SDTG,

I honestly could care less what other posters think or believe or condemn. This is a discussion forum, so lighten up, share advice in a good-natured way.

It is ok to hold strong beliefs, but it is not ok to inflict them on others in an aggressive way. You won't see me attacking posters who buy designer puppies...why should I? My beliefs are mine, not theirs. And to sustain a good discussion forum you have to live and let live, instead of being a zealot, passing judgement on all those who dare to venture into the doghouse.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 07/04/2012 19:32

Midori, just out of curiosity, what dogs do you breed? I've always wondered :)

RedwingWinter · 07/04/2012 19:48

I know Dooin :) I hope she knows she's appreciated.

RedwingWinter · 07/04/2012 20:24

Flat, if you think posts are too aggressive, report them to MNHQ and get them deleted. That's how it works. I never saw the deleted posts on this thread, but people who live in glass houses etc etc ...

Why are some views okay and not others? As you say, it's a discussion forum, so you have to expect a range of beliefs; we don't all have to agree, so long as we all follow the rules.

Flatbread · 08/04/2012 01:40

Red, whatever. I am not interested in trading personal insults. If you refuse to see the problem with the doghouse, that is your choice.

CatPussWithACrownOfThorns · 08/04/2012 07:45

But you don't get a range of beliefs though, do you. You get the zealots beliefs, and anyone else who tries to put theirs across, gets shouted down.

AllergicToNutters · 08/04/2012 08:58

I am a fan of the doghouse and have started some threads on here which I have found really informative and useful but I have to agree that the views shared on here, though valid, are sometimes rather aggressive and lacking in sympathy. I understand that those of you in rescue/animal welfare see so much ill treatment and hardship suffered by animals but humans go through hardship too and that needs to be considered. that's all

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 08/04/2012 10:05

well I think you do get a range of beliefs. Some abhor dog breeding in its entirety others dont think a lot of certain rescues. Some like big dogs, others will only have little dogs.

The common ground is that we believe that a dog is not an accessory, it is part of the family, whether that be a working dog or a pet dog.

SarryB · 08/04/2012 10:22

Can you get a kennel/dog run for the garden to keep them in so at least they are contained, and the poo thing is not an issue.
I know kennels aren't ideal, but they do work well for during the day.

midori1999 · 08/04/2012 10:33

spaghetti Golden Retrievers. I do occasionally mention it.. Grin

PineCones · 08/04/2012 10:56

I am going to put this out there at the cost of being flamed and say that if I was in a position where I had absolutely no option but to give up my dog for rehoming (and i do mean none- not just that it would be very difficult) AND I had exhausted EVERY rehoming option available to me (and i mean family, friends, rescues), rather than advertise on Gumtree or whatever I would rather have my dog euthanised by injection in my presence where he could go gently into the night, especially if he was very old, rather than send him to a pound in his twilight years or to a place where I could not guarantee his welfare or happiness. It would kill me but I think it would be in his interest. Appreciate this is different from euthanasia where the dog is in terrible pain or has a mortal illness, but his quality of life is important to me.
I could not bear to have him alone, bewildered, in a strange place, wondering where his family was, pining for them, at the end of his life.
But then I'm pro choice (euthanasia) for humans too.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/04/2012 12:19

Midori - there's a lady down our road who breeds golden retrievers - and keeps one from each litter, I think. Last year, when they had their latest litter, they had a total of 17 dogs. She does seem like a lovely lady, and very caring and careful of her dogs, so I think she's not one of the bad breeders - and her dogs always seem very happy and well-cared-for. Her husband walks all of them at the same time, and they behave impeccably on the lead.

Luckily I didn't see the latest litter when they were puppies - otherwise I strongly suspect one of them would have been moving just down the road to live with us!

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 08/04/2012 13:09

Oh lovely, I knew a golden retriever once, he was called Jake :)

CatPussWithACrownOfThorns · 08/04/2012 14:11

Pinecone, you've actually voiced my thoughts entirely. but I wasn't brave enough to say it
