as for chemicals, I assume you flea treat etc?

dalmatianmad · 16/01/2015 22:07

No need for the sarcasm sisters!
I'm genuinely interested hence why I commented and yes I do de - flea my dogs but generally with a product that my vet supplies rather than something that I douse them with Wink

SistersOfPercy · 16/01/2015 23:01

Not sarcasm at all, just a simple fact that longer haired breeds have to be bathed regularly for the health of their coat and the fact that because of that length they will smell, not to mention knot.

As for chemicals, vet supplied or not a dry shampoo will need to pass rigorous tests before it can appear on the shelves be it for human use or animal. I did say above I'd be wary using it on a dog with skin conditions but ultimately it has to be perfectly safe to be on sale in the first place.
As I also said above I previously used baby powder for a quick freshen up which worked great but at the time I had a white dog. Doesn't fare so well on a black one Grin

SistersOfPercy · 16/01/2015 23:02

Oh incidentally dumdi I spoke to dogs trust today, the company that made the shampoo has gone into liquidation. Sadly the stock that's out there is the last Sad

Dumdidum · 17/01/2015 10:12

Haha I think a major Ocado stock up is in order.

If my dog didnt roll in poo and mud on a daily basis then i wouldn't bath him. I would rather not, trust me! But the house would be filthy and stinky and unfit for humans if I didnt. I like to believe that its no different to washing myself which i do daily and i dont like to think that companys such as dogs trust would put their names on something that would harm my dog. I am an excessively trusting person though
