Had our first walk on the beach today where whippety pup ran like a proper whippet (he had training at the weekend with an 8 month old Grin) It was so lovely to see. Thank goodness he recalls really well to my whistle or he'd be miles away in a minute.

Scuttle you will have to say when you are down in Pembs in the summer, we have a lovely beach where the dogs can run or you could show me some of the gems you have found further south. We're going to have to think about dog friendliness this year for the first time, not just where the good surf is for DS1 Grin.

GrittersWifeAndProud · 09/03/2012 19:21

Hello lost! I was starting to think you'd gotten lost (in wales?) :o I'm sorry, that was terrible :o

If I'm talking in code I'd like to know about it!

How is whippetty boy doing? How old is he now? Bet he's grown!

BehindLockNumberNine · 09/03/2012 19:47

Hello again - Gritters have sent you a fb request, I am Petra Davis Smile

Went for a walk to day with my new friend who adopted Sam's half brother from Celia Cross. He is a whippety lurcher with some rough fur, but has Sam's ears. He is gorgeous. Friend also has a jackapoo and a pure whippet. The three whippeties had a fab romp for over an hour, I now have a very exhausted Sam on the sofa...

Fed him some pieces of raw chicken earlier - he has just sicked them back up, undigested. I think someone needs to learn to chew!!

Lost, do you have any new puppy pics - bet he has grown!! The pure whippet we walked with today was sooo beautiful, am completely in love...

lostinwales · 09/03/2012 19:49

He's fabulous Gritters, all long legs and starting to be able to run like only our glorious pointy hounds can. Only four months old but getting big. My friend has an 8 month old girl whippet and he is proper in love with her, after she goes home he spends ages looking for her looking sad. Neither of them have been 'done' yet though so we are going to have to keep a close eye soon Grin.

I've not been lost but actually had some regular work for the first time in a year, typical now I have my baby, I work out who is looking after him, and spend longer on it, than I do the children! I'm only 5 minutes away though as is DH so even if he isn't going to visit someone for the day he has two hours out at lunchtime and then only two more hours until DH can be home, so I think he is still being spoilt (plus I have arthritis and so the cleaner who helped me with tidying my old house now comes extra when I'm out as she loves whippets too) You realise I never had this guilt when my children were in nursery so I could go to work Grin Blush

lostinwales · 09/03/2012 19:51

I will upload some photo's tomorrow as I'm off to a party now (get me!) I am completely in love with all Grey's/lurchers/whippets can't wait to watch them at Crufts on Sunday just so I can point out how much more beautiful my boy is Blush

GrittersWifeAndProud · 09/03/2012 20:00

Accepted you lock, when I saw your wall I knew it was you even before I saw your post, because of all the posts to CCGT :o

lost I'm so glad he's doing well! He sounds gorgeous, can't wait to see pictures of him, so he likes older women then? Much more mature than someone his own age Wink :o

BehindLockNumberNine · 09/03/2012 21:36

Thanks Gritters - yup, the CCGT page is great, we all coo over the new dogs and share our experiences with our own adopted houndies, I love it Smile

Lost, enjoy your party!!

MissBetsyTrotwood · 09/03/2012 21:38

Ah, it's times like these I wish I did FB. Just don't all rack off there OK? Grin

Is Crufts on the telly then? Or are you going lost. I'm loving all the whippets playing stories, especially the running on the beach in love ones. Poor old Sam too - sounds as though he gulped that lot down in excitement!

DH has a rare weekend off so we're off to the kennels for a walk in the lovely woods and to give Billy a bit of greyhound social time. And to meet Emma but really really don't tell DH Emma

BehindLockNumberNine · 09/03/2012 21:53

Awww, Betsy, I don't really do fb either, I just joined to keep an eye on just-about-teenage-ds as I was not really happy with him being on fb but social pressure from his friends meant I gave in.....
And I love being able to see all the CCGT updates and new dogs...

Emma is gorgeous, I love her!

Went out walking with a new friend (she adopted Sam's half brother from CCGT so we met through that) and her 3 dogs and it really made me want another dog to stop Sam being an 'only'....

MissBetsyTrotwood · 09/03/2012 22:08

Good to keep an eye on those teenish boys and what they're getting up to!

I'm having the same feeling about Billy's 'onliness'. In fact, I called up the kennel owner, Johanna about it the other day as I was having a little worry about it. She was lovely and was just really matter of fact about it, saying that once they become part of a family that's the most important thing of all. I mean, he seems really happy and relaxed and stimulated enough with us, and is starting to learn stuff (after about 3mo of perseverance we've almost mastered garden recall!) but I can't help but think... She's been rehoming them for 40 odd years so she must be right!

My boys are still small enough at the moment to really be rather like dogs so we probably shouldn't adopt another but I can only hope and dream!

Off to bed now with a good book - hope lost is having a good time! Nighty night!

GrittersWifeAndProud · 10/03/2012 07:46

Betsy I'm :o at your dog-like boys! I won't ditch this thread for fb, what if any pointy newbies come on and no-ones here?

