Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound).

Jake
I didn?t really want you,
I wasn?t really sure,
And I?ll admit I had my doubts,
When you first came through that door.

Not small, or cute, or fluffy,
With big, soft puppy eyes,
But tall, and thin, and bony,
With bald, pink, bulging thighs.

You weren?t the kind I had in mind,
Not in any way,
?Perhaps it would be better if I took you back today,
Before we know each other,
It really won?t be kind,
To keep you here for one more day,
And then to change my mind.?

But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay,
And quickly I discovered you were kind in every way,
Your gentleness and patience, they really stole the show,
?Why these dogs are wonderful, I must let others know!?

For you?re my gentle giant,
Who just needed the chance,
To show us all what you could be,
To wipe away that history,
And dispel our preconceptions, which put us all to shame,
And so we come to know and love,
What lies beneath that frame.

And now I?ve come to understand,
What I missed right at the start,
That greyhounds need that great deep chest,
To house their great big hearts!

Well, we still have a swollen looking whippet this morning, but a breakfast of raw beef has gone down well with both. At least he actually looks like a whippet today and not a black lab.

CMOTDibbler · 01/11/2012 10:36

Oh, bless him. Eurk on the wrappers though.

I will post pictures soon - today it is manky here, so outside he's in his thick waterproof as he does need to gain a little weight. DH sent me pictures when I was away of him in his american style fleece, but they aren't very good

I hope you enjoy Berlin Lock- I am very fond of it there

MagratGarlik · 01/11/2012 10:51

Yes, we need pictures, CMOT. Needing a 32" coat he must be massive next to my two (who are 20" and 22").

Met a woman the other day walking 5 Saluki's and a JRT. Guess which was the most vocal dog of the lot?

TheCunnyFuntWearingAPoppy · 01/11/2012 11:52

Bloody hell Magrat! I hope he recovers soon, poor chap.

Lock the trick or treating sounds fab, with bat-dog Sam :o
Enjoy Berlin.

mistlethrush · 01/11/2012 13:52

We went out for a walk around the roads during peak trick or treating time yesterday evening - next year ds is going to dress up as a werewolf and take the dog (providing we still have her) - she would make a good werewolf, albeit rather a funny colour one.

Hope Woody's OK Magrat - sounds similar to my allergic reaction to chocolate Blush

TheCunnyFuntWearingAPoppy · 01/11/2012 14:56

I think when DD is big enough to go trick or treating we'll take Sprocket and he can be The Hound of The Baskervilles :o or I'll get him one of those 'arrow through the head' things and put it on his neck, or maybe a carving knife. Or he could be a mummy! I could wrap him up in dirty, bloody bandages :o

mistle what colour is she?

TheCunnyFuntWearingAPoppy · 01/11/2012 14:58

OR!!! I could get him an arrow thingy AND wrap him in dirty, bloodied bandages! Ohhh I'm really excited now :( I want hallowe'en again!!

MagratGarlik · 01/11/2012 15:17

Mistle, I assume you just mean the eating too much chocolate and swelling up bit - yes, it has that effect on me too.

Thankfully the swelling is mostly gone now - he just looks a bit jowly. He has to take antihistamines for he next few days though.

Next year I'm banning Halloween. Stupid chocolate - we never usually have it in the house owing to ds2's dairy allergy.

mistlethrush · 01/11/2012 18:14

Magrat - no, I'm allergic to it and that's one of the side effects!

She's 'red' but rough coated and there's a bit of blonde on the long haired bit - and a dark muzzle. Does the dark muzzle come from saluki ancestry or bedlington?

TheCunnyFuntWearingAPoppy · 01/11/2012 18:26

Sounds like brilliant werewolf colouring to me! :)

MagratGarlik · 01/11/2012 18:49

Sounds like the type of werewolf colouring I imagine Terry Pratchett's Angua would be.

mistlethrush · 01/11/2012 19:52

Now you come to mention it, yes, I think that she would be perfect as that... I just generally think more of the grey lurchery types for the 'normal' werewolf colouring.

