Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

Difficult to properly get involved in thread at moment as i'm juggling work, a poorly DD and a poorly elderly relative so i'm certainly not being rude if i'm not thanking people for their individual advice - just busy and only snatching minute or two here and there.

I do like the look of this big boy they have matched us with but I am also worried that if I turn around and say i'm sorry he's just too big for me, that it will go against me if another suitable dog comes up Confused

mistlethrush · 03/10/2013 14:40

Tell them that you're worried about his size.

Black dogs are lovely though - and they are so often overlooked.

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 14:42

I expressed a preference for black anyway as she said they were having a harder time rehoming the black ones. Feel a bit pressured to just take the first dog I meet tbh.

mistlethrush · 03/10/2013 14:51

If you're feeling pressured, this is not necessarily the right dog.

Would he be able to come on a day trip and see how he fitted it?

My rescue lurcher was fostered to me whilst we decided whether she was the right dog and we could cope with each other's foibles.

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 15:00

His size doesn't really bother me but my DP is saying he doesn't want a very big dog and in fairness he has said that from the beginning but the rescue are really pushing this dog. I said I couldn't take any dog until 19 October (as that is when I am off work for two weeks) and they were pressuring me to take this one on Saturday!

PeanutPatty · 03/10/2013 15:34

Stick to your guns. Don't be pressured. It's got to be right for both parties.

mistlethrush · 03/10/2013 15:47

Don't go for one you're not comfortable with, and don't be pressurised into getting one earlier than you want. (The rescue we got ours from suggested that we went away and had a think about it, but we had a 20 min family conference in the car and took one of the two we were shown home that day).

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 15:55

Must admit i'm going to feel like an absolute cock saying to them that I feel he's too big. I don't have a valid reason and he ticks every other box but DPs opinion has to count too I suppose and he is adamant he doesn't want a very large dog.

I just know they are going to bump me right down the list now Sad

mistlethrush · 03/10/2013 15:55

If he's the one at the top of their list, I wouldn't go for him. If he's the one at the bottom, I would be much more tempted.

mistlethrush · 03/10/2013 15:55

Find a dog from somewhere else that does tick the boxes then.

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 16:00

I'm going on about this too much aren't I Blush

Back to looking again I think.

cinnamongreyhound · 03/10/2013 16:02

It shouldn't bump you down the list at all. Have you met him? Perhaps you could visit, take him for a walk somewhere away from there so you can put him in the car and get an idea?

That's what we were recommended when we got nelly mistlethrush and she was fine with it and peanut and Lola do share one at times. A double duvet quartered must be huge! But now you've made me feel mean :( we have a fleecy cover from LL for peanut and I've ordered one for Lola but still waiting so she has a duvet cover on hers so far but doesn't dig it up like the greyhounds do!

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 16:15

They want me to meet him this Saturday (and take him same day too!)

cinnamongreyhound · 03/10/2013 19:59

Personally I suggest you meet him and see how dh feels about his size having spent some time with him but definitely don't make any promises about taking him home.

cinnamongreyhound · 03/10/2013 20:01

I also think he may be top of the list because large, black and male are often looked on negatively by a lot of people so he may have been waiting a while but doesn't mean he's not lovely. Just trying to see it from both sides he may actually be the one but if he's not right for you definitely don't take him home there will be others Grin

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 20:19

Me again just back from visiting FIL in hospital.

Had a good chat with the woman who is fostering this perfect but big dog and she certainly has me convinced! She says he isnt as big as his photo suggests and he is a lovely lad to have around the home so with that in mind we are going up on saturday to meet him and take him for a walk and see how we all get on with no pressure from either side.

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 20:23

He isnt top of the list in the way I expressed it. They have others, smaller and somewhat ''cuter'' that she thinks will be rehomed fast but rescue woman thinks that this dog is ideal for us given he is top notch with kids AND other dogs AND small furries. and we arent experienced with greys and this lad is the full package so to speak.

mistlethrush · 03/10/2013 20:26

He could be just the right one....

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 20:27

She sent ne a photo of his big goofy face Grin hes a proper looker

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 21:45

This is the big goofy bugger Grin

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 21:45

Oh well my smile didn't work but my link did Grin

mistlethrush · 03/10/2013 21:49

You'll have to get good at clearing your kitchen counters and not leaving anything around with him there!

cinnamongreyhound · 03/10/2013 21:53

He's gorgeous! Mine is upside down on the sofa now and Lola is squeezed next to dh and I on the other one and one dog bed is occupied by a cat Grin

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 21:58

mistlethrush no issues there, i have OCD so im very tidy! poor DD can't leave a hair elastic out without me tidying it up. Trying to be quite 'hard' and leave my heart out of this but must admit even tho' he looks like a dopey beggar i've fallen for his big brown eyes already!

TooOldForGlitter · 03/10/2013 22:00

i'm told he's lost near 6lbs since that photo was taken at start of september.
