And here's the next unwanted dog I have to save from the pound...

Frankie is a 5 year old male. He's brindle with a splash of white, knows basic commands and calmly ignores other dogs when out on a long leash. He's energetic and affectionate and all of the things you could want in a family pet.

He probably WAS someone's family pet once.

But now he's in the pound and will be killed in there unless he's taken out to the safety of a rescue. He's got until Friday. :(

Pictures of this latest dog which I've been asked to... no, I WILL find a rescue place for, are on my profile.

Frankie's one crime?

He's a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Sad Good luck Val.

Don't you just wish you had room for/could take more? I know I do.

Oh bless, Korma, thank you - I spoke to them last night but they doubted they could help.... but this morning secured GSD breed rescue for both the GSD and his Chow X friend. :)

Midori... don't I just. Landlord would serve me notice though and then we'd ALL be seeking a home!

It gets to a point too where there's only so much you can afford and only so much you can offer to each dog. I would be able to help in the short term but long term something would end up 'giving' - 3 large dogs when there's only me to care for them are enough.

I wish I didn't live in a flat

I wish I didn't work shifts

I wish DP liked dogs (bitten as a child)

I will have to (reluctantly) stick to the cat, the rabbit and the fish Sad

Vallhala · 17/05/2011 18:19

Sell the flat, go self employed and ditch the partner?

OK, Purplepidjin, perhaps not my best idea this week?! :o

purplepidjin · 17/05/2011 18:22

2 is hopefully happening later this year, but unfortunately will mean that 1 won't be possible for a few years and i'll be reliant on 3 (plus I love him and don't want to send him to rescue just yet Wink

One day I'll have a big house with chickens, ducks and hopefully a couple of sheep... oh yeah, and maybe a couple of kids Grin

If you're New Forest ish I'm happy to help dog walk btw

Vallhala · 17/05/2011 18:43

Wish I was New Forest-ish, I love it down there! Instead I have to contend with flat East Anglia!

Sadly the pound has just emailed me and asked me to add another Staffie to that list of dogs in need of rescue. :( She visited a lovely family today and they were not in question... however she didn't cat-test well at all and so won't be moving in with them.

I can't help myself, because we already have a recue Staffie and he needs to be an only dog. But I hope I can encourage someone to take Frank .

My Staffie is 9 he lived rough on the streets and when he was taken into the pound a rescue took all the other dogs in that week except him - he was left to be PTS. Fortunately he was recued at the last minute by Many Tears and after more difficulties where he was attacked by another dog ( that is why he has to live on his own) he eventually came to us.

He is the nicest sweetest dog a human (or cat) could wish to meet, loving, friendly and someone has loved him and trained him well in the past. He has just fitted into our lives as if he has always been there and adopting him is the best thing we have done since...oh.. when we got our last dog 17 years ago - please help Frank, someone!

coccyx · 17/05/2011 20:14

hope you find somewhere, in middle east so bit far!
keep up the good work

Vallhala · 17/05/2011 20:58

OBWNB, I'm so, so disappointed for you. All the staff and Boss have done is wax lyrical about what a nice family you are and how caring you are.... life just isn't fair. :(

Yes, that is indeed the Lancs GSD Rescue where Chow X and GSD are going (Bonnie and Clyde, don'tcha know!). And you, my dear, are a star and a darling... thank you, I know that Ted, the owner of the rescue, will appreciate your kindness very much.

Poor Frankie, he looks beautiful. Wish I could help but I have just got a GSD from a rescue and my house is at bursting point with pooches. Hope it works out for him.

DooinMeCleanin · 18/05/2011 00:55

If you're able to get him here and would homecheck me and he is good/okay with cats he can come here, but I warn you, you might not get him back Grin.

I am arranging my homecheck for the Greyhound place tomorrow. I had been looking to foster but I am too far away from all the onea I have heard of and contacted and/or my children are too young. I had missed the two my Dad has now been in touch with.

Save Our Strays specialise in taking dogs out of pounds, but are a North East rescue so I don't know if they only take dogs from the NE. Might be worth emailing them though?

GetOrfMoiCase · 18/05/2011 01:03

Oh that poor dog Sad. He looks lovely.

Ever since I have been hankering to get a dog, and have decided I can't because it wouldn't be fair because we work FT, I have really had a crush on SBTs. Firstly that old boy Hector in Cheltenham rescue who I fell in love with, and all the poor dogs I see being hauled outside Asda by chavs. I visited one of DP's friends at the weekend and he had 2 SBTs, they were so lovely, like seals. Very strong and boisterous, but so lovely, and such kid eyes.

If I had a baby and had a year off work, do you reckon I could get a dog then, or do you reckon that is taking it too far Grin

Well done again Val, you work so hard. Plus at your blondie alsatian, he is gorgeous, have never seen a blonde alsatian before. He looks very elegant (I bet he knows it Grin)

Vallhala · 18/05/2011 01:27

Dooin will ask them to cat test! :o

GerOrf, Fish DOES know he's elegant! People still try to tell me that I have a retreiver cross though! Hmm

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiCase · 18/05/2011 01:30

He is absolutely beautiful Val.

Bet it is fun when he is moulting though Wink

Vallhala · 18/05/2011 01:34

I do not have a large rug in my sitting room.... or at least not for most of the day. I see it in the morning after I've hoovered and again in the evening when I've hoovered again.

All other times I have the potential to knit another three dogs. :o

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiCase · 18/05/2011 01:43

I have a similar situation with 2 black sheets which I am too soppy to prevent from sleeping on my white sheets

I change the sheets a lot Grin

GetOrfMoiCase · 18/05/2011 01:43

2 black cats

DooinMeCleanin · 18/05/2011 01:52

I have a black and white cat, who moults terribly. It solves all my decor problems. White things get black hair on them. Dark things get white hair on them. We just have to accept the house will be covered in hair and decorate how we wish. I swear his hair breeds.

GetOrfMoiCase · 18/05/2011 02:05

I stroke my cats and watch half a pound of black fur fly into the air.

This later can be found in great big black clumps all around the house.

I am constantly sweeping the floor like a pursed-lipped Victorian parlour maid.

I am getting 2 more cats next month. I am a masochist Grin