Scuttle I have reason to believe that we have the same sofas! We have a 2 seater and a 3 seater, bought as a pair from an advert in Wilkos just over 2 years ago :o Laura Ashley ones I think they are, in raspberry pink :o

lostinwales · 10/03/2012 11:32

Wow Gritters that has to be the fastest anyone has ever accepted my friend request! Grin Was just coming on to say that if you get any FB requests from someone initial LR then it was me, although if you take on look at my profile it is mostly whippet based! Lock I've sent you one too, I'm guessing you are the Petra that is friends with the greyhound rescue Smile

Lovely party last night but I wanted to get back to my furry hot water bottle! Beautiful weather here today so I am going to take him to the beach for a lovely long run, I might even take the children if they behave nicely.

GrittersWifeAndProud · 10/03/2012 11:48

I get texts off fb if I get messages, comments or requests :o and seeing as I'm NEVER without my mobile I usually accept or reply pretty sharpish :o

lostinwales · 10/03/2012 11:54

Get you with your technology, you do look very young and beautiful, Sproket looks like an absolute dream too (little girl's not bad either Wink but I'm more interested in the dogs now I am ancient!)

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 10/03/2012 15:26

We have a gorgeous whippety lurcher (pretty sure there's lots of terrier in there) who is 1.3 and so affectionate and cuddly. We also have a lab, who is whippety's 'mum', and they are devoted -- very funny watching whippet-girl being chased by lab, and lab just about keeping up on the straight, but losing it completely as soon as she jinks away.

We are very lucky as we have lots of big safe fields round here, so can let them off-lead a lot, and their recall is pretty good (as long as there are treats in my pocket to make it worthwhile!)

Our only concern atm is that whippet is perfectly house-trained EXCEPT at about 5am, when she leaves a mess in the utility room where they sleep. If we put her in the crate she won't mess it, so she can hang on. I wonder whether she now thinks the utility room floor is OK to poo and pee on, so will just carry on. We scold her as soon as we're down (6.30am) but of course by then I'm not sure she really understands what she's done wrong . . .

MissBetsyTrotwood · 10/03/2012 16:04

Met a fabulous blue greyhound on Highbury Fields today. Although as that is the POSH end of town he was even more aristocratic than our Billy. He hadn't even been a racer - they'd had him from a puppy! She said that, in spite of having him from tiny and taking him to loads of training his recall was still dodgy! Lovely to see a greyhound, an akita, a husky and a staffy all playing together.

BehindLockNumberNine · 10/03/2012 16:55

Whatwould - please don't scold your whippety an hour and a half after she soiled the floor.
Dogs live in the moment, they have no concept of having done something wrong over an hour ago. They cannot make that connection, no matter how guilty they may appear to look.

All you are teaching your whippety is that when you get up in the morning you are in a bad mood and taking it out on her Sad

BehindLockNumberNine · 10/03/2012 16:57

Hi Lost - yes I am the Petra who is a bit greyhound rescue obsessed... (love that place and the people running it)
Got your request, thanks Smile Off to have a nose now at your whippet pictures Smile

Scuttlebutter · 10/03/2012 17:52

Ooh, Gritters, yes!! We bought ours from Laura Ashley about six years ago when we moved into this house. I must say they are incredibly comfortable and we wash the covers all the time and they stand up to it very well. There are usually a couple of home made quilts slung over the back of them and a variable layering of pointies Grin They have faded a bit since we bought them but in a nice way. I sadly recollect that at the time I also splashed out on some nice cushions (have a bit of a thwarted cushion fetish) but unfortunately the tassels got chewed, the velvet was dribbled on and they generally ended up looking very sorry for themselves. So we've now got a couple of cheap and cheerful Ikea ones. Sigh.

Lost, yes, we are in pembs in June for a week - going to little dumpledale. Would love to meet!! Grin One of our greys has a special whippetty friend that we see most weekdays on our regular walk and honestly it's like the pointy version of "Brief Encounter" - there are lots of longing looks, mad dashes etc..

Betsy, I still think doing a spot of fostering may be the answer... One pointy is never enough - they are surprisingly addictive....

GrittersWifeAndProud · 10/03/2012 19:03

Yep they are damn comfy, when we went to see them I sat down on one and it was just like "Oh. My. GOD these are so COMFY!!! We'll take them!"
That's so weird, our greyhounds are brothers and we have the same sofas. I wonder what else we have in common?

Aww thank you lost :) although DD is only "not bad"? I had no idea you were so mean Wink:o

OldMotherDismass · 10/03/2012 21:55

I'm just marking a spot, I keep lossing this thread Smile.

lostinwales · 10/03/2012 22:19

She's beautiful Gritters Grin I just thought it best not to gush on a pointy hound based thread!

Be fantastic to see you when you are over Scuttle, I look forward to seeing them run together. Smile

Had another great run on the beach today with his brother, we stopped in the dunes to let the children play (6 between us Confused) and the dogs were too exhausted to even fight properly.
