Anyone adopted an adult staffie from a rescue?

If so can you share your experience?

I'm seriously considering this. I now have the time, money, space, energy and love for a rescue dog and I know the shelters are desperate for staffie lovers.

TIA.

I have a 5 year old rescue staffie adopted in sept. He’s amazing! Our last dog was a staffie too who we had from a pup until just before he was to turn 16. Both are just full of love and affection! My rescue now follows me and my daughter round and is always on our knees! Just looking at us and kissing us. He’s fine with other dogs, even ignores barking dogs. He’s so friendly but I make sure to socialise with friends with dogs. I’d say deffo get a rescue and they will love you forever! There are so many Staffies in rescues! You could ask to foster first and see how you get on and then adopt if your unsure? x

Hey Southern, how is your staffie? I have one coming on home trial tomorrow and would love to hear how you are getting on.

oh yes brunette forgot that - Kenny is such a grunter and a snorter which is brilliant - I always wanted a pig. And he loves the sound of his own voice and is a real 'talker'. He puts his paws either side of my lap, looks earnestly into my face and then makes all kinds of weird never heard another dog make kind of mix of a growl/grunt/howl noises. Very seriously. Anyone elses Staffie a talker?

Hope yours is Southern, it is the fabbest thing, I swear they really think they're people. Grin

sounds absolutely gorgeous, Kenny is a keen woodsman, too! It's brill that they have such short hair, I quickly introduced him to the shower, and now in the autumn/winter he comes straight in from his walk, goes straight upstairs and waits for me outside the shower. Then post shower he trots of to my room to await a blow dry. You can see why my dh calls him Penny not Kenny, coz he's such a girl!

Pls try and figure out the pics thing, can't wait to see a photo. I'm so pleased she's settling in so well, am really, really made up for you.

Re: the farts, once she's proper settled you can tweak her food which has really helped with Kenny - nothing beef related at all or we all have to wear gas masks - seriously he can clear a room of my dh's biker mates all coughing, choking and wretching!!!! Envy that is not envy but nausea!!!

Wishing you many years of happiness together, you won't find a more loyal dog than a rescue staffy!

Fabulous news!

wonderful - mine loves squirrels in the woods - bet your girl is the same and I find staffies tend to make grunting noises when pleased - mine is more like a piglet in that way than a dog

Lovely name. Bet she loved the woods. Ours used to adore exploring everywhere and falling into streams, rivers, puddles, cow pats .....

My mum did a lot of dog washing come to think of it ...

Hi everyone, sorry to leave you hanging!

She came home on Monday and has been absolutely perfect from the minute she got in the car.

She's settled in well so far, no bad habits I can see. Even took her in the woods this morning off lead and she came back every time.

I'm so happy, she's amazing SmileSmile

We feed ddog James Wellbeloved kibble (mixed with a small amount of chappie or vegetables for interest) once at about 7.30am and again at about 5pm.

We feed Burns dry food. ATM she is still on puppy food but will move on to adult at around 12 months.
Fingers crossed we have avoided the worst of the infamous "Staffie farts", only noticeable if she has other treats.
The boys eat Burns Alert which is a working dog formula so no VAT. I pay about £33 for 12kg which lasts them about 4 weeks :)

After trial and error I feed mine Wainwrights wet dog food - I used to give him other food that my greyhounds had thrived on but he always had the runs and find Wainrights very good for his poos and also he loves it. They do different sizes - trays, pouches and mini trays and he has 2 meals a day around 7am and 5pm. I get it at Pets at Home but other places sell it I think.

Sorry can't advise on overfriendliness as mine is very friendly but very obedient to my commands and I think he must have had some training with his previous owner although apparently the previous owner took him to the vet to be put down as they were moving into rented accomodation, couldn't take a pet and didn't want him to go to a rescue centre as they felt that was cruel to him - luckily the vet felt otherwise.

Have to confess he does sleep on my bed at night on his fleece but in the day he has a duvet in the lounge as well as a crate that he loves and he often just takes himself off into it but if I go out he is crated. He is currently in there now, snoring his little head off.

we have two.
one was an older (6mth) puppy 14 years ago, and the other we got this march and she was 15mths. Lovely lovely friendly clever girls, although the younger one is still quite bouncy and energetic but we're working on that. Its usually people she doesnt know. She leaps at them. Its pure exuberance and overfriendliness but thats not the point obviously. Any tips??

I've bought her the most snuggly soft bed ever. I'd sleep in it myself. Grin

Quick question - how much and how often do you all feed them? She eats dry biscuits. Thanks.

I adopted 11 year old staffie-cross Axel in June - he is fantastic and I love him so so much - previously had greyhounds but am converted now - I work 2 mornings a week for a local dog rescue and there are loads of staffies and staffie-crosses there and they are lovely dogs. I hope the picture comes out as have never posted one before.
