Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound).

I didn?t really want you,
I wasn?t really sure,
And I?ll admit I had my doubts,
When you first came through that door.

Not small, or cute, or fluffy,
With big, soft puppy eyes,
But tall, and thin, and bony,
With bald, pink, bulging thighs.

You weren?t the kind I had in mind,
Not in any way,
?Perhaps it would be better if I took you back today,
Before we know each other,
It really won?t be kind,
To keep you here for one more day,
And then to change my mind.?

But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay,
And quickly I discovered you were kind in every way,
Your gentleness and patience, they really stole the show,
?Why these dogs are wonderful, I must let others know!?

For you?re my gentle giant,
Who just needed the chance,
To show us all what you could be,
To wipe away that history,
And dispel our preconceptions, which put us all to shame,
And so we come to know and love,
What lies beneath that frame.

And now I?ve come to understand,
What I missed right at the start,
That greyhounds need that great deep chest,
To house their great big hearts!

Just general hello, puppy excitement, hurrah for new dogs, extra big hurrah for your cousin. Grin

Got an 'informal chat' at a local school about a very part time job on Wednesday. Billy might have to make do with a dog walker 2 mornings a week. If I get it! Unlikely as I've been out for so long.

Do you think fireworks and the tension they cause could be giving Billy upset tummy?

TheCunnyFuntOfEastwick · 22/10/2012 18:40

They might do Betsey, stress can cause dicky tummys can't it? So if there are fireworks going off he could be stressed out hence the dicky tummy.

He hasn't managed to snaffle something that he shouldn't has he?

TheCunnyFuntOfEastwick · 22/10/2012 18:45

Oh and hope your 'informal chat' goes well, fingers crossed you get the job :)

MissBetseyTrotwood · 22/10/2012 21:58

Ha ha, we have been very, very careful since the recent spate of robberies! He's fine in himself - had a very doggy, springy, ears pricky sort of walk this morning. Couple of suicidal squirrels, you know the drill. Grin

Is MN very very slow at the moment or is it me? I have to hit reload a couple of times before each page loads. Even more time frittered away when I could be ironing or something!

Hi all - just popping in briefly - RL is hectic atm. However, just wanted to say we took the dogs out on saturday and met a lovely couple with two retired greyhounds (black) and two beddlington terriers (I love those). They loved Jessie's coat and were asking where we bought it, so you got a recommendation, Scuttle.

Must say, both ours (even Jessie who is cumbersome next to Woody) look positively petite next to real greyhounds. It was so lovely to have a doogy encounter where all dogs are calm and relaxed though.

Welcome, to all the new oweners too! Careful though -soon you will become addicted! (says the woman, who pre-whippetty said, "I don't understand why people feel the need for more than one dog" -oops!)

Scuttlebutter · 23/10/2012 19:43

Well, we've had some excitement - Mick decided to end up in the pond. I think he was after a frog - we've lots in the garden and they've been sitting out by the pond croaking quite happily - I love listening to them. Anyway he went out and started rummaging and the next thing I knew he was in the water. Shock
It's very deep there (around 5ft) but I managed to haul him out, looking very soggy but pleased with himself. Hmm

Of course I had cleaned the house this afternoon. So the lovely clean floor got covered in wet muddy footprints then he had a good shake and is now upside down on the sofa drowsing contentedly while stinking of pondweed. Hmmmm.

Thank you for the recommendation Magrat!

Things are going well - the Christmas stockings are being embroidered and you will be seeing them on FB/the website very soon. They look lovely - I am so excited about them. Blush

MissBetseyTrotwood · 23/10/2012 21:00

Swampthing. Grin

DH has had some workmates around tonight for a meeting. (I was meant to be at uni and him doing the boys but I came home early for my work chat tomo.) Billy's been shmoozing them. They're in the front room listening to their new stuff and Billy's farting on them all.

I'm in the kitchen with Radio 4 and a cup of Rosehip tea. Why doesn't he want to listen to Inside Health with me? Confused Grin

rachmultiplemum · 23/10/2012 21:22

Evening all. I've just had to write a letter to one of my sons teachers as the foster pup has eaten his homework Smile i wonder whether she will believe me......

We have now had 15 fosters through my door, and a few pups, you would think that my kids would learn to put things away by now, but no they haven't.

Scuttlebutter · 23/10/2012 22:02

Ah, the old "The dog ate my homework" Excellent Grin Grin

Betsey, it's a man thing. They are probably all having a Blazing Saddles stylee farting contest and impressed by Billy's talents in that area.

Rosehip tea is just too girly by comparison. Wink

MissBetseyTrotwood · 24/10/2012 07:25

Gah, first aid advice needed. I think he must have been so excited by his boys evening yesterday that he pegged it outside and has taken a chunk out of his back left thigh, the fleshy part. It looked clean when he did it and it's not too deep, more as though he's skinned it iykwim. I've been cleaning it with boiled cooled salt water and cotton wool and he's been very brave. Any recs? I'd treat it as I'd treat one on the kids and keep it clean and open - is this right?

Scuttlebutter · 24/10/2012 09:45

Oh dear. Hope His Lordship is being very brave. So far, you've done exactly what I'd do - sounds like the sort of thing Andy is always doing. If it's a nice open "skinned" cut, I work on the basis that anything up to the size of a 50 p piece is not a vet matter - obviously, we watch like hawks though for any sign of infection, pain etc.

If it was a deeper, more "enclosed" cut then I might take to vet, mainly for some ABs but I've got much more relaxed about open cuts over the years - what you're describing doesn't sound as though it needs to be stitched or glued. Some greyhound owners get a small stock of ABs in from the internet and just use those ad hoc after injuries - tis v common for working lurchers, greys and terriers - this is not official best practice as you aren't supposed to get hold of ABs without vet prescription but it does go on.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 24/10/2012 10:34

It hasn't actually bled - it's as though he's just skinned himself. It's about the size of a very large almond.

