Dry dog food

Which dry dog food do you feed and why?

OP posts:
birthdaywrappingpaper · 30/12/2013 19:31

Burgess sensitive dog food, any flavour.

My lurcher gets diarrhea from any other food. But he can eat long dead corpses/dog poo (his own or other's, he's not fussy)/toys/bits of wood ie anything he can get his paws on before I get him to drop it, with no ill effect. Its bizarre.

HoneyDragon · 30/12/2013 19:37

Markus Muhle (and BARF too) I was a bit wary at first as it has maize, but it is cold pressed and the maize is easier on the digestive system.

I was totally converted immediately, her poos were exactly as they are on raw, her weight stays perfect, she loves it so much I use it for training and her coat and teeth are gleaming.

It seems to keep her, frankly manic, disposition a lot calmer too.

I have never be so evangical about a doog food ever, it's fab Grin

Shesparkles · 30/12/2013 19:39

Royal Canin, it's what he was weaned onto by the breeder. We tried James Wellbeloved (it was a freebie from the vet!) but it went right through him, so we've just stuck with what we know he's ok on

LittleMissRedSparklyBaubles · 30/12/2013 19:42

Iams - the weight control ones. SparklyHound seems quite happy with them and she doesn't seem as hungry eating this as on other dry foods.

SnakeyMcBadass · 30/12/2013 19:42

Skinners duck and rice and Burns Mini bites. They also have raw chicken and other 'real' foods sometimes (raw eggs, meat scraps, pasta, potato, veg etc). My spaniel has various allergies which affect his anal glands , and Skinners is one of the few foods he can tolerate without pooing soup.

CMOTDibbler · 30/12/2013 20:16

Oscars sensitive, and this week Burgess sensitive as a trial. He's a lurcher and has a v sensitive tummy - many of the sensitive brands give him the runs.

HobbitWorrier · 30/12/2013 20:24

Skinners Duck and rice or Salmon and rice. Suits her perfectly, everyone always comments on her condition and no sloppy massive poo's!

HobbitWorrier · 30/12/2013 20:24

Or is it salmon and potato... anyway, its skinners!

SauvignonBlanche · 30/12/2013 20:27

Pedigree Chum light.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/12/2013 20:28

Royal Canine (dachshund) - its what the breeder had him on when we got him at 10 months. It suits him. He gets various other stuff but that's his staple.

Floralnomad · 30/12/2013 20:31

Barking Heads ,mainly the lamb one ( good hair day) or the chicken sensitive one .

Gottleogear · 30/12/2013 20:31

Wainwrights Salmon & Potato from PAH. Gottle Dog has a jippy tummy and he is great on this. His coat is really shiney and good solid poos Smile Smile

ClaimedByMe · 30/12/2013 20:31

Barking heads 'good hair day' as she likes it, doesn't make her fart, her poops are perfect and it stops her skin being dry.

WeAllHaveWings · 30/12/2013 20:56

Millies Wolfheart countryside mix. 3 days after starting loose poos and smelly farts (from months of Eden) disappeared. They also do a great range of dried chewy treats (tripe, udders, lamb skin, cows ears, paddy whacks, whistle blowers etc).

Mishmashofstyles · 30/12/2013 20:58

We use Markus Muhle too Honeydragon!

High five for being dog food twins yeah!

WeAllHaveWings · 30/12/2013 21:02

Forgot why (apart from solid poos and no wind) its grain free, British, and has good quality protein in it.

NeverKnowinglyHelpful · 30/12/2013 21:08

Another one for Wainwright's salmon and potato here - we basically looked for a food that didn't include "animal derivatives" or "vegetable derivatives" on the ingredients list, and then compared prices. We used Bakers initially, but it made her ill and she then refused to eat it, so we switched and haven't looked back Smile

HoneyDragon · 30/12/2013 21:10

Yaaaay

It's bloody marvellous stuff though isn't it? and less than half the price of Orijjin

binger · 30/12/2013 23:04

Barking heads, Fusspot cos well she's a fusspot plus she's really healthy on it. I think she's getting bored of it though so I think we'll change to something else for a bit, don't know what.

HoneyDragon · 30/12/2013 23:12

Binger, may I suggest This?

Your dog will thank you Grin

JulietBravoJuliet · 31/12/2013 09:45

Burgess Sensitive here as well. I've got a dog with a very sensitive stomach and, after much trial and error (and expense!), it's the only food she seems ok on. Tried her on Orijen, Barking Heads, Collards, Fish 4 Dogs etc, and they all give her the squits, or make her fur fall out. Even a raw diet made her poos runny. She's been on Burgess for 4 months now and so far, so good :)

Tygra · 31/12/2013 12:54

Millie's Wolfheart Riverside Mix. Had the salmon one first but poo was awful, much better on Riverside.

Isthatwhatdemonsdo · 31/12/2013 14:58

Burns. Was on Wellbeloved but he's a fussy git so changed to Burns.

sebastianthesingingaubergine · 31/12/2013 15:46

Another on Miilies Wolfheart countryside mix.

She was on JW puppy/junior, but had intermittent diarrhoea, and was an itchy dog first thing in the mornings for some reason. Decided to try grain free and settled on Millies. Her poo has been beautiful since swapping, if that is possible! Not one loose day, and the itching has stopped, but I'm not sure if she wasn't growing out of that anyway. Definitely keeping her on the Millies for poo reasons alone.
