Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I’m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don’t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

Heeeeeeere's Cunny! :o

Heck, I didn't think it had been that long since I last posted Blush
Are there some newbies since I was last here? Any news?

This is my Sprocket :)

Aww, Sprocket is lovely. And a lovely pic of Mistlehound.

Pat, I was thinking of you today as we cycled (sans dog) along the valley cycle trail near you

moosemama · 15/03/2014 20:36

Lovely to see all the pictures of our pointies.

Sprocket is rather dapper looking in that cheerful collar and bandana combo. Smile

My news is that Pip has managed to injure himself, yet again. Hmm I swear he could win an award for the most accident prone dog.

We're not sure what he did, he was in my pil's garden running around with Lurcherboy, they ran up the steps on the decking, dh and I were both watching him and he suddenly started really screaming. Neither of us saw what happened but we shot over, checked his whole leg and couldn't find anything, so had to scoop him up and get him inside - lord knows what pil's neighbours must have thought was going on! shock

Couldn't find anything at first, but he was totally lame, refusing to put his foot down and we were worried he'd broken something for a few minutes. Then we found one tiny graze on the top of his shoulder and we think he must have clipped the corner of one of pil's ornamental flower beds as he was running past.

There's no swelling and he's walking on his leg again now, but is still a bit lame. I've cleaned up the graze, although it was very minor and smothered the surrounding area in arnica and a few hours later there is a purplish bruise about the size of a 50p piece around the graze.

Brought him home in the footwell of the car, as it didn't seem fair to squish him in with Lurcherboy to be potentially leaned or trodden on. He was fine, until we got home, then couldn't get up to get out of the car and started screaming again. Think he'd seized up, as once he manouevred himself into the right position to step out of the door he was fine again and walked into the house with just a slight limp.

He's pottered about and been happy to go out in the garden (up and down the back doorstep) with no problems since, so we're keeping a close eye on him and if he doesn't seem any worse tomorrow, will take him to see our vet on Monday.

He is a massive wuss, it has to be said. He screams horrifically for the most minor things so the level of screaming tends not to be an accurate indicator of the severity of an injury. Poor pil's were really concerned, but we've been through him screaming similarly over practically nothing several times before - he even used to do it when we first got him if he thought Lurcherboy might bump into him when they were running in the garden!

cinnamongreyhound · 15/03/2014 20:42

Peanuts like that moosemama, my friend thought we were going to go home because he kept wailing! I had a quick look and found nothing so decided to leave him to it, he trotted gently between us for about half a mile and then Lola ran after something and he chased after her, not a sound or anymore slow trotting for the rest of the run and no sign of any injury when we got home.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/03/2014 20:46

I'm loving all the photos :)

mistlethrush · 15/03/2014 20:52

Only time mistlehound has screamed was when she broke the 4x4" post that was one side of the espalier apple - she broke it at ground level, having hit it with her back knee.... When we put a new one in we're going to put some padding on it at the bottom to keep her a bit further out...

cinnamongreyhound · 15/03/2014 20:56

Tough girl mistlethrush!

moosemama · 15/03/2014 21:02

Maybe it's just the boys that are big wusses then mistle! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 15/03/2014 21:05

Lola is a little toughy! I've seen her slam into peanut roll completely over twice and jump up and carry on running Grin. She's run into me and bruised my shin quite badly and not even flinched too but I reckon and 4x4 would be too much for her to take!

TheCunnyFuntIsGettingMarried · 15/03/2014 21:12

Poor Pip, he does sounds rather clumsy! Although I have to say, it's not just boys who are wimps. My friend has a girl, Grace, she's a beauuuutiful brindle greyhound. We were all out walking one morning and Grace suddenly started holding a front paw up and crying. My friend had a look and there, stuck to her pad, was a teeny weeny wet leaf :o

PatTheHammer · 15/03/2014 21:21

Ha ha, Dee is a proper greyhound wimp. She holds up her paw all the time and yelps. She has a sore pad at the moment and don't we know it......funny that it doesn't bother her whilst out running but only when she's lying on the sofa in need of a cuddle!

