We want a dog and DH has seen an advert for a 10 week old Staffy on Pets4Homes or some such site....it's apparently in a family who appear to have bitten off more than they can chew....both working dog needs more attention yada yada.

I am a bit nervous about getting a "Staffy" from a family we know nothing about...dog is all sorted as far as injections etc but no papers....he says he is onlly seing it...he wont come home with it and he does know a lot about dogs having always had them. BUt I stil feel a bit odd about just going to someones house and buying their rejected puppy. Is it wrong? What should he be considering?

Reality, we are not talking of allowing the breed to die out. We are talking of not allowing any more SBT to be born in 2011 and until the relentless and merciless killing of unwanted SBT is no longer an issue, whenever that will be.

This is not a competition, see. :) This isn't "us and them", rescue vs breeders. This is "keeping dogs alive and being genuinely concerned for dog welfare vs adding to the number slaughtered in pounds each week".

misdee, you are entirely correct. For once, the KC have got it right.

kidsrockmyworld · 02/11/2011 19:27

As i stated before this isn't a regular thing never crossed my mind till approached.
If I'm perfectly honest I've no idea how many dogs are in rescue centres never looked into it. As i'm so well informed i now ,i know better .
Waiting lists/breeding never done this before as stated so only know what the breeder told me .
Not to be jumped/sworn and shouted at because I want my next sbt to be sired by my beautiful boy. And i should also add myself and family are very excited with our knew arrival.

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 02/11/2011 19:33

I wil definately come here and let you all know when we get our new arrival....I will post pics!

[Goes off to inform cats of impending canine arrival]

aww chip is gorgeous

i have been approached on a few occasions to use my dog for breeding from as he is so pretty looking. i am very quick to point out to anyone showing an interest in breeding that all my dogs have been neutered. BEFORE anyone breeds or allows their dog to be used for breeding they should do research first. during said research it would quickly become apparent to anyone that there is a huge problem with overbreeding of sbts. to not do this before breeding is irresponsible and shows no regard for dog welfare

mycatsaysach · 02/11/2011 19:55

was just going to post about your cats mumbling - how are they?

DogsBestFriend · 02/11/2011 20:56

I will try again. And try not to get deleted this time.

It is in my opinion and that of those of us who work so hard in rescue and AR, sometimes at great personal cost, that it is morally wrong, cruel, deeply lacking in awareness at the very least and unreasonable to breed a type of dog which are being killed in HUGE numbers, hundreds of healthy dogs slaughtered each week, in pounds and vet surgeries across the country purely for lack of homes.

We feel that no responsible, caring person would do such a thing and that those who do are not in a position to claim that they are dog lovers. We are supported by the Kennel Club, who, as misdee says, implore that no-one breeds Staffies.

On a personal note I deplore the practice of breeding Staffordshire Bull Terriers and their crosses and am unable to express any empathy or respect for those who contribute to the needless slaughter of innocent animals.

I should have said sorry a lot earlier for causing you any upset and disrupting your thread, Mumbling. I am cross that someone should advocate or be involved in the breeding of SBT and that they should appear to be making an attempt to suggest that you purchase one of them but that's not of course in the least your fault... heartfelt apologies to you. :)

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 02/11/2011 23:07

No worries! Threads are always better when a few conversations take place! And we all learn things. Smile
