Help me name my puppy!

Maybe I should put this in baby names? Anyway she is red coated, and has a temperment to match. We are completely stuck. At least, we have a list but nothing fits, even though the names are nice in themselves. She is a pretty puppy but will be quite an elegant rough coated adult dog.

Rhoda? Rhonda?
Clancy?
Rowan?
Sorrell?

hellymelly · 19/01/2014 12:50

Rowan was on our list but is a good friends name so that has sort of vetoed it.

I like old lady names...Edie, Ethel, Doris, Audrey, Mabel?

Thumbwitch · 19/01/2014 13:32

What about Rowena, then? Or Rohina?

moosemama · 19/01/2014 13:36

Blaze/Blaise
Scarlet
Ruby

What breed is she?

BOFtastic · 19/01/2014 13:49

Poppy

Radley

Scarlett

Sorrel

hellymelly · 19/01/2014 13:53

Ethel a possible, that is on our list, Scarlet and Ruby both small girls we know. Am trying to think of historical or literary dogs but my brain has seized up.

Poppy would be good as she was born on 11/11, but it is my close friend's dog and also a little girl we know. My dd likes Rusty but I am not sure. Keep 'em coming folks!

Toto? Wink

LoreleisSecret · 19/01/2014 14:13

Lorelei Smile

moosemama · 19/01/2014 14:28

List of fictional and literary dogs.

It's wiki, but might be a good starting point.

buttercrumble · 19/01/2014 14:30

Red

Sosyermaw · 19/01/2014 14:33

Ginger? Grin

hellymelly · 19/01/2014 15:41

Love Ginger as big Fred Astaire fans, but shouting "OI GINGER" on the beach might not go down well.... Ditto love Red, and had it on our list, but feel maybe its not an easy sound for a dog, and "Reddy" isn't great. Red is still a possible though.

Copper
Pumpkin
Willow

hellymelly · 19/01/2014 16:45

Willow another friend, Copper my best friend's dog, and Pumpkin my mother's communal cat. Everything I think of is either an elderly relative (DM, MIL !) or a friend's child/pet. My last two dogs had nickname type names but nothing is springing to mind. She is very wilful and firey, seems like a very clever dog but is certainly a handful as a pup. Only 9 weeks old though so she will hopefully calm down a bit.

Blaze

Doinmummy · 19/01/2014 16:49

There was a mad dog in a Jilly Cooper book called Sevenoaks . I love that name

hellymelly · 19/01/2014 17:13

She's more of an inferno than a blaze. She's currently trying to destroy a tulle tutu. DD is still wearing it.

OP posts:
Doinmummy · 19/01/2014 17:17

Tutu toots for short

Bowlersarm · 19/01/2014 17:18

Dora

(Short for Adorable, haha)

Or Nora

Or Lola

Or Mabel/Maude

hellymelly · 19/01/2014 18:34

Know an awful lot of small girls called Lola, and a Nora. I really like Maud but no one else in the family approves. It is on the shortlist at the moment though. I once met a grey wire haired terrier called Brillo. Still my favourite dogs name, but agree Sevenoaks is fab. (I do love Jilly).

Maple? They have red leaves don't they? I have a Mabel :)

Aked · 19/01/2014 21:32

Rita?

Thumbwitch · 19/01/2014 22:06

Acer - the Japanese maples - lots of red leaves there!
Fern - short for inferno
Etna or some other volcano of your choice
Candy - short for incandescent
Grin
