Anyone adopted an adult staffie from a rescue?

If so can you share your experience?

I'm seriously considering this. I now have the time, money, space, energy and love for a rescue dog and I know the shelters are desperate for staffie lovers.

TIA.

Very exciting! I hope it all goes well and she gets to come home soon.

I can't resist posting a pic of my ddog, also brindle.

I haven't rescued one but I've owned two and they are just the most beautiful dogs, best personalities out of all the breeds (but then I am biased!).

The photo of the blinged up staffy in one of the posts above made me laugh! Ours is just as tolerant; DS subjected her to 'hairdressing' the other day. Absolutely unfazed. She just loves being involved with anything he does!

Apologies if my post seemed negative, I just remember when I was going through some of the more difficult phases of settling in etc, I wished that someone had prepared me for the tough stuff. However, I also echo pieceoftoast, they are so brilliant, and I would never now have another breed, it will always be staffies for me.

And you can see for my pics how much he loves, like piece's staffy, just being involved - whether it's being a hoody buddy with my ds (staffys have very thin fur and ours is a dithering wreck when it's cold, and looks like he's just come out of a boxing club when he's got one of ds's hoodies on! And as you can see from aimlesslypurposeful's pics and mine, they love nothing more than snuggling up with you, if at all possible! You won't regret it. Pics soonest pls!

It was nice to see your posts sexbomb I have wondered sometimes how you've been getting on with him. Lots of hard work and commitment on your part made all the difference with him! Grin

I appreciate all your comments, and I'm taking them on board Smile

I had the driveway fenced off today, I'm almost ready! (Not buying bed, bowl etc till I know for sure - I wasn't even this suspicious when pregnant lol)
Still can't post pics, never have been able to on the mobile site. I'll try to do it on the laptop when I get chance.

Here's ours, about 6 months old now. She has been amazing, the easiest little dog I have ever owned. Full of fun, keen to please, devoted to DS and a positive addition to our family.
Even my notoriously dog suspicious neighbour declared her "a most engaging child" :o

MrsFox nice to see a wee update on your pup, she's still very cute!!

The rewards of taking in a rescue staffie definitely out weigh the hard stuff at the start, 2 years down the line I barely remember the struggle at the start.

I adopted 11 year old staffie-cross Axel in June - he is fantastic and I love him so so much - previously had greyhounds but am converted now - I work 2 mornings a week for a local dog rescue and there are loads of staffies and staffie-crosses there and they are lovely dogs. I hope the picture comes out as have never posted one before.

I've bought her the most snuggly soft bed ever. I'd sleep in it myself. Grin

Quick question - how much and how often do you all feed them? She eats dry biscuits. Thanks.

we have two.
one was an older (6mth) puppy 14 years ago, and the other we got this march and she was 15mths. Lovely lovely friendly clever girls, although the younger one is still quite bouncy and energetic but we're working on that. Its usually people she doesnt know. She leaps at them. Its pure exuberance and overfriendliness but thats not the point obviously. Any tips??

After trial and error I feed mine Wainwrights wet dog food - I used to give him other food that my greyhounds had thrived on but he always had the runs and find Wainrights very good for his poos and also he loves it. They do different sizes - trays, pouches and mini trays and he has 2 meals a day around 7am and 5pm. I get it at Pets at Home but other places sell it I think.

Sorry can't advise on overfriendliness as mine is very friendly but very obedient to my commands and I think he must have had some training with his previous owner although apparently the previous owner took him to the vet to be put down as they were moving into rented accomodation, couldn't take a pet and didn't want him to go to a rescue centre as they felt that was cruel to him - luckily the vet felt otherwise.

Have to confess he does sleep on my bed at night on his fleece but in the day he has a duvet in the lounge as well as a crate that he loves and he often just takes himself off into it but if I go out he is crated. He is currently in there now, snoring his little head off.

We feed Burns dry food. ATM she is still on puppy food but will move on to adult at around 12 months.
Fingers crossed we have avoided the worst of the infamous "Staffie farts", only noticeable if she has other treats.
The boys eat Burns Alert which is a working dog formula so no VAT. I pay about £33 for 12kg which lasts them about 4 weeks :)

We feed ddog James Wellbeloved kibble (mixed with a small amount of chappie or vegetables for interest) once at about 7.30am and again at about 5pm.

Hi everyone, sorry to leave you hanging!

She came home on Monday and has been absolutely perfect from the minute she got in the car.

She's settled in well so far, no bad habits I can see. Even took her in the woods this morning off lead and she came back every time.

I'm so happy, she's amazing SmileSmile
