Ok, I know dogs aren't allowed in food shops or cafes etc where food is prepared but are dogs allowed in other shops? Do you take your dogs into shops and how do people react? We are getting our puppy soon and I was just wondering. I don't see any "no dogs" signs in non-food shops but then I don't see any dogs in the shops either IYSWIM!!

A very posh clothes shop near us has a sign in the window that says 'No children. Dogs welcome.' Grin

daydreamnation · 27/06/2017 15:15

My little pooch is a regular at our local b&q! I've also heard that tk maxx are dog friendly but don't know if it's just a rumour?

LaGattaNera · 27/06/2017 15:26

It depends I think on the owner or manager - there is a coffee shop in Wokingham that is very dog friendly indeed and obviously they serve food there. Some pubs allow - not my local Wetherspoons though - even on a weekday mid-afternoon, no one else in the garden I was told nope she couldn't stay in there - massive garden and she was snoozing under my table but I was asked to leave.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 27/06/2017 15:28

LaGattaNera Well yes, there's a no dogs policy. Regardless of the number of patrons or any other factors, there is still a no dogs policy.

LaGattaNera · 27/06/2017 16:17

Yes wasn't arguing - just commenting on my experience thanks

applesareredandgreen · 27/06/2017 21:40

At the seaside town we are currently staying in the branch of Fat Face has a sign saying 'dogs, ice creams and husbands welcome'. DH therefore wanders in with an ice cream and our dog Hmm had to explain to him it wasn't an order ...

agedknees · 28/06/2017 15:22

Sea salt in Dartmouth not only let my dog in when it was raining, they let dh in as well.

And they had run out of dog treats, so one of the assistants went to the local pet store and got ddog some treats.

Lovely store, lovely assistants, lovely town.

Keswick is another very friendly dog town, as is Coniston.

caoraich · 28/06/2017 15:29

As a teenager my dog came absolutely everywhere with me. Shops, cafes, on the bus. That was rural Scotland 10-15 yrs ago though. When I went to uni he joined me in some lectures! But not the dissection labs....

Where I live now - glasgow- pubs and independent shops seem to be more dog friendly than chains. My local pub has a jack russel in situ who sits on his own bar stool Grin I've never seen anything but an assistance dog in a big shopping centre though.

upanup · 29/06/2017 18:52

I was in homesense a few days ago choosing a new bed for ddog and the sales assistant told me I was welcome to bring her in... apparently tkmaxx and homesense are dog friendly

AyeHen · 29/06/2017 19:02

Supermarkets it's an absolute no no. Your darling pooch could pee on produce and that would not only be gross but put the supermarket at risk of having to dispose of stock, get other customers complaining and have a safe and legal fail.
Leave the dog at home, in the car or tied up outside. Plus train it to sit for 10 minutes without whining and barking at an eye watering pitch.
Lovely, patient, well trained dogs are more than welcome and often get a petting from the staff.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/06/2017 19:07

There are loads of places I can take my dog in round London. Not restaurants though unless they have outside tables, we take her in most pubs and eat there.

ggirl · 29/06/2017 19:25

I have seen someone in TKmaxx told they couldn't have their dog in there..was teeny dog as well..

AyeHen · 29/06/2017 19:34

ggirl what on earth does the size of the dog matter?

ggirl · 29/06/2017 19:40

well it was hardly noticeable in her arms that's why

LaurieFairyCake · 29/06/2017 19:47

Yeah, pret let me bring my dog in to buy takeaway if I carried her Grin

She's a bloody 9kilo meatball now too

PossumInAPearTree · 29/06/2017 19:59

Tk max isn't dog friendly, I've been kicked out before.

Shops which are normally dog friendly IME are;

Joules
Fat face
White stuff
B&q
Go outdoors
Any outdoors shop
Pets at home
Selfridges let small dogs in, they must be carried.
Harrods don't let dogs in anymore unless they're going to the grooming parlour but they must go straight there and then out

Have also been in Primark with the dog and not been kicked out. To be honest I would try any shop which didn't sell food.

MotherOfDragon · 29/06/2017 19:59

Providing they are well behaved I don't see the problem with them being anywhere. I guess they have to make blanket rules for all the people that don't train their dogs

AyeHen · 29/06/2017 21:05

I don't see why it being 'hardly noticeable' makes any difference.
Or the size. Small dogs pee. Or worse. Small dogs can be badly behaved.
Or if someone carries it. A strong person could carry a big dog. A carried dog can pee. Or worse. A carried dog can be badly behaved.

PossumInAPearTree · 29/06/2017 21:45

A dog being carried really wouldn't wee. Which I guess is why Selfridges have the rule.

I read a funny article once about a woman with a medium size dog who managed to lug it round Selfridges ok.....wasn't huge but not a little Pom type. She was giving this dog a firemans lift round the shop!

Wolfiefan · 29/06/2017 21:49

Not lifting this monster!
We have found dog friendly cafe, garden centre, pet shop, camping store, pub, outdoors store.
And the person who said no to zoos etc. Cotswold wildlife allows dogs!

Silly question maybe .. but are dogs allowed in shops in the uk?
Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 29/06/2017 21:53

We let dogs in our shop

Not sure if its a nationwide store policy Smile

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 29/06/2017 21:54

Talking of carrying, the New York Subway has recently banned any dogs travelling on it that aren't in bag.

So people have got creative Grin

Yogagirl123 · 29/06/2017 21:55

Anywhere to do with health, pharmacy or opticians etc won't allow dogs in my experience, only assistance dogs.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 29/06/2017 21:56

I work in a dress shop, high street but similar price wise to Joules

Thisarmingman · 29/06/2017 22:05

What the fuck is the point of taking a dog into a shop, other than to piss people off? Woman I know got all irate at her dog not being allowed in an opticians. What, because it was denying him the right to try on fucking glasses? Ffs.