CMOTDibbler · 01/11/2012 20:02

She does sound like an Angua - I think she is described as being blonde when in wolf form as well as human

mistlethrush · 02/11/2012 08:43

For a short time only, picture on my profile.

CMOTDibbler · 02/11/2012 09:17

Awwww, pretty girl [simle]

TheCunnyFuntWearingAPoppy · 02/11/2012 09:25

She's gorgeous! And I love those cakes!

mistlethrush · 02/11/2012 09:53

Blush re the cakes - I only do them for DS's birthdays - but he seems to like them.

We weren't sure whether she fitted into the basket as it was our last dog's - but she proved that she did with some spare room!

TheCunnyFuntWearingAPoppy · 02/11/2012 10:26

Well they're brilliant! I can't decorate cakes to save my life! :( they tend to end up looking like a 5yo has done it :o

mistlethrush · 02/11/2012 11:29

Oooh btw we had progress last night - she actually indicated she wanted to go out (bounced on the kitchen door - not ideal, but as she's hardly vocal at all, one way) - and then we had a sucessful trip down the garden. Pity about the wee on the mat when DH was out (I'm sure it is SA) and then the poo where the mat should have been this morning as I asked DS to keep an eye on her and take her out but he couldn't get her to come.... (I was in the loo as I'd already taken her down the garden with my legs crossed then fed her her breakfast!)

TheCunnyFuntWearingAPoppy · 02/11/2012 11:58

Ooh that is good progress! She'll soon have the hang of it :)

Scuttle I keep forgetting to tell you, at the meet and greet on saturday there was a gorgeous blue greyhound girl that I imagine would've made firm friends with Norty Minx, she randomly jumps up in the air, she did it loads! And she stole stock off the stall :o

sooperdooper · 02/11/2012 14:36

CMOTDibbler - our Davey dog had to have a 32'' coat too! Grin

He's started being quite vocal lately, which he never used to do, if we're sitting on the sofa and not giving him enough fuss (in his opinion), he kinda starts doing a funnt low moany growly noise, not loud or barking, and if you give him a scratch behind the ears he stops!

MissBetseyTrotwood · 02/11/2012 15:00

Another 32" chap here! Big ol' softy tho. They're longer than you think! Imagine how long plus tail!

Proudly sporting his DAP collar now for a few days. He looks as though he's got one of those ASBO tags and has to be home by 6 or the police will come knocking.

She's a beauty mistlethrush - so cute all curled up!

Lock I hope Berlin is OK for you all. DH works there a lot (there's a big scene for his music out there) and I've done a WAG trip with him a few times. It's a great time of year to visit too - not too cold but just chilly enough for the cafes and bars to be cosy and lovely. We're all fine thanks - and give that cheeky Sam a cuddle from us. DH was chatting about you all the other day and just saying as you did - how useful the DCs will be when they're teens!!

I'm going to try not to be on MN for a while - too much work to do for uni - but I'll be popping my head around the door in a bit! And I'll be over on FB too.

xx

MagratGarlik · 02/11/2012 18:14

What a pretty girl, Mistle! (and another one also in awe of the cake. Mine taste OK but tend to look fairly unimpressive).

Betsey, doesn't time spent on MN tend to increase in direct proportion to the amount of outstanding work there is still to do? That's usually the way it works for me. If I have deadlines to meet, I'll spend twice the time on MN and/or the house will be extra super-clean Smile.

mistlethrush · 02/11/2012 19:24

I've taken the afternoon off to go and pick up the car - and stopped off at Argos and Petsathome and now have a dog gate and a DAP diffuser. The diffuser is right by the basket - which she's now in and out of when we're in the kitchen - and she took a big whiff of it earlier and has been SO settled on the sofa since - even when DH went to sort DS's bedtime, she heard him get up and realised he'd gone out and lay back down.... [fingers crossed]

TheCunnyFuntWearingAPoppy · 03/11/2012 19:10

I hope everyones hounds aren't too worried tonight, Sprocket seems ok so far and there's fireworks going off quite near us.
