Not really.

But seriously my house REEKS.

They're muck spreading (is this usual in January) and then the muck runs off into the puddles and ditches and EVERY SINGLE SODDING puddle and ditch and small patch of field dampness MUST be lain in. Flamboyantly.

I knew I signed up for dog smell but not shit smell.

She gets hosed after every walk but still the stench lingers.

Is there something that I can burn or waft about that might help?

LOL Yes funny how that is.

Today the hose pipe is frozen solid, so no post walk wash down and house smell is decidedly organic.

Mine roll in everything dire - they get a good hosing and then a wipe over with Johnson's fragranced baby wipes. Seems to work for some reason.....

Hose down as much as you can first. Get a washing up bowl and fill with the hottest water you can put your hands in. Add a great big splosh of Dettol. Get an old hand towl and give doggy a good hard rub down with the dettol mixture. Keep rinsing towel in the mixture and repeat several times. You will have a lovely clean shiny dog!! Who doesn't smell!!!

You could also rub them in the finest wines available to humanity Wink

(Sorry for the seeming rudity, but yes, it was a Withnail reference. You ponce Wink Grin)

Yankee candles work great ,
baby talc plus baking powder works on smelly rugs ,leave for a while then vacum ..

Do you want the bad news? The more you wash your dogs and try to disguise the smell the more they will roll in "stuff" to remove the fragrant smell.

Vet bed is the only bedding that you can wash at 90 or 60 degrees and will not smell of dog. So weekly washing of beds will make a huge difference to smell in the house.

Get a towel like this. link Pop towel on dog after walk when in the car - clean car and dry dog and chuck towel in the washing machine.

Good leave it command to stop rolling in "stuff" while out on walks. If they do have diluted dog shampoo with a bit of white vinegar in a plastic spray bottle. Spray dogs before they get in the car and wipe with cloth and then into dog towel.

But love the idea of an installation Grin

Mine have never once been shampooed and they smell fine - and yes I live in a rural area too.

Don't shampoo them or smear them with anything. Urgh.

If you want an air feshener, I find those Japanese style stick things that you stand in scented oil work best.

I think the smell of artificial fresheners is gross - far worse than cow poo. Grin

What breed of dog have you? Do you have a good 'leave it' or 'come away' command down?

Slubberdegullion · 25/01/2011 20:05

We do have a reasonably good leave it command (see profile)

However with the fields in their current state of waterloggedness she would have to leave it using levitation.

The tips for regular bed washing on hot seem to have helped, and the Yankee candle smelly thing in the car is working.

LOVE the big towel dog bag. May have to invest in that for seaside trips.

Scuttlebutter · 25/01/2011 22:37

Levitation!! Love it. Grin

Our resident squirrel chaser would like that.
