Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I’m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don’t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

I let both mine off separately until they've got it out of their system, then later together when they're more tired and less likely to act like a pair of hooligans that are trying to kill each other.

Pip did really well with yet another dog charging up to us without an owner today - he's really coming on. He did do a couple of little wuffs, but the other dog was super friendly and ignored him so he said hello anyway and decided she was actually ok. Grin

I phoned the rescue where Blue came from today. I came home to another puddle. I wasn't even gone that long. They are going to get their support behaviourists to call me. She thinks the drinking and weeing is some kind of anxiety and not medical as he can go all night and not wee indoors. Its doesn't always happen. Initially I thought it was because he had a 3/4hour limit on being left but now I'm not so sure. Lady on the phone was lovely and said I was doing all the right things asked me if the two dogs were getting on ok, what do I feed, what do I clean it up with, what's my routine when I leave/return to the house etc. I was fine with the occasional accident but today it got a bit overwhelming for me. So now have to wait for the call.

Cinammon perhaps he finds it more exciting to come back to you on a run because you are running and the chances for you to change direction/route occur much quicker and he needs to keep on his toes or risk losing you? This is an absolute stab in the dark!!

I'm ok thanks moosemama - I'm just struggling with walking a little bit - I'm only 21 weeks pregnant but I have hypermobility so my joints aren't very happy. We will waddle at the back - to be honest Barry isn't exactly the most athletic anymore. He's retired and takes it very seriously.

moosemama · 10/06/2014 19:56

Oh, I feel for your Nelly, I have hypermobility too and my pelvis pretty much gave up with all three of my dcs. I had dreadful SPD and dh had to be on dog walking duty from about 5 months onwards.

If it's helpful at all, I found a decent Ostoeopath was the thing to put me back together postnatally each time.

NellyNoodle1 · 10/06/2014 20:02

I've got my scan tomorrow and I'm seeing my consultant - I haven't been diagnosed long and I don't really know much about it apart from the pain! I will try to find someone to help after - last one I went to I couldn't walk for a week though and had finger bruises all down my back! Maybe I should go back for Bowen hmm.

PeanutPatty · 10/06/2014 21:46

Have you consideredMcTimomey?

NellyNoodle1 · 11/06/2014 13:16

I haven't tried it myself - my pony and greyhound have had it (I'm one of those people who whip out my cheque book if it's for the animals without thinking but wince at the thought of paying £40 for myself).

PeanutPatty · 11/06/2014 23:40

Same here Nell. Bloody horse has the back lady loads whereas I am creaking around cracking on when I should really get myself seen.

TheCunnyFunt · 12/06/2014 21:51

Hello all, how is everybody doing?

Sprocket had a lovely run on a practically deserted beach on Sunday. It was fantastic seeing him so lively for a change :o isn't he amazing?

:o Mistle, great pic! You've got to love action shots!

BravePotato · 14/06/2014 20:56

Oh cunnyfunt, what cross is yours? Or fully greyhound?

I have a greyhound cross who looks like yours

TheCunnyFunt · 14/06/2014 21:45

He's a pedigree greyhound, a retired racer :)

Do you know what yours is crossed with?

BravePotato · 14/06/2014 22:43

Greyhound whippet deerhound, but looks very greyhoundy, black and silky with white chest and socks.

Runs like the wind!

sooperdooper · 15/06/2014 09:48

Is anyone thinking of taking their hound on the Great British Greyhound walk? :)

It's next Sunday, raising awareness for ex racing Grey's but at a lot of the walks all sight hounds are welcome, there's not a big one near me so I've just submitted a 'local walk' that might just be me & Davey-dog!

PeanutPatty · 15/06/2014 21:40

I am! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 16/06/2014 07:47

We are there's a greyhound walk each month local to me and the same people are doing a GBGW this Sunday. Ours is a greyhound and lurcher only one. There's a lovely American couple with a lurcher ds2 loves who we've watched grow up but they bought their cavalier spaniel (I think) one week and were told they had to leave him at home in future. I understand why but it's still a shame :(

mistlethrush · 16/06/2014 09:16

Cinnamon - I think that's awful!

I met some podenco owners who said that they had raced them somewhere that was very 'exclusive' to the breed that was meant to be racing - and they really liked the fact that the lurcher owners were so welcoming and allowed them to race in the middle of the event not just at the end (albeit in their own race - I didn't realise how much slower they are!) and had 'all breeds' and 'terriers' races available too. It's a real pity when people get too exclusive about the type of dog they have.

I'm going to try to catch the one up the road from me - its quite small at the moment.

moosemama · 16/06/2014 10:10

Scary news about the reason the Stratford walk has been cancelled. That's just a bit too close to home for my liking - and would most likely have been the walk we would have joined if we were able to go. Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 16/06/2014 10:22

I didn't see why moosemama just saw a post on fb.

I think it's because some of the regulars are fine with other greyhounds and not with other breeds. I've been with Lola before and they've been fine but I guess she is a lurcher. She doesn't sedately trot along like the greys though Blush

moosemama · 16/06/2014 10:24

3 dogs dead and 8 seriously ill from unknown causes - I've started a thread on here to warn other owners. We walk there with our dogs sometimes, as it's a nice long walk on a secure route.

Nobody knows why yet, as the warning only came out this weekend, but it's sounding like another one of the alabama rot/seasonal disorder type things - the only other option being deliberate poisoning. Sad

PeanutPatty · 16/06/2014 13:44

I don't know the details but based on what you've said MT I was going to suggest Alabama Rot. Scary isn't it?

moosemama · 16/06/2014 14:04

Yep, really scary. It just seems so random. That's three places I've walked my dogs that are implicated in these scares. Makes me worry about taking them anywhere new, just in case.

Think I might have a google and see if there's any sign of similar stuff going on where we go on holiday - although I'll probably just scare myself silly if there is.

PeanutPatty · 16/06/2014 17:46

You know the moment when your hound is off lead and he takes off at full pelt across the park towards a man who is walking along minding his own business and looks up to see a Lurcher in full flight and you wish you'd put him back on the lead earlier? Well that. Just that.

Fortunately the man stood stock still as Blue belted straight past him towards a load of sparrows on the ground. I didn't know whether to be relieved or not. He did a massive sweeping corner still in fifth gear and came hooning back to me when I called.