He is being brave! I have been muzzling him when I bathe it though. He had a snap at me when I cleaned it out the first time, and I don't blame him it must sting a LOT!

Ta Scuttle. I'm quite surprised he's done something so actiony!

TheCunnyFuntOfEastwick · 24/10/2012 16:15

I hope Mick smells a bit better today Scuttle, what is it with your pond? :o
Can't wait to see the stockings, I bet they're fab!
How is Norty Minx recuperating? Back up to her norty tricks again yet?

Poor Billy, he's not having much luck at the moment is he? Were DHs workmates all impressed with his farting skills?

Sprocket has surprised us somewhat. He now prefers to sleep downstairs at night! He's slept downstairs for about a week now! I give him the option at bedtime but he chooses his duvet at the bottom of the stairs. He also stays on his bed all night Shock and he leaves the sofa alone! Shock Shock

Scuttlebutter · 24/10/2012 20:16

Betsey, perhaps he's heard from Andy about how Chicks Love Scars and wanted a few to go with his aristocratic charm and good looks [hwink]

Yes, Cunny, I wish I knew!! Perhaps our greyhounds have a secret fetish for pondweed or something.

Norty is in great shape - we've been struggling in fact as she has completely failed to read the memo about convalescing and recuperation. She is booked in for her post-op check up on Friday afternoon and I think that's when the stitches come out. She is bouncing around like a lunatic and is frustrated because I am a cruel mistress who will not allow her to chase squiggles up trees. [hsad]

You and Betsey will particularly like the stockings when you see them - I won't say any more at this stage. Tee hee!! They are at the embroiderers and I'm hoping to collect them either tomorrow or Friday. That way DH can do photos and we can get them onto the website.

We are going to the Wales Whippet Show in December and also possibly an event for Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue - I am waiting to hear back about that.

That is very strange about Sprocket! Shock Maybe he is going through some Kungfu style greyhound initiation (with a zen master who calls him Grasshopper) and this is part of his ninja training?

I am looking forward to the weekend - I am going to a clicker training demonstration. DH has been threatening for ages to do some of this with Andy.

rachmultiplemum · 24/10/2012 20:21

I gave my hounds sprats for the first time today, they were not impressed!

Are you doing doggy stockings Scuttle?

MissBetseyTrotwood · 24/10/2012 20:44

Well looks as tho Billy's got boring old me for walks for the foreseeable. That job was waaay too scary and high powered for me. I don't think my brain's fit enough to work at that school!

Scuttlebutter · 24/10/2012 20:47

Yes Rach, we are. They'll be on the website/our FB page/Twitter by the weekend, hopefully. Smile They are being made by one of our machinists and then they are being embroidered with the dog's name, along the cuff.

TheCunnyFuntOfEastwick · 24/10/2012 21:21

Ooh I am intrigued Scuttle! I am even more excited to see them now!
Arf @ Grasshopper :o
I hope Norty has healed well, and well enough to have her stitches out, fingers and paws crossed here!

Rach Scuttle has a website where she sells some lovely house coats, walking out coats and bandanas, and soon, christmas stockings for dogs! There is a link to her site in the OP ^^ up there :) my Sprocket has one of her housecoats, and one of her bandanas.

Incase you're wondering how I know Sprocket is staying on his bed it's because I can see his bottom bed from our bedroom door, and the first few nights of him staying down I couldn't settle because the last time we tried to make him stay downstairs he cried, barked and howled. So as I couldn't sleep I kept going to our bedroom door and checking on him [hblush] [hgrin]

TheCunnyFuntOfEastwick · 24/10/2012 21:59

He confuses me [hconfused], he followed me upstairs, came for his goodnight snuggle where he rests his head on the edge of the bed and I fuss him, then he went to his bed and settled down, then after a few minutes he got up and went downstairs!

TheCunnyFuntOfEastwick · 26/10/2012 10:14

Poppy has tamed a child unfriendly greyhound!!! My friends grey (the one who got a leaf stuck to her paw) really hates/d children, never aggressive towards them but she'd even refuse to walk past the primary school if the kids were in the playground. She'd actively avoid them. Anyway, poppy comes out of the buggy in the mornings and toddles around on the field with the digs, and Grace (the hound in question) would always avoid her, wouldn't look at her or anything.

But slowly Grace has been edging closer, and taking the odd sniff of Poppy, and yesterday, she took a biscuit out of her hands!!! Me and her owner were just like [hshock][hshock][hshock]

TheCunnyFuntOfEastwick · 26/10/2012 10:15

That should say dogs.

MagratGarlik · 26/10/2012 19:04

Well done, poppy! Impressive/!

MagratGarlik · 27/10/2012 00:06

Scuttle, can I ask you something, please? Are you planning on offering the new black skull and cross-bones coat as 20"? (It's getting cold and Woody needs a new coat - that one is cool, but is only on your site as 26").

Scuttlebutter · 27/10/2012 00:12

Hi Magrat, I am just off to bed, but didn't want to leave you completely bereft. I will send you a FB message tomorrow, but am out of the house during the day - I am going to a clicker training demo tomorrow Smile I should be back around 1.30 so will send you a more complete answer then if that's OK.

TheCunnyFuntOfEastwick · 27/10/2012 21:24

Scuttle how was the clicker training demo? I love that stocking :o

I helped out at an LGT meet and greet today, I held Adie :) bloody hell he is strong! Such a lovely boy and everybodys friend. So hope he gets a home soon :( he's been there since may last year :(
