Just need to ofload really and try to get things straight in my head. I havent really said an awful lot recently about him because I am in total turmoil.

his mouth is a lot better, his paw was a lot better, tonight limping again, had a look, which he really didnt want me to do, cant see anything really, but it is red inbetween the toe where he had the yukky bit. This week he has been up to the loo during the night every night.Sad

Today he has had a seriously dodgy tum and he could poo through the eye of a needle. Going to the vets tomorrow, but him immune system is low and he is getting one thing after another. EAch week it is something, and each week we are reviewing at the vets. Just when I think we are turning a corner the next day it all starts again.

He isnt the happy puppy we got, he looks like a hat stand, cant get any weight on him, no matter how much I feed him, bulked out but still bland food.

Have had a long chat with my friend who is also breeder and she understands how I feel. Have spoken to DH too and I think we really need to make a decision for my poor puppy. He is a fantastic dog, but I just feel that we cant go on like this. Mostly for his sake. He grunts and groans and sighs and it breaks my heart to see him like this.

Before when his mouth and insides were a total mess, his saving grace was that he was still happy in himself and eating, now he isnt happy and although eating and is ravenous it is due to the steroids not him.

sorry this is so long, you dont even need to reply, I just needed to write it down.

Vets tomorrow with a urine sample.

no, wasnt thinking of chocs, maybe an orchid plant or something instead? Might ask my friend who works at same place what my vet would like.

Sounds good. Vets like yours are the reason I get a bit cross when people suggest vets are just money-grabbing fiends. The vets I have worked with most certainly weren't - it's incredibly frustrating for a vet to have a poorly animal they can't find a solution for.

Hope the B12 thing turns out good x

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 01/12/2010 17:59

Only just seen this, sorry to hear you are still having a hard timeSad.

I'm sure your vey has explored this route, so forgive me for mentioning it, but I am currently re-reading a book by Joyce Stranger in which she nearly ends up having her retriever Janus PTS, as no one can understand what is wrong with him, his symptoms rang a bell beacause of Loofa and I just felt I should mention it.

He had Pancreatic Insufficency and was eventually cured with an enzyme supplement and special diet.

Again sorry if it is old hat and my fingers are so crossed for you.

((((hugs))))

JaxTellersOldLady · 04/12/2010 18:02

well this week has been a bit mental!

To think that this time last week we were discussing PTS, Loofa is full of beans, eating his food, looks like he is putting on weight and it looks like he has got his 'spark' back.

We have dropped the steroids down again and are now doing one day on one day off, while giving him his antibiotics each day. What a difference, it is amazing.

Still on pretty small walks which is fine as his foot hasnt fully recovered, but he has been playing in the garden in the snow with Lolly and instigating games with her, which he hasnt been doing. So very pleased with his progress. Xmas Grin

Do you see what I mean about it being a rollercoaster with him????

OP posts:
kid · 04/12/2010 19:46

Glad to hear he has perked up Smile

Vallhala · 05/12/2010 10:24

That's just great news, tears in my eyes for you. Xmas Smile

Long may it continue, keep it up Loofa darling!

JaxTellersOldLady · 05/12/2010 12:36

DH took both dogs out for a walk this morning (together) and said they played really nicely together and lolly was so good.

Both now lying together fast asleep, looking all snuggly.

Thanks Valhalla, me too!

OP posts:
kid · 05/12/2010 22:49

how lovely to hear they have both had a wonderful time today Smile

JaxTellersOldLady · 06/12/2010 21:38

well boobs n bollocks, this evening went into Dining Room to get my phone and saw a little puddle of fresh blood surrounding Loofas mouth, knelt down had a look, got some kitchen roll to wipe it up, wiped around his mouth and a massive red clot of blood came out his mouth.

Shouted DH downstairs to have a look and we both looked in his mouth, all around his body and back to his mouth. Nothing that we can see... so off to the Vet with him again tomorrow. I am so scared now, he was looking and acting so much better.

What do I do now? What can this be? Sad

OP posts:
kid · 06/12/2010 21:46

How is he in himself? Is he still acting well?

I have no idea what it could possibly be, its so sad and frustrating after he was doing so well with his recovery too.

Hope that the vet can reassure you tomorrow and give you some answers.
Poor Loofa, we all just want you to be all better x

Vallhala · 06/12/2010 21:59

I wish I had answers for you too love. Poor little fella - though knowing dopey Sheps, he's probably far less worried than you are.

