Morning and welcome.

To anyone new this is the Happy Place Café, all food and drink served here is calorie free. Everyone is welcome.

There are some people who have been here for literally years and others are newer.

The staff are me, obviously, Florence a French pastry chef who is married to Fernando the cocktail waiter (no one knows where Fernando is from so we suspect the marriage was about visas).

In a previous incarnation one of the regulars was Tilly (RIP) who brought a sparkling light in to the café along with a lemur named Leo.

Leo runs a dog wash (Tilly had a golden retriever and her family agreed to the dog wash as a tribute) but as there are rarely and dogs around he will wash anything, his other interests are goats and eggs. He spends every morning cooking eggs.

Outside the café is seating and a water feature, the water feature becomes a swimming pool in summer and an ice rink in winter. There is also a petting zoo.

Other residents are the kittenbees who are kittens the size of a bee with wings, they are very gentle but like to nibble anything sweet. Please do not give them alcohol.

Outside is where their larger cousins the bumblecats live, they are about the size of a fist and a lot more feisty than the kittenbees.

There is normally a daily special for breakfast and sometimes there is a pack up / bait / packed lunch.

Now to breakfast.

I thought a little trip to Germany would fit this morning so Florence is making bread rolls, soft and crusty, Leo is baking / frying / boiling eggs and Fernando is serving Apfelkorn.

I put out a selection of cooked meats, cheeses, jam, nutella, marmalade and if you want that abomination that people wither love or hate, it is in a locked box in the garden, far from the café, that is where it is to be consumed.

Actually I watched a vid from 'Atomic Shrimp' the other day that featured the brown paste added to warm milk.

Morning.

OK real life first - lovely Dr and nurse at the hospital. Guess what? I need a colonoscopy. The good news is that I am medically fit enough for that. So I have to wait for the appointment for the camera up the bum.

He did prescribe me some antiemetics so hope fully I won't throw up everything I eat. I'm quite overweight (OK I am obese) and since January I have lost 15 Kg.

OK back to the café. Leo is taking the goats for a walk.

I think something simple today so I'm going to make pancakes, they can be eaten plain or stuffed with sweet or savoury fillings.

Florence is making crumpets with a range of toppings.

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 02/08/2025 16:37

Hope the appointment comes through quickly. The wait is the worst @sashh

sashh · 03/08/2025 04:57

Morning.

Well IRL stuff. The antiemetic seems to be working, I managed 2 fishfingers yesterday, and then after a 1/2 hour I managed another 2 so success.

So Leo went off with the goats yesterday and has made some fresh goat's cheese which I think will go well as a dip with fluffy soft pita breads so I'll get Florence making them along with some baked rolls stuffed with cheese.

I'll also put out sliced cucumber, cherry tomatoes, melon and grapes. Obviously I'm making strong Turkish coffee.

Leo is making Turkish eggs, basically poached eggs with garlic yoghurt.

Fernando is serving ouzo

I have just had a call, my colonoscopy is on Tuesday. I have a couple of other things on so it will be a busy week, I'm sure you can make yourself something if I'm not here.

OP posts:
sashh · 06/08/2025 05:55

Morning.

So on Dr's orders I have to have a quiet day.

IRL The colonoscopy was partially successful but partially not so I need to have another. No cancer seen (semi phew) but a couple of polyps and they took a biopsy.

OP posts:
sashh · 07/08/2025 06:00

Morning.

Well lets have a look what should I cook today? I think something simple, beans on toast with optional bacon and cheese.

Leo will obviously be putting eggs on the side.

Florence is making sourdough bread and Fernando is serving bitter.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 07/08/2025 08:09

Morning @sashh , it's quite around here isn't it.

You are been put through the mill recently, hopefully they can use a laser to zap the polyps off.
IHave you got a date for your 2nd close encounter of the camera yet?

Can I have beens and cheese on toast please and a pint of worthy's please.

sashh · 07/08/2025 08:58

Of course you can @ScottBakula

Yes the second appointment is 22nd August. I'm having an 'extended prep' which means a week of prep rather than a day, but it is a gentler prep.

Yes it has been a torrid time, I called my dad yesterday to let him know my results.

I'm no contact with my brother, but my dad passed a message on that he (my brother) is 'desperate to be in touch' which is not what I needed. I started crying and said to my dad I have to go.

I'm not sure you can get a restraining order to stop people passing messages via a third party. I feel so bad for my dad.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 07/08/2025 09:54

>>>Tucks into cheeses beans and beer<<<

Is extended prep a gradual reduction of certain food untill things are cleared out ?
My db had a colonoscopy a little while ago, he was told not to eat or drink anything dark coloured for two weeks beforehand.

