Seriously. She's 13 weeks. She was sold as a girl. But she kind of has a bit of a micropenis. I've never had a bitch before and don't know if its normal, puppy hormones or something??

See where you mean about the hernia now and possible. I've just had a little prod and it seems more swollen on her left and concave on her right. Its very soft and squidgy though.

Looks like we might go to the vet. Will it need an operation?

The very = the vet Blush

EdYouKateShaun · 31/10/2014 16:15

I think whether an operation is needed will depend on the size, position and make up (whether it's fat or other tissue poking through) of the hernia. Some dogs do and some don't. I'd tell your breeder if it's confirmed as one though. At the very least they should have told you about it.

LoathsomeDrab · 31/10/2014 16:28

I could be wrong but I think inguinal (near the groin) hernias do need surgical correction whereas umbilical (fairly self explanatory) ones can sometimes be left to rectify themselves.

I'd get in touch with the breeder as well, they really should have let you know about it. Is she insured?

VivaLeBeaver · 31/10/2014 16:31

Yes, she's insured.m she's still on her four weeks free with pet plan atm and then I've booked for a lifelong policy to start in 8 days.

I'm guessing im better waiting a couple of weeks so the new policy has started before taking her? Or is it urgent?

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 31/10/2014 16:32

And is she ok to take for walks still?

EdYouKateShaun · 31/10/2014 16:32

Your cover should be continuous. Give them a call to check?

VivaLeBeaver · 31/10/2014 16:37

There was something in the small print of the new one saying I couldn't claim in the first week.

OP posts:
EdYouKateShaun · 31/10/2014 16:44

I wouldn't have thought it was urgent. Just watch for pain I guess.

BellaVita · 31/10/2014 18:59

Didn't realise boy dogs have nipples too Shock

Lilcamper · 31/10/2014 19:24

BellaVita · 01/11/2014 08:10

Viva we have a nearly 4 year old Cavachon, looking at yours I would say a girl because ours was so big down below, before he was snipped that he was almost trailing along the ground. She says with pride.

higgle · 03/11/2014 16:11

Don't ask me, I had a "dog" for six months before I realised she was a bitch. ( young and foolish at the time).

VivaLeBeaver · 03/11/2014 16:17

Higgle, that made me laugh. Glad I'm not the only one who struggled to tell!

mumtoblaire · 04/11/2014 19:39

As a vet nurse I can confirm she is female. No doubt about it. :)

Owllady · 05/11/2014 13:44

If it is a hernia, you can generally get it sorted the same time you get them spayed. It's not urgent

VivaLeBeaver · 05/11/2014 17:06

Well it doesn't seem to be slowing her down or bothering her so will get it done if needed when she's spayed.

FiveHoursSleep · 05/11/2014 17:11

Def a girl.

LoathsomeDrab · 05/11/2014 17:19

Have you spoken to the breeder about it? I'd be very surprised if they weren't aware of it before you picked her up.

daisydotandgertie · 05/11/2014 17:27

viva - I recommend you change the start date of the new policy to 2 weeks before the end of the free policy, ensuring you won't be uninsured for any period of time.

Puppies are very accident prone and you really don't want something to happen during the uninsured period because it may well count as a pre existing condition exclusion for the new policy.

Pup is def a girl, no doubt at all.

VivaLeBeaver · 05/11/2014 17:46

No haven't spoken to the breeder. She's on holiday. She's hardly going to admit to knowing about it though.

I've got an overlap in the policies of a week. But just don't want to claim on the free one incase they wash their hands of it all when the policy ends and the new policy refuse to do anything because then they say it was pre existing.

What is a cavachon

VivaLeBeaver · 05/11/2014 18:20

One of those daft designer breeds. Grin

Half cavalier and half bichon frise.

whysnicknameinvalid · 08/11/2014 15:00

Definitely a girl!!
