My dog got his arse kicked by a cat this morning

Walking the youngest to school, and came around a corner to meet a cat sat outside its gate. They stopped, both looked at each other, and then the cat went apeshit. It scratched at his face, and then when he turned around to flee, attached itself to his arse. All four claws were clinging on to his rear, think baby monkey being carried through the forest. The dog howled. The cat hissed. I made a pathetic 'Waaaaah!' kind of noise. The dog shook his arse and dislodged the evil feline. And then dripped blood all the way to school, like a horror movie victim. And there was I worrying that he might catch and hurt a cat Hmm

Are you sure it was a cat and not the 'Essex Lion' Grin

Hope doggy is ok .

PippasArse · 17/09/2012 12:04

aww poor doggy

well I dont think he will try and catch a cat ever now so at least you can stop worrying about that

hope your pooch is ok now

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 17/09/2012 12:04

Oh, he's fine. Just a bit scratched. I think his ego is wounded, though. I have no real experience of cats. Do they usually go mental like that?

my cat used to do that but only to dogs on lead Hmm

hope dog is ok let him off next time and see who wins Grin

SummerRain · 17/09/2012 12:05

That might have been my cat Blush

She hunts foxes for sport....

Beamur · 17/09/2012 12:07

I think many dogs come off worse when a cat squares up to them!

SummerRain · 17/09/2012 12:09

And yes... most cats will stand up to a dogs and the dog nearly always ends up on the losing side.

My friend has a rottie, a st bernard and a shitzhu and last week got two kittens. By day two the kittens had already beaten up one of the dogs and were strolling around with no fear whatsoever.

I've seen an 8 week old kitten stand against a large aggressive dog and it was the dog that backed away.

I love cats.... equal parts fluffy cuteness and murderous assassin Grin

OatyBeatie · 17/09/2012 12:12

My dog was attacked by a cat a while ago, too. I'd put him on the lead when I saw her, so that he couldn't attack her, but she obv didn't understand that she was safe from him, so she launched herself on him like a dog-seeking missile. (She didn't do the arse-clinging though.)

It so happened that a few weeks later we met another cat in the woods, so suddenly that I didn't have time to put him on lead. He chased her, caught right up with her, then plainly had an "oh fuck" moment when he realised he didn't actually want to risk contact. He slowed down til she was out of reach, and he and I pretended she was faster than him, to preserve his dignity.

BrianCoxIsUpTheDuff · 17/09/2012 12:12

I have a dog and 2 cats.

The cats rule the roost.

Next door but one neighbour has a 1 year old cat, she is best friends with my 1 year old cat. She also rules the dog. My dog does not know when to turn and run so usually ends up with a face full of hissing tortie fury Grin

Dogs are a bit dense when it comes to cats IMO.

Beamur · 17/09/2012 12:14

OatyBeatie that's funny - my dog does exactly the same! Chases but then panicks a bit if she gets close and then slows down. If a cat even looks as if it's going to stand it's grown my dog will pretend not to have noticed it at all.

batteryhen · 17/09/2012 12:18

My dog daren't even look at the cat without getting a mouth full of abuse. He is desperate to be her friend but she can't stand the sight of him. If he walks past a chair she is sat on he will get swiped and hissed at without even knowing she was there :)

catsrus · 17/09/2012 16:16

my older dog is fine with cats in the house but chases them outdoors, she cornered one of my more confident cats this morning, oops, the cat' sister was just on the other side of a gate, within paw strike. Dog had a go at cat as I ran shouting towards them, cat1 stood her ground and went for dog's face - as dog backed away cat2 swiped her through the gate. Dog retreated with bloody nose, literally.

The annoying thing is that this cat and this dog are quite affectionate towards each other in the house though I think it might be an act put on when I'm watching

she's the first dog I've had with such a strong prey drive - cats, birds on the lawn, . The cats can definitely handle themselves!

MrsGeologist · 17/09/2012 16:24

Oh no, hope your dog is ok.

Did he get bitten? I only ask, because my cat has been bitten by another cat, and it got infected, so it's always good to keep an eye on the wounds.

OatyBeatie · 17/09/2012 16:31

It is reassuring to hear all these tales of tough cats standing up for themselves. My dog will chase cats and I would really HATE to think of a cat ever coming to harm at his hands. He has had a few educational encounters of the nose-swipe variety, mostly in puppyhood, reinforced by the fairly substantial attack this year. And it is good to get the impression from this thread that he stands a chance of more bloody noses if he ever does risk another chase.

bamboobutton · 17/09/2012 16:38

I saw a staffie get cat scratched and hissed at today, poor dog ran off looking a bit confused. I don't think the cat appreciated having its bottom sniffedGrin

ratbagcatbag · 17/09/2012 16:44

My cat lurves dogs and walks up to them tail
In the air saying hello, doesn't half confuse the dogs on the street. :)

TheGOLDCunnyFunt · 17/09/2012 19:51

I used to walk a dog for one of my mums neighbours, a gorgeous Springer Spaniel. He sniffed at a cat once and it bopped him on the nose :o no claws. Just a bop! I have never seen such a surprised expression on a dogs face since then :o

Lonecatwithkitten · 17/09/2012 21:06

I must have been my posh arrogant boy he loves to beat a dog up in the mornings. I have seen a lot of angry cats, but he takes some beating.

Ullena · 18/09/2012 15:20

Oh dear, ours are like this! Sorry, it wasn't a fluffy black and white thing, was it, OP? Honestly, even our collie knows that he may only herd them on their terms, lol!

LtEveDallas · 18/09/2012 15:31

MuttDog was beaten to a pulp by MILs Evil Bundle of Fluff and has been wary of all cats ever since.

Growing up my cat was the scourge of the street - ALL the dogs were scared of her. She'd saunter past, head held high, whilst they cowered in her presence!

TheGOLDCunnyFunt · 18/09/2012 15:57

My grandma used to have a border collie and a cat. Inside the house the cat was boss, the BC never got too close if she could help it, walking in wide circles aroud the cat etc. Outside the dog was boss and would chase the cat up a tree :o

CMOTDibbler · 18/09/2012 16:08

My big ginger boy cat chases dogs. Those on lead, get a whole lot of attitude as he marches up to them to abuse them, those off lead run up to him as he casually washes, then get a face full of cat.

Beamur · 18/09/2012 16:40

Just to put a downer on an otherwise lighthearted thread - it doesn't always end well for cats. A friend has just had to return a newly placed rescue greyhound after it killed their neighbours cat..

SummerRain · 18/09/2012 16:47

True Beamur... there's a nasty lab that's left running loose in my area and he has gotten hold of one of my cats before. Thank god I was outside and pulled him off as he had his jaws clamped onto her and would have killed her.

Like I said.... 9 times out of 10 the cat wins; however if the cat doesn't manage to put the fear of god into the dog it's at a serious disadvantage size wise.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 18/09/2012 16:53

I've heard of a few cat munching greyhounds. My cousin's chihuahua was badly injured by a grey at the park. The grey picked it up and shook it, and he had to have extensive surgery. I suppose they've been bred to chase and catch small furries.