I am guessing your brother is worried about you but if / when you want to talk to him that should always be on your terms but I understand why your dad felt the need to tell him what's going on.

sashh · 08/08/2025 07:21

Morning.

@ScottBakula my brother doesn't (or didn't know what was going on) I don't hate him, I just decided I didn't want to be belittled, laughed at, not listened to. Basically my life is better without him in it.

OK breakfast. Let's head to the Caribbean.

Saltfish and akee, johnnycakes, festival, callaloo and doubles.

Just in case you don't want the spice Florence is making croissants, and Leo is making scrambled eggs.

Fernando is making rum punch.

Obviously there is tea and coffee.

OP posts:
ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 08/08/2025 16:04

Ah @sashhHope ypu appointment goes ok on the 22nd.
Glad there was no cancer seen
Fingers crossed for more positive news for you

sashh · 09/08/2025 06:27

Morning.

Thank you @ImDoneOnceAndForAll.

So today I feel we need a little bit of Mexico, also Leo needs something to do so he's making huevos rancheros so obviously I can make avo on toast if anyone wants it.

Florence is making churros and Fernando has beer with lime in the top of the neck.

Please watch out for the kittenbees with the churros.

OP posts:
ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 10/08/2025 03:50

Im after an omelette again

I shall help myself this morning and pop the kettle on too

sashh · 10/08/2025 04:37

Morning.

So I think a simple breakfast is in order today so a selection of fruit, hams and cheeses. Florence is making various breads, Leo is, you guessed it, making eggs, boiled or baked and Fernando has bucks fizz.

OP posts:
sashh · 10/08/2025 04:39

Oops I typed and didn't post, again.

I'll get Leo on to the omelette, grab a seat.

I’ve been trying to read real books in the night but have been with you all in spirit. I’m glad you managed to get some anti sickness @sashh. I’m finding I’m up 2-4.30 then back asleep at 5 this week. Painful. Hope everyone ok. I’m also feeling very sickly so struggling to eat. Any leftover fruit salad there is would be welcome

sashh · 11/08/2025 04:14

Morning.

Fruit salad @tattoonewbie you say? Not a problem I'll make a ginger tea for you it helps with nausea.

For everyone else I'm making porridge with a selection of fruit and berries. Florence is making croissants and Fernando is serving Irish coffee because of no reason.

Leo is taking the goats for a walk and looking for dogs to wash.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 11/08/2025 12:29

Good afternoon all, @sashh it sounds like your life is more peaceful without him in it.

@tattoonewbie what kind of books do you like ? I don't normally like autobiographies but I am listening to David Jason's on Spotify atm , it's very good . He has been in much more than I realised.
I hope you get a decent night's sleep tonight and are feeling better now .

@sashh can I have porridge and raspberries please.

tattoonewbie · 11/08/2025 13:34

I’m reading thrillers currently. But easy crime light type stuff. Just read a good Louise candlish one. @sashh I remember a couple of days of white food were in order before my colonoscopy and they took off the polyps there and then. I enjoyed mostly toasted goods !

ScottBakula · 11/08/2025 15:16

I like some crime thrillers too ,I have listened a lot of Alix cross books but I got fed up of them changing narrators and the new one pronouncing names of places and characters differently .

tattoonewbie · 12/08/2025 05:59

@ScottBakula@sashh. Is the kettle on? Awake due to worrying and warmth. Could do with a ginger tea or even builders and maybe an arrowroot biscuit. The queasiness is back today. I am struggling with my painkillers making me feel sickly. I’ve an appointment at 8.15 so might just stay awake now

sashh · 12/08/2025 06:44

Morning.

I think we need something simple so I think I'll make fresh crumpets, add your own butter and honey / jam.

Florence is making frangipanes and Fernando has some mango juice with ginger and a bit of vodka.

Leo is making scrambled eggs with a touch of goats' milk.

OP posts:
tattoonewbie · 12/08/2025 10:48

Oh wonderful. Crumpets and honey sounds ideal

sashh · 13/08/2025 05:00

Morning.

@tattoonewbie IRL you have to have something to fill the holes in crumpets don't you?

Well this morning Florence is making bread muffins so I think I'll impersonate McDonalds and make sausage and egg and bacon and egg muffins (I say I, Leo is obviously doing the egg part) and a pile of hash browns.

OP posts:
tattoonewbie · 13/08/2025 18:56

Egg muffin minus sausage please. Yummy
