Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

Peanut, you will inevitably get a few marking incidents during the first few days - all our own and foster males have done this, but once they've done one or two, it's usually OK. Grin Just be on standy with plenty of cleaning products. I'd be more worried about a double dose of greyhound bottom gas!

moosemama · 21/08/2013 09:04

You're right cinnamon. I remembered it's in Ireland that dogs have to be restrained by law. I have a friend who was pullled over and fined by the Gardai for having her JRT unrestrained on the front passenger seat, even though the dog wasn't interfering with her driving at all.

The only time one of my male dogs scent marked in the house was when my Soft Coated Wheaten bitch started it. Hmm She was a very 'male' bitch and scent marked both in the house and on walks, as well as displaying other 'male' behaviour traits. She came from a big litter (11) and was one of only 3 females. Vet reckoned she was exposed to high levels of testosterone in the womb and that explained her behaviour. Apparently their have been a few studies that confirm this theory since then.

Then again, all my males have come to me as pups, not adults and I have no experience of adult, male rescues.

Peanuts collars

So lovely sitting here now, youngest 3 sleeping, eldest 2 kids playing wii and I've got Peanuts head in my lap while he's fast asleep next to me on the sofa, lovely :)

Scuttlebutter · 21/08/2013 15:37

Fabulous collars, lucky Peanut Smile

moosemama · 21/08/2013 16:16

Ooo cinnamon they're gorgeous, he's going to look stunning in those. Smile

Sounds like a perfect afternoon.

My backside has hardly hit a chair today until now, with Pip constantly on the go and the Vet messing me about not having the antibiotics when I went to collect them - twice! Then informing me the bill, which I was expecting to be just for the antibiotics, was a princely £105! Shock Even the receptionist nearly fell off her chair.

She went through it with me and it turned out the vet had sent his samples to an external lab. She didn't tell me she was doing this and as our vets have their own lab, I was expecting them to do it. Needless to say, I was more than a bit Angry. Lovely receptionist was just as cross and suggested I pay half now and half after pay day. They don't usually do that, but she was as outraged as I was about it all.

Then to cap it all ds2 has a vomiting virus. Apparently totally unrelated to Pip's Campylobacter, as it has all the wrong symptoms.

So I've been legging it between him upstairs and Pip downstairs, constantly swathed in a cloud of disinfectant and carrying rubber gloves, antibacterial wipes, antibacterial hand gel etc.

Oh the joy ....

cinnamongreyhound · 21/08/2013 16:23

Not an ideal day at all then moosemama!!! Hope ds2 is well too! Totally used to being ripped off by vets, one of my cats has a suspected thyroid problem, blood test alone was £93 :(

Hello all, room for a little one?

I am currently playing on phone on sofa with Maggie dog squashed right up my legs and her head on my knee. Maggie is a 2 year old red brindle whippet who has been with us since she was 6 months old.

She's sulking a little as her bedding is in the tumble dryer and she has had a bath due to a foxpoo incident on our lunch time walk. She keeps listening for DP car to come so she can tell tales on me.

She's also moulting like mad so my black leggings will be covered in spikey hairs that won't brush off.

moosemama · 21/08/2013 16:43

Hello froubylou. Maggie sounds lovely. Lurcherboy always sulks when I wash his bedding as well.

He is light/blonde brindle, so his hairs show up whether I'm wearing light or dark clothes. Hmm

Took some lovely photos of Pip curled up in Lurcherboy's bed with him this morning. Dh said he was sooo tired and sat in front of Lurcherboy wobbling, with his head drooping then decided to go for it, climbed in and curled up around and half on top of his back. Too cute! Can't upload them yet, as dh has the usb cable, but will when I get a chance.

Lurcherboy has finally decided Pip isn't so bad and if he's staying he'd better start showing him the ropes. So, if Pip goes out, Lurcherboy gets up looking concerned and then escorts him round the garden. The look like little and large patrolling the perimeter together with Pip copying every move Lurcherboy makes. It's like Lurcherboy is saying: "Right young'un this is how we do it. First we follow the fence on the right hand side all the way to the top of the garden. The we check if there are any dogs in the park to bark at, if not we peruse the perimeter of the whole garden for possible signs of intruders, then proceed to the dip in the right handside of the lawn and lie down for a sunbathe. Got that? Good." Grin

Quick question for you lovely people - is it OK to go out for a couple of hours and leave them muzzled? They couldn't hurt themselves in any way?

