Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I’m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don’t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

Thats the thing isn't it? If they seem to need a coat, put one on them, if they don't like them, don't.

cmotdog (very fine coated) only needs me to hold his Milgi fleece or MeggieMoo jumper up and he comes running and sticks his head through the neck. And is less than keen on their removal. Outdoors, if on the lead he wears a Blizzard coat atm, but when running free or running with me he doesn't need anything

cinnamongreyhound · 10/02/2014 11:09

That's really sweet CMOTDibbler!

Lola loves to cuddle on us and is always trying to get under the covers on our bed but I have started covering her with a fleece at night and she always climbs out Hmm

mistlethrush · 10/02/2014 13:21

How many beds does your dog have? I get a bit Blush about the fact that mistlehound has so many - she has a bed in our bedroom upstairs, one in the hall (from where she can keep an eye on things happening in both kitchen and sitting room at the same time), a smaller, hard plastic basket with a square of duvet in to make it a bit more comfortable in the kitchen (old dog's bed) - she sits in there if more than one of us is cooking or we're eating in the kitchen, and then a fleece cover with a square of duvet on top of the throws covering the sofa - makes the sofa even more snuggly (and is a lot easier to wash than the sofa!) Blush

cinnamongreyhound · 10/02/2014 13:48

They have one each and we just move them upstairs when we go to bed. They pretty much only sleep on them at night, they mostly are on the sofa, lap or our bed! I think if we had more floor space they may have more, but we certainly couldn't fit on in our kitchen.

PeanutPatty · 10/02/2014 15:04

I think we need some sort of soda coverage!

PeanutPatty · 10/02/2014 15:04

Soda??? Sofa.

mistlethrush · 10/02/2014 15:13

We have fleece throws (very cheap from Asda but holding up well to washing) and then she has a fleece cover for a duvet square (see here) - the fleece covers for her 'main' beds are larger - they fit a double duvet folded in quarters.

Can I join? My darling Lurcher died last year after climbing up on a surface and eating onion bhajis and I miss the characteristics so much, have 10 foster dogs in the house (in ME) and have been looking at Lurcher rescues in the UK once they are rehonmed. I miss, bed sleeping, running, whining, knowing exactly what time dinner is due, finding any mud to roll in, allowing cats to luck their bottom, being able to curl up onto a small and impractical place that makes you look silly etc etc

Scuttlebutter · 12/02/2014 20:21

I think there is a formula for bed space for pointies - irrespective of how many beds you provide it will mysteriously be one short for the number of dogs and there will therefore be a pointy nosed drama queen giving you the most heartrending looks of oppressed woe because their special duvet space has been taken. No matter that there are 27 other equally comfortable spaces for them to lie.

Here, there are four Pointy People. There's our bed, a large double in the main guest room, plus a bunk bed in the other spare room. There are two very comfortable sofas (same ones as Cunny has, strangely). Plus, duvet nest in our bedroom, duvet in study, unofficial nest of ironing in bunk bed room, designated "bed" mats in dining room and hall, three duvets in living room. One drama queen has just wandered up to me squeaking.

We ought to buy shares in Ikea considering the number of duvets and fleeces we have bought from there for the pampered darlings. Grin

Hi Theodorus, sorry for your loss And wow at your foster dogs!!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 13/02/2014 07:42

I actually saw Lola worn out this morning Shock they are both fast asleep on their beds!!!!

mistlethrush · 13/02/2014 09:04

I got 'the look' this morning as, apparently, it was TOO COLD to come upstairs to bed last night and madam had to spend THE ENTIRE NIGHT on her fleecy mat on the sofa last night. Its a dog's life!

Theodorus - I'm sorry for your loss - are you coming back to the UK or are you looking to get a lurcher to take out with you? What are your 10 foster dogs?

Gooner123 · 13/02/2014 20:06

Hi pointy people,I've had my little beddy whippet for 2 yrs now (my first dog)we have 2 off lead walks a day where he can run free,& although we're out in the sticks,we do meet the odd dog & he has a blast.
Seeing him with other dogs really makes me think I want another one, this has certain implications for me,as I have a small van & he travels in the front( not room for two hounds)the back of the van is unsuitable.
Besides the financial costs,& my travel arrangements is there anything else I should be considering ?
The next Q. Will be whether to get another beddyx or go for something different mmmm.

mistlethrush · 14/02/2014 09:11

They do curl up small.... My lurcher (not exactly small) manages to sit in the footwell on short journeys. We, at one stage, had two collie crosses who could both sit in the foot well (with a passenger's legs too) - most of our dogs do travel in a car harness on the back seat for longer journeys though.

