Morning and welcome.

To anyone new this is the Happy Place Café, all food and drink served here is calorie free. Everyone is welcome.

There are some people who have been here for literally years and others are newer.

The staff are me, obviously, Florence a French pastry chef who is married to Fernando the cocktail waiter (no one knows where Fernando is from so we suspect the marriage was about visas).

In a previous incarnation one of the regulars was Tilly (RIP) who brought a sparkling light in to the café along with a lemur named Leo.

Leo runs a dog wash (Tilly had a golden retriever and her family agreed to the dog wash as a tribute) but as there are rarely and dogs around he will wash anything, his other interests are goats and eggs. He spends every morning cooking eggs.

Outside the café is seating and a water feature, the water feature becomes a swimming pool in summer and an ice rink in winter. There is also a petting zoo.

Other residents are the kittenbees who are kittens the size of a bee with wings, they are very gentle but like to nibble anything sweet. Please do not give them alcohol.

Outside is where their larger cousins the bumblecats live, they are about the size of a fist and a lot more feisty than the kittenbees.

There is normally a daily special for breakfast and sometimes there is a pack up / bait / packed lunch.

Now to breakfast.

I thought a little trip to Germany would fit this morning so Florence is making bread rolls, soft and crusty, Leo is baking / frying / boiling eggs and Fernando is serving Apfelkorn.

I put out a selection of cooked meats, cheeses, jam, nutella, marmalade and if you want that abomination that people wither love or hate, it is in a locked box in the garden, far from the café, that is where it is to be consumed.

Actually I watched a vid from 'Atomic Shrimp' the other day that featured the brown paste added to warm milk.

Red wine and cheese. Will do. I’ve discovered a particularly tasty mild soft cheese called Tomme de Montagne @ScottBakula so I’ll add that to the pile.

sashh · 14/09/2025 10:38

Morning.

Well it looks like autumn is well on its way. So I'm letting the kittenbees out for a last fly around the garden and zoo, they will be inside mostly now.

Breakfast, lets go to Canada but lets explore Native American culture.

Bannock bread (OK origins in Scotland) corn bread and corn porridge. Some fresh tomatoes on the side with a selection of berries. Leo has decided the table needs cooked eggs and the pickled eggs are ready.

Florence is making very inauthentic croissants and Fernando is serving a corn vodka.

Morning.

Well I think we deserve a continental breakfast so I'll just make a spread of various hams, slices of cheese Leo is boiling eggs I'll also put out melon, yoghurt, grapes, pickled cucumber, cherry jam and marmalade.

Florence is making crusty bread and croissants, Fernando is making bucks fizz.

A continental breakfast is a good idea @sashh , if Leo has any leftover pickled eggs can I take a couple for a mid morning snack.

@MinnieMountain thankyou , I always like the idea of trying new cheeses.

sashh · 16/09/2025 04:14

Morning.

I heard the word cheese and thought, nice idea for breakfast (and a Monty Python sketch).

So from Africa we have Caravane (made from camel's milk), kemariya and kwaito. From Asia chanakh, Lori and motal and obviously paneer. From China chura kampo and from Japan sakura cheese.

Then from Europe, urdhe, remoudou, trappista, basa, halloumi, danablu, lappi, brie camenbert, orda, gouda, limbuger, cheddar and stilton.

OK I could continue but I think that's enough, Florence is making crusty bread and crackers, Leo is making omelettes and soufflés.

I'm going to take a back seat and watch. Fernando has some dark ale that goes well with cheese.

Morning.

Well there is still quite a bit of cheese so I think toasties, jaffles and quesadillas.

Obviously Leo is frying eggs to go on the side. Florence is baking honey cakes and Fernando has some mead.

Morning @sashh , it's quiet around here isn't it.
I hope nobody has been washed or blown away by this rough weather .

Please can I have a selection of cheeses and pickles . A pint of ale.

sashh · 19/09/2025 04:58

@ScottBakula cheese, pickles and ale.

Morning

I think I’ve had enough cheese for a while. Could I have a honey cake and coffee please?

sashh · 19/09/2025 08:49

Honey cake and coffee on its way, watch out for the kittenbees.

Fully expecting to be awake tonight. Have had a terrible week but have been lying awake gripped with anxiety rather than in here bi wish I’d popped by for churros and the cheese feast.

sashh · 20/09/2025 02:26

Morning.

Sorry you missed them @tattoonewbie I'm going to have a toast fest, Florence is making some lovely sour dough and I'm toasting it so put in orders for your topping, beans, cheese, eggs of various types, avocado, banana or a selection or jam and marmalade.

OP posts:
tattoonewbie · 20/09/2025 22:31

Oh gosh. I’d love all of that. Maybe some avocados tonight then ham at 4am and a decaf? Struggling tbh and feeling v low

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 21/09/2025 03:19

Morning everyone

Awake here once again. I always seem to forget to post here when i am awake

What does everyone fancy for breakfast?
I wonder what is on offer this morning ?

I fancy a bacon & Egg sandwich and a coffee by the sea but im getting neither so i might as well try and sleep 🤣

sashh · 21/09/2025 05:30

Morning.

Well @ImDoneOnceAndForAll and @tattoonewbie I think bacon and egg on toast would go with the option of cheese and beans.

Leo will cook the eggs to order so if you want poached or baked let Leo know.

Florence is making Normandy apple cake and Fernando has calvados.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 21/09/2025 05:33

Morning

I wonder if calvados will get rid of my cold? It’s worth a try.

It’d better have some apple cake to go with it.

sashh · 21/09/2025 10:11

It's worth a try @MinnieMountain

OP posts:
tattoonewbie · 21/09/2025 19:54

tattoonewbie · 23/09/2025 05:01

Oh @sashhwhat can I get you ? Blanket, pillows? Nice easy book ? You take care. I’ll pig the kettle on.

sashh · 23/09/2025 07:28

Pig the kettle?

yeah I have bump on my temple, cuts on my nose, the fat lip has gone down though.

OP posts:
tattoonewbie · 23/09/2025 21:34

I wish I could say it was a local phrase but no. Just fat fingers. Hope you’re soon better

ScottBakula · 24/09/2025 05:40

@sashh have you been at Fernando's powerful brews ?
But seriously I hope you are ok.

@tattoonewbie anxiety can be so debilitating, I hope you manage to get some help.

I fancy some crumpets and coffee, does anyone else want some.?

sashh · 24/09/2025 08:57

Morning all, I'm still licking my wounds so I'm just going to make toast, Leo will obviously put an egg on each slice and I have sent F and F off for the day.

@ScottBakula thank you for the kind words.

No I have not been at Fernando's cocktail bar, it just an occupational hazard of having arthritis.