I hope that the vet has the answers and that he/she has a heap of reassurance for you tomorrow too.

JaxTellersOldLady · 06/12/2010 22:21

he is ok in himself. Asking for food, but he is not getting anything else tonight! he is fast asleep in the dining room again, he keeps doing a mouth thing, like lip smacking iykwim?

Have put fresh water down (not that the bowl wasnt full or fresh) and he has had a drink.

Our Vet is a she, lovely lovely smart, clever lady who adores Loofa. As do the receptionists and nurses, they all love him, such a gentle soul, although he looks totally gorgeous, he is dark and menacing looking but not a bad bone in his body.

FUCK!

OP posts:
Bella32 · 07/12/2010 08:39

How is he today, Jax? Thinking of you x

JaxTellersOldLady · 07/12/2010 12:39

today he is bright as a button, eating, drinking, playing with Lolly and up for fun and games in the garden!

Spoke to his Vet, she said so long as he is fine in himself she will wait to see him on Thursday as planned. He looks like he has put on some weight which is good and havent seen any other blood, so I have no idea whats going on.

Got to keep an eye on him - basically to check all wees and poos for blood, but so far zilch.

bloody animals!

OP posts:
kid · 07/12/2010 16:03

Well that's good news but the blood us a complete mystery. Hope you don't have any more scares like that.

Bella32 · 09/12/2010 09:44

Best of luck at the vets today, Jax. Will be thinking of you Wink

JaxTellersOldLady · 09/12/2010 14:03

thanks Bella! GOOD NEWS!!!!!

Loofa is now 32KG which is amazing, I could see he had put on a bit, but was stunned when he got on the scales. Xmas Grin

Vet is happy with his mouth, a bit red, but no new blisters, no open wounds at all and all looking good. Today is steroid day so he is starving, he stole a pigs ear in the shop next to the vets, but thats ok, the lady loves him and gave him some biscuits 'on the house' she said he looks much better and he can eat whatever he likes in her shop! Bless her.

His paw is still a bit squidgy and we are to keep an eye on it, likely it will burst again, but he is happy, Vet is happy, I am happy we are all pleased with his progress.

Steroids going down on Saturday to 25mg every other day, so might see some sores, might not, going back on 22 again for review.

Lets hope this is the future.

Got to say today he is full of beans, been out for a walk and he is quite naughty in the house, not doing anything bad per se, just not doing what I ask him. Typical youngster behaviour which I am ecstatic about!

Oh, and vet had a good look in his mouth, under his lips, tongue and as far back as she could see, no sign of anything wrong, so no clue where this blood came from. Bizarre - nothing since then, so fingers crossed again.

OP posts:
kid · 09/12/2010 17:14

thats excellent news, really pleased to hear it.

Keep up the great recovery Loofa, your mummy is very proud and so are all her MN friends! Grin

JaxTellersOldLady · 09/12/2010 20:37

thanks Kid! huge slurpy kiss from him.

For the first time in almost a year I am almost relaxed about him.

I have been so tense and on edge the past few weeks, grumpy but now am looking forward to my traditional Christmas morning walk with him.

OP posts:
Vallhala · 09/12/2010 21:03

Hey that's fantastic. :) :) :)

I'm so very pleased to hear this. Keep it up fluffball!

Bella32 · 09/12/2010 22:50

Oh that's BRILL Xmas Grin

Well done, Loofa! Keep up the good work Xmas Smile

JaxTellersOldLady · 10/12/2010 12:45

another good day today, played in the garden, got to build up his muscles slowly, tomorrow I will take him out for a lovely walk by himself.

I have a proper dog again, just watching him the past couple of days has made me realise how ill he was. poor thing, I know I see him every day and of course I knew he was very very poorly, but seeing him back to his usual sparkly youngster self is quite literally tear jerking.

he even woofed at the postie this morning - he never does that!

OP posts:
Vallhala · 10/12/2010 13:05

:)

MN needs a "thumbs up" emoticon!

kid · 10/12/2010 21:01

We are usually quick to come on here to ask questions or to moan about something (I know I do!) so its so nice to read something positive Smile

JaxTellersOldLady · 10/12/2010 21:53

Trust me Kid, it is so nice to be able to post something positive about him again! Grin
