I think it has been done really well actually, well, so far.

Incredibly harrowing to watch.

I'm a bit about their accents. I live in Suffolk and i can remember the terrible feelings of panic. My sons carer used to use a gym near the red light district and was alwys nervous. I also know a girl who was friends with Paula Clanell.

copperjar · 25/04/2010 22:21

It was very moving. I have read about the case, and I don't recall that Anneli was ever in prison. Is this supposed to be accurate?

copperjar · 25/04/2010 22:29

Ah, I'm wrong- I've just read an article about her mum helping make the drama, and how she believes Anneli may have been trying to entrap the strangler because she was so upset about Gemma

BigBadMummy · 25/04/2010 22:34

Oh I have recorded this as it twas pub quiz night.

I was about to stick it on but I think I might wait then.

AnyFucker · 25/04/2010 22:35

'tis on again tomorrow, bbm

shallishanti · 25/04/2010 22:36

thought about watching it but didn't feel stong enough

BigBadMummy · 26/04/2010 07:20

oh thanks AF. I did look at it last night and was surprised it was only an hour long.

Didnt watch it in the end.

I am going to watch it today.

Thanks for the tip, I may have missed it tonight otherwise.

thegirlwiththemouseyhair · 26/04/2010 10:17

Very moving and harrowing, I agree.

And how fabulous is Sarah Lancashire?
She is a real class act.

lottiejenkins · 26/04/2010 10:29

I do so dislike when they try SO hard to get the accents right!!!!!! Just a petty thing sorry!

lottiejenkins · 26/04/2010 22:03

Wow that was so powerful!

LaDiDaDi · 26/04/2010 22:12

I have been completely immersed in both episodes. I think that it has been very well done and shows the circumstances in which these women lived very well.

IMO it goes some small way to compensate for the constant referral to them as "prostitutes" by the media/BBC rather than "women".

It's good viewing...it takes me back to the news reports when the whole world waited with baited breath....and then two further bodies were found. I think it's been covered well, though I agree the Ipswich accents are unreal

sincitylover · 27/04/2010 10:35

yes this is my hometown (tho havent lived there for over 20 years - my family still do).

The accents are not good but its quite a hard accent to do imo.

Also if you go twenty minutes west ie Essex they are all talking like mockneys - think one of the girls came from Essex.

Am finding it very disturbing and moving. There has always been a red light area in that district.

Can't understand why 'they' didn't make some more strident moves at the time to get the girls off the streets temporarily and supplied them with heroin/methodone until the killer was caught.

I think it would have made the people back home face some harsh realities as generally that area is relatively quiet, crime free and though the town is not backward and has changed still shocking.

OrmRenewed · 27/04/2010 11:57

It brought it home to me how much adults remain your 'children' even when grown up. I wanted to go upstairs, climb into bed with my DD and hold her tight.

MitchyInge · 27/04/2010 12:05

The Iceni worker had a bona fide Norfolk accent I think, sounds like someone from Norwich, the other regional touches in various people were toe-curling.

Emotionally v difficult to watch though.

thegirlwiththemouseyhair · 27/04/2010 12:55

What a tragic tale.
I was in tears last night.
I'm with you OrmRenewed over the idea that we can never save our daughters however much, like Anneli's mum we won't stop trying.
An amazing humanising of the whole horrid affair and much more powerful than any newspaper report.

APassionateWoman · 27/04/2010 18:06

Very well done, powerful, harrowing drama. Brilliant acting. Absolutely heartbreaking depiction of the way these young women lived . Drug addiction is such a horrific thing.

zanz1bar · 27/04/2010 21:18

Sarah Lancashire is brilliant and just about nailed the accent.

aristocat · 27/04/2010 21:27

i am liking this too, although it is very distressing!

agree sarah lancashire has really moved on from corrie

zanz1bar · 27/04/2010 22:00

dignified tribute to lost daughters. very good

lottiejenkins · 27/04/2010 22:03

Im wondering why they didnt mention in the programme that Annelli was three months pregnant when she died?
