Bloody dog just bit dh on the face.

I'm in bits, I really thought things were getting better.

We've done everything, behaviourist, etc. only had the dog since May and he's been aggressive since we got him home. Initially with me and dh, now he's fine with me but still nips dh. Though its always been on the back of the leg before. Dog has always been fine with dd, always.

Dh bent down to pick a Pringles tube up off the floor and says the dog just launched himself at dh. I didn't see it happen, dh is dripping blood.

My head tells me this is the end of the road for the dog.

You know she's advertising puppies right now, don't you? How is it that you can't get in contact? Is she ignoring telephone calls/emails?

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2013 13:53

I do suspect the dog had been sold and returned previously to us getting him.

As we were getting in the car and she warned me to be careful of him round dh alarm bells were ringing. But we'd paid and were literally buckling seat belts on. So I dismissed it thinking I was been daft, when the dog seemed so sweet curled up next to dd.

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2013 13:54

She's ignoring emails and I left a message which hasn't been returned.

I'm sure if I kept ringing I'd eventually get hold of her hut for what purpose? I wouldn't want her to take him back and to be honest I'd think it would descend quite rapidly into a slanging match.

The bloke today said she's turned into a puppy farm. He cant go back to her.

Viva, is it possible that she's blocked your number? I've just spoken to her.....

lougle · 30/08/2013 14:02

That sounds really stalkerish. I was just pondering that if I had puppies for sale at the rate she does, I'd be answering that phone pretty quickly. So I called the landline number and she's just answered. She has 4 bitches ready to go, 3 just went in the last few days and she has another pregnant bitch giving birth in a while.

That got me thinking that perhaps she's screening your call?

Methe · 30/08/2013 14:10

How many breeding dogs has she got?

lougle · 30/08/2013 14:19

No idea. I know that she said she had one set ready to go (4 girls) with 3 already gone and another who was pregnant at the moment so wouldn't be ready for a while.

Let's put it this way, when I said 'how many have you got?' she said 'mmmm...wait a minute....oh wait....sorry I've just had 3 go in the last few days, it's hard to keep track.' Hmm

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/08/2013 14:31

She also breeds border terriers and petit basset griffon vendienes (sp?)

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2013 14:32

I used the landline, but it was a couple of months ago.

I really don't see the point in ringing and talking to her again now.

I've just been speaking to a nice lady from the Northern Podengo group and she's told me various things. The breeder I got mine from told me that she'd taken my dog to a show which he'd won and that she'd done stuff with him. This woman just said that's a lie as she hasn't been at any show for over a year.

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2013 14:34

She is a total puppy farm and I fell for it. I specifically asked her over the phone if the puppies were kept in the house when I first talked to her and she said yes. But I don't think she does and the people I've spoken to today said they're all kept in barns/kennels.

tabulahrasa · 30/08/2013 14:37

In the articles about the KC complaint she registered 21 litters in 2011...bearing in mind she didn't register the OP's one, I'm guessing that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Methe · 30/08/2013 14:37

Might be worth speaking to the kennel club? (And prehaps HMRC)

LesserSpottedNeckSnake · 30/08/2013 14:40

Bloody hell. She sounds like a right piece of work Shock And this isn't against the law?!

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2013 14:40

Kennel club won't do anything. Anyone can register KC puppies as long as the mum and dad are KC registered and the bitch doesn't have more than one litter a year.

She's complying with KC regs and is licensed by the council.

Really makes you realise that KC isn't worth all that much.

If you decide to try one more time give this lady a call:
www.bestfriendsonline.co.uk/
As far as I know she is willing to travel, she is very knowledgeable and if she can't help she can at least tell you whether it is sensible to rehome or whether it is more responsible to PTS.

GrimmaTheNome · 30/08/2013 14:52

I just took a look at the guidelines on breeders' licensing here - there really isn't anything there which does much to prevent puppy farming and promote welfare.
'?A control on the age a bitch can be breed at and the number of litters that she can produce in her lifetime;
?A minimum age that a pup can leave the breeder;
?The need for breeding establishments to maintain records and introduce written socialisation and enrichment statements for approval by the Council

No limit on the number of bitches. No requirement to perform breed-appropriate health checks.
WTF is the use of a 'written socialisation and enrichment statement'? Hmm

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2013 15:59

I suppose there's a possibility that she's sneaking in extra unregistered litters and so gets round the "total litters in a lifetime rule"

If she doesn't tell the KC aout the unregistered litters then how are they to know?

I will email them as I have our dogs pedigree so if she's sneaked in an extra litter with his mum then maybe that could be proof?

How much did he cost? Id be looking into legal action if she has lied to you (prizes won, and his housing upbringing) because shes misrepresented him massively. Even if only to try to stop her doing this in the future. Other people will assume she is credible and continue to buy from her unless they are made aware of her puppy farming. You thought you were buying from a good breeder and she is clearly far from that. Id speak to the local paper too, and whereever shes advertsing, just to try to raise awareness. If people dont buy from her, she wont keep breeding like this.

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2013 16:18

But it was all verbal. I have nothing in writing saying that he'd won prizes, etc.

She'd lie about it I'm sure.

someone sent me this after I got the dog

I never found it before as I only ever googled the name of her kennels, not her actual name. It doesn't come up when you google her kennel/breeder name.

'BREEDER and exhibitor Betty Judge (Plushcourt) has been warned, censured and fined £1,000 for producing false paperwork relating to four Portuguese Podengos. The complaint against Mrs Judge, who breeds Podengos, Border Terriers and Petits Bassets Griffons Vendéens, was that she had behaved discreditably or prejudicially to the interests of the canine world in that on or around November 3, 2008, in support of her claim to maintain endorsements under regulation B12 in respect of four dogs sold to Janet and John Tiranti (Garthfield), she submitted four contracts to the KC and represented to the KC that Mrs Tiranti had signed the contracts knowing that that representation was false, or being reckless as to its truth, or failing to show due care and consideration as to its truth. - See more at: www.dogworld.co.uk/product.php/55910/News/48-Front-Cover-(1)#sthash.jREV5JNa.dpuf '

MN often gets high google rating, wonder if that will do it...

mrslaughan · 30/08/2013 18:53

Yes but based in what has happened on the tack room , MN HQ will just delete it

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2013 18:56

Dunno why they would. It was published in a national dog magazine so its hardly untrue.

OP posts:
LesserSpottedNeckSnake · 30/08/2013 18:58

What happened in the tack room?

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2013 19:13

There was a thread there a bit ago about a specific seller of cobs who was widely thought to be a liar about how safe andsteady her cobs were. That thread was deleted so maybe MrsLaughan was referring to that?