Dexter looks as though he'll squeeze in to a small spot... Then Astra is a reasonable height but saluki xs always seem to fold up into no space at all.

cinnamongreyhound · 14/02/2014 09:31

Dexter is gorgeous!!

Personally I find having two a bit more hectic Gooner123, the wind each other up a lot and lead walking frustrates me at times but other than that I love it! They are a joy to have together, we had a greyhound and have got a whippet cross so she takes up less space, costs less for pretty much everything. It took quite a bit of getting used to but within a month everyone was pretty much settled with each other. I don't think there's too much more to think about other than holidays, but there are lots of dog friendly places that are happy for you to have more than one dog I have discovered :)

mistlethrush · 14/02/2014 10:19

Yes, I think Dexter would fit in on our sofa pretty easily... however, we really can't afford the cost of having more than one in terms of dog walking etc!

cinnamongreyhound · 14/02/2014 11:32

We've just been out for an extra walk with the kids as it's a pd day and Lola has cut her paw :( she yelp and then sat in the bush! I went to her looked, gave her a fuss and she ran off! I've cleaned it since we got home and it seems to already be knitting well and it's not bleeding anymore so I'm hopeful it will sort itself. She's such a tough nut apart from rain, which luckily started 2 mins after we got in!

moosemama · 14/02/2014 11:55

Hi all. Been off MN sick with the killer flu from hell for two weeks. Today is the first day I've felt up to mnetting.

I have fallen for Dexter as well - such a little sweetheart. Do you think they'd take a cheeky teenager scruffy-pup in part exchange? Grin

We've been saying we need a dominant bitch to take on the matriarchal role and sort our guys out, but we definitely don't want three permanent canine residents again.

Sorry to hear about Lola's paw. Hope it heals quickly.

Gooner123 · 14/02/2014 19:08

Hope Lola's paw heals quick, thanks for advice,I'm sure it would get hectic if I get another loon.
We went out in the rain today & a hare jumped out in front of us,I know I shouldn't enjoy it but it's the only time I see Stan run at full warp speed,as usual it got away & I've got a very worn out boy so it will be zzzz all night.
I've uploaded a pic of him, think you have to click my name.
Dexter looks like a lot of fun too.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/02/2014 13:35

He's a cutie :)

cinnamongreyhound · 15/02/2014 17:34

He's very beddie isn't he Gooner123!

We went for our usual weekend walk in the car and Lola jumped in on the way there are back and wasn't sick! Hoping it's the beginning of better travelling for her, she's been slowly improving and is never sick when we go to my mums anymore. Her paw looks a bit more open but she is walking fine and it isn't bleeding at all. Will keep an eye on it and maybe take her monday if it doesn't look a bit more sealed by then.

I'm sorry you've been poorly again moosemama, you're not very lucky with bugs :(

Dh said to me today that he could imagine having a third Shock. No way I would with minding as it can get manic now with all the kids here if the dogs decide to have a mad 5 mins but I never expected him to even think about it! The trouble is if/when I stop minding it's likely to be to go back to work so another dog will be unlikely then so perhaps when dh retires :)

moosemama · 15/02/2014 17:40

Gooner - he's gorgeous, I can see why you'd be tempted to have another. Smile

Cinnamon, I have underlying health conditions, which means if I catch something I usually get hit pretty hard. Unfortunately, dd has just started school this year and is bringing every single bug that goes around home with her. Mind you, it's been a really bad year at the school bug-wise. Half the staff have been off and apparently the playground was a bit of a ghost town at pick-up last week because so many children are off sick. Even the crossing patrol was off sick by the end of this week. They have flu, noro and chicken-pox all circulating at the same time. The only one we haven't had .... yet, is noro. Currently praying we are excused that particular joy. Hmm

I loved having three dogs and if we had more room I'd definitely do it again. I envisage living somewhere coastal when I retire and walking a huge pack of dogs through the dunes every day. Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 15/02/2014 17:44

Sounds perfect moosemama!

PeanutPatty · 15/02/2014 18:17

I also have a similar dream Moose!
