Ok, I know dogs aren't allowed in food shops or cafes etc where food is prepared but are dogs allowed in other shops? Do you take your dogs into shops and how do people react? We are getting our puppy soon and I was just wondering. I don't see any "no dogs" signs in non-food shops but then I don't see any dogs in the shops either IYSWIM!!

Well an opticians I can understand because you wouldn't want dog hairs floating around equipment near your eyes but generally, if you're out with your dog and you need to pop into a shop, the point of taking a dog in with you is so they're not left tied up outside and they don't get fucking stolen. Or attacked, or frightened, or bite small children, etc.

Thisarmingman · 29/06/2017 23:39

But dogs don't shop. You can also leave them at home where they won't get stolen etc.

It's mainly when I'm in holiday that it would be good to be allowed take the dog in a shop. Can't leave her in the caravan on her own, or the car. Won't leave her tied up. So if we're pottering around a town, exploring and see a shop we'd like to go in its great if dog can come in.

I think it depends on the shop in question and what dog you have. My little dog gets away with going in most places if I pick him up and carry him, my sister even took him in Asda once and didn't get told off. My local shop has a no dogs policy but they let me take him in provided I carry him. I generally assume that unless there is a sign that specifically states 'no dogs' then you are fine. My big dogs don't get away with going in half as many places, that said I have before now put them in a pram or carried them over my shoulder (prob quite a sight) in order to short cut through the 'no dogs' shopping mall which I got away with because they weren't on the floor.

In Brighton dogs are welcomed pretty much everywhere, we have seen dogs in H&M and M&S and take ours literally everywhere.

Cornwall is a great place to go for dog friendly holidays too, you can even take them into some all weather attractions like Bodmin castle which we were really pleased to see too!

Congratulations and good luck!

Live in Dorchester, I know Blacks, Crystals and Saltrock are dog friendly

BestIsWest · 30/06/2017 22:08

Not a shop, but we were really impressed that we could take our dog inside Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire. They even had free poo bags.

Thisarmingman · 30/06/2017 22:29

People take dogs into clothing and food shops? BOAK. I don't want dog hair and slobber on my grundies. Making a mental note now never to go shopping in Brighton.

ShottaSheriff · 30/06/2017 22:37

Shopping on Kings Road in London recently and there was at least one person with a small dog in almost every shop. I couldn't believe it!

BestIsWest · 01/07/2017 20:39

Oh yes, Cotswold Wildlife Park. We had a fab day there last year with our dog. He wasn't allowed in to see the wolves though Grin

Wolfiefan · 01/07/2017 23:17

Surely they'd make an exception for a wolfhound @BestIsWest ? Grin

OMG, he/she is gorgeous Wolfie. I'm sure they would.

DDog was beside himself with all the new animal smells as it was, I think the wolves would have npbeen just too much for him!
