Need name suggestions for a yellow lab to go with the old people's home feel of the rest of the menagerie!

We currently have Dot and Bert the cats and Mabel the black lab.

I want an old lady name for the new puppy but can't come up with anything as pretty as Mabel!

DH likes Betty but I'm not 100% sure.

Give me ideas, please!

Another vote for Florence (favourite and much loved 94 year old great aunt)

Winifred

Olive

Gertrude

Gwendoline

COCKadoodledooo · 16/01/2011 23:30

Gladys, Ethel or Phyllis get my vote.

SlowComfortableShrew · 16/01/2011 23:33

We were going to call our guineas gladys and mabel if we had got girls! I thought the suggestion of hetty was gorgeous

I had a look in the Baby Name Finder - selecting a pest control officer who likes Hobnobs: its best suggestion was Aggie.

Also: Jeanie, Clarrie, Cora, Gertie, Jilly, Gilda, Freda, Flossie, Enid, Persis, Posy, Thelma, Dorcas, Sybil, Tilly, Vera, Wanda, Nora, Lottie, Kizzy, Wendy, Brenda

TomYumSoup · 17/01/2011 10:52

We had Bella which was nice but not sure it would go along with Mabel. We also had Bert.

CalamityKate · 17/01/2011 12:56

Elsie. I like Elsie.

SlubberdeGurnard · 17/01/2011 13:41

Grin as you know Olihan my lab is Elsie.

I won't mind if you use it, although it might make our dog walk in Delamere (if we ever get round to organising it) interesting!

The name Enid just gives me a big smile on my face, I can picture a lab called Enid.

maxybrown · 17/01/2011 16:36

awwww i like Betty, am just sat with DS watching 3 wishes and Patrick Swayze's dog in it is called Betty Jane - I like Peggy though too

maxybrown · 17/01/2011 16:37

or nancy?

onimolap · 18/01/2011 20:17

Decided????

Do tell!

JaxTellersOldLady · 18/01/2011 20:50

Elsie or Elsa.

I like both those names for a yellow lab.

thebountymuncher · 19/01/2011 11:08

I like Maude.

daisydotandgertie · 19/01/2011 11:15

Gertie or Nellie get my vote

Olihan · 11/02/2011 01:16

OK, thanks for all the suggestions. After much arguing consideration the shortlist is down to:

DH Betty or Doris

DCs Winnie (DH 99% a no, though)

Me: Elsie or Bunty

Can we have your votes please, because DH and I will never settle it between us!

Beryl, Derdrie or Molly?

bumpybecky · 11/02/2011 13:10

I really like Doris and Elsie (but not Bunty or Winnie)

onimolap · 11/02/2011 13:18

Bunty or Betty.

Winnie, to me and for a dog, is short for either Winnie the Pooh or Winston.

Slubber · 11/02/2011 13:55

It's got to be Elsie hasn't it Grin

Olihan · 11/02/2011 20:19

Slubber, I know, everyone in RL says Elsie too Grin.

It's a perfect lab name AND it goes with Mabel.

Was browsing old doghouse threads yesterday and saw your posts about doing gundog style training with E, is she responding well to it?

Slubber · 12/02/2011 08:10

Mabel and Elsie go so well together that I just may have to get another lab just so I can have the same combo Grin.

tbh Elsie responds well to any training involving the clicker, liver cake and the new most holiest of holies .... The Kong Wubba.

I'm very attracted to some aspects of the gun dog training that involve control, concentration and obedience from a distance, and anything that involves lobbing things into water. The books scare me a bit though as they seem to be written by gruff men who probably shout a lot.

I really should get my act in gear and sign up for some classes as at the moment it's me reading bits and bobs and then having a stab at it myself...with varying degrees of success Grin

When are you getting your Elsie new lab? How exciting. We must do Delamere at some point.