I posted a few days ago about a foster I am struggling with, and the rescue are going to move him, but they're still looking for somewhere suitable. He's been OK with being left up until now. But today I came home after being out for about 3 hours and he had knocked holes in the wall and chewed the door frame! (Think I have now well and truly blown any chance I had with dh of having any more dogs after this one has gone).

Bubblepuppy · 21/08/2013 17:06

Should say he is ex racer and used to being muzzled. I'm just wondering if there's any reason I haven't thought of why they can't be unsupervised and muzzled?

cinnamongreyhound · 21/08/2013 17:13

I have cats so mine where muzzled when left alone at first for the safety of my cats, no problems at all.

Hi froubylou and Maggie (my mums name :))

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/08/2013 17:13

On the back window of a people carrier type car.

My window isn't dirty, it's the greyhounds Nose Art Grin

Just imagining the shiney wet pointed nose of a greyhound pressed up against the window as it people watches. And judges them for eating when he's not Wink

Bubblepuppy · 21/08/2013 17:53

Thanks cinnamon!

moosemama · 21/08/2013 18:09

70isaLimit, that's really funny. You can imagine them all creating their artwork as they head off on their travels. Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 21/08/2013 21:13

Strangely I saw the same the weekend but it said my dogs artwork not greyhounds. Lovely sentiment :)

PeanutPatty · 22/08/2013 18:03

I've seen a rescue I like. But it's a pup. I'm off my rocker. I've not applied yet. I'd be crazy.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/08/2013 21:12

Had our homecheck today and the lady was lovely! She was suggesting dogs that may be right for us and also said that if we find a dog within several other rescues the homecheck will be honoured as LL is well respected. She loved Peanut and got lots of fuss! I assume from her reaction that she was happy for us to have a dog but I guess she doesn't have the final say. It's also interesting that she knew all the dogs I'd commented on the the forum as being interested in. She said she thought Pie would be good for us but felt we should go for 3-4 year old bitch and she suggested a bull x.

She also agreed with me about not having another big dog just because of floor space but dh said he doesn't seethe difference between a dog 23tts and one 29tts. He's got his eye on Pie, here we go again!!

PeanutPatty · 22/08/2013 21:17

Had a quick nose at Pie. He's bloody lovely. Grin

froubylou · 22/08/2013 21:35

Lurcherboy sounds lovely bless him. We have a pony that takes all the weanling foals under her wing like that. She is really very bossy with them but they all adore her and woe betide anyone who picks on her baby lol.

Only problem we have at min is her last weanling is now twice her size but still tries to hide behind her lol. She doesn't fit but we don't have the heart to tell her.

Maggie in the bad books today lol. Yesterday she foundfox poo and rolled. Hence bath and full bed wash. TThis morning the dirty beastie headed straight for it and rolled again. Grrr.

Got in and my phone rang. Stood next to her bed still on lead and while I was distracted rolled in her bed.

So all back in wash and Maggie has had another bath.

Bleurgh

cinnamongreyhound · 22/08/2013 21:43

Had to laugh froubylou!!

She also said that any cat friendly lurchers and highly sought after so we might have a wait :( she said Lola would be perfect but she thinks she's already on her way to a family. She advised against Tess as she's too young. She suggested we looked in greyhound gap too but every dog they have that's cat safe/workable says they shoul be homed with children 4 or 6+ :(. I remember a while ago someone mentioning Huey and Luey and they are still there, they're a bit young but gorgeous!

PeanutPatty · 22/08/2013 21:44

I blooming hate Fox poo. Nasty nasty stench. The dog gets hose when she appears covered in it.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/08/2013 21:45

Nelly only rolled in fox poo once and peanut hasn't so far, it is really awful!

cinnamongreyhound · 22/08/2013 21:52

And yes you are crazy peanutpatty but then as cute as they are I wouldn't get a puppy my life is too busy! Kittens are hard work and puppies are a million times harder, not quite as hard a children but I they are gorgeous little parts of me so they're excused!

PeanutPatty · 22/08/2013 21:59

Cinnamon I am sitting on my hands so as not to call up. I'd be tied to the house with a puppy and with two small DC that is uber stress right there.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/08/2013 22:03

It's not the tied to the house that would bother me its the poo, wee, sleepless nights, chewed everything (including children) and training.