PatTheHammer · 15/03/2014 21:23

Ooh CMOT, were you on the stroud to nailsworth cycle track?

We were up on Rodborough common today and it was glorious!

mistlethrush · 15/03/2014 21:26

This was the proof of the post

CMOTDibbler · 15/03/2014 21:28

Thats the one Pat Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 15/03/2014 21:43

We have loads of beech trees around us and the nutshells fit perfectly in the middle of their pads. The number of walks we've been on where nelly or peanut have just stopped and hold up a paw is ridiculous!

TooOldForGlitter · 15/03/2014 22:19

Hi everybody, long time no see/speak?!

Bob had lots of fun today meeting a bro and sis pair of huge great danes. He was a bit surprised to find himself the smaller dog for a change! Wish i'd taken a photo, his 'whaaaat, i'm the biggest dawg' expression was priceless Grin

Gooner123 · 16/03/2014 08:29

Anybody going to Henham park today ?,there's a lurcher show, racing & a chase the bunny.
I shall be there with my little lurcher, weather looks good too.

mistlethrush · 16/03/2014 08:31

Bit far for me - otherwise we'd be there!

PatTheHammer · 16/03/2014 16:23

Ooh, worked out how to do photos on here! Loving all the hounds, pointys are so photogenic!

Here is one of Dee on her fave place ever aka....the sofa.

MuttonCadet · 16/03/2014 16:34

So nice to see all the pics of the pointys!

I could kick myself. It seems that when we are home Blue needs to wee every 2-3hrs. If we are out then he can hold on til we get home. This evening I must have missed his cues which I "think" are standing around and not settling, right in front of me he pees on the kitchen floor.

Now I'm wondering if this will improve or if this is just the way he is? In the evenings once the minis are in bed and he's on the sofa he will snooze and lounge around for hours without a wee.

I've been cleaning it up and then using our steam mop on it. Should I be using anything else? What do you all use for cleaning wee off the patio?

moosemama · 16/03/2014 20:05

Peanut, you need to use a biocide, preferably a proprietary pet sanitiser like Simple Solution (you can buy it at most pet shops), but if you don't have any you can use biological washing liquid.

You need to clean up as much of the waste/wet as possible, then thoroughly douse the area with the bio solution, leave it a few minutes then soak up the excess.

If you use anything else, you may not be able to smell it, but he still can.

For outdoor, patio-type cleaning I use a few drops of tea tree oil in a bucket of water and scrub it with a yard broom.

Pip's idea of telling me he wants to go out is to stand and stare at me as well. I've got used to it now and can distinguish it from his other 'looks'. I started saying "Do you want to go out?" to him then taking him to the back door and now if he does want to go he cocks his head on one side, then runs to the back door. If he wants something else he just gives me a look that clearly conveys he thinks I must be really thick, until I manage to get the right one!

Sometimes I wonder who trains who in this house! Grin

Lurcherboy never asks to go out, so we have to keep him on a schedule or I'm sure he'd probably explode eventually. He has been known to hide in the bed under the kitchen table of a morning snoozing away and I only find out that he hasn't been out at all when I speak to dh mid-morning. Pip is up and out at 6.30 am every day - including weekends Hmm but has at least decided to accept that we just let him out and go back to bed on Sundays. Grin

moosemama · 16/03/2014 20:07

Oops sorry, thought I'd said ...

Pat she's lovely and very similar colouring to Lurcherboy from what I can see. Is she sort of grey brindle with blonde bits?

How gloriously pointy is Muttonhound! Love those ears too. Grin

PeanutPatty · 16/03/2014 20:13

Thanks Moose. We only use non bio. With the bio is powder or liquid better? Do you use it neat? I will try and pick up some Simple Solutions but I know I can pick up the bio tomorrow for definite iykwim?
