Want to cry as my DD's head is so much worse than the baby on the show

Booking a doctors appointment as soon as I can because I don't want to be fobbed off anymore. Has anyone else demanded someone take you seriously about this situation.

It's not just cosmetic...it is my childs future of being teased.

What was it? I've just switched over.

supergreenuk · 14/05/2010 21:24

Oh that baby is so cute. What has your Gp said?

supergreenuk · 14/05/2010 21:28

sorry I should explain. It's flat head syndrome. Maybe it's the TV but I can't really see that his head looks bad at all.

supergreenuk · 14/05/2010 21:29

madamebovine. I haven't seen the GP just the midwife. They just glance at her and say it will sort itself out.

How old is your dd?

IMoveTheStars · 14/05/2010 21:30

Didn't see, was it flat head?

If so, post a thread in general health about it, there are a a few MNers who are excellent with advice on this

(apols if this isn't what you were talking about)

IMoveTheStars · 14/05/2010 21:31

sorry, that was really blunt - didn't mean to be.

If it is plagiocephaly, please say and I will post all the threads that I asked questions on and had excellent responses.

How old is your DD?

supergreenuk · 14/05/2010 21:31

Sorry I mean the HV

If you are really concerned google plagioUK. Tis a fantastic website and forum. Full of lots of really good advice

supergreenuk · 14/05/2010 21:35

She is coming up to 6 months and I feel like I have left it so late to act on it because you are constantly told that it's fine and don't worry. arrrrhhh

Connortraceptive I have done so much research but have spent far too long accepting that it will all be okay.

OP posts:
supergreenuk · 14/05/2010 21:36

JarethTheGoblinKing yes plagiocephaly and I didn't think you were being blunt :0)

ConnorTraceptive · 14/05/2010 21:37

Not to late at all. DS was 9 months when we sought treatment. His head is just dandy now

Thediaryofanobody · 14/05/2010 21:37

PMSL was waiting for him to ask if she's dancing, he's asking.

madamebovine · 14/05/2010 21:38

What was the treatment Connor? Was it a helmet?

Thediaryofanobody · 14/05/2010 21:39

Shit sorry wrong thread!

Baileysismyfriend · 14/05/2010 21:40

DS has a bit of a flat head, he is nine months old. Its very common now because of the putting them to sleep on their back rule.

My friends DD had a very very flat head when she was younger but now she has a full head of hair its not noticable at all, honest.

Please try not to worry, once she is sitting up for long periods Im sure it will sort itself out.

supergreenuk · 14/05/2010 21:41

He has a helmet but still waiting to see result. ConnorTraceptive what did they do?

OP posts:
ConnorTraceptive · 14/05/2010 21:43

Yes we went down the helmet route evnetually. I know these things do sometimes sort themselves out but we noticed ds's flat head at 6 weeks and did "repositioning" religiously for 8 months and nothing changed so I knew for us it would not resolve itself of it's own accord.

supergreenuk · 14/05/2010 21:44

Even if I just get the symmetry checked and re checked later just so see if it is getting worse I would feel like someone was listening.

Missus84 · 14/05/2010 21:44

A friend of mine's son had a very flat head, like you was told it would sort itself out but at 7 months he was fitted with a helmet. It didn't make his head completely round, but it did improve it a lot and now it isn't noticeable unless you knew.

WorzselMummage · 14/05/2010 21:45

My best mates 2 kids had awfully mishapen heads, I mead they were bad !

They are 4 and 5 now and with a full head of hair you'd never notice.

ConnorTraceptive · 14/05/2010 21:45

We wasted time with Gp and Paed referall. Helmet treatment is not available on the NHS so if you think it's the route you want to go it will have to be private (self refer no need to ask your gp)

ConnorTraceptive · 14/05/2010 21:47

Private clinics will see you and check symmetry for free. They are not pushy about getting a helmet.

ConnorTraceptive · 14/05/2010 21:48

A paed/GP/HV will NOT check symmetry they'll just measure the circumference and tell you it's fine. I endlessly said "I'm not worried about the size of it I'm worried about the bloody shape!"
