I couldn't even watch the trailer for it without wanting to weep!

The parents can only take them out for one hour!

There will be no/very little parental relationship left

expatinscotland · 11/02/2010 21:26

like visiting your kid in care, or prison.

and she drove them around with no seatbelt.

pooka · 11/02/2010 21:26

Oh bloody hell - poor april hugging someone else's mum!

(Am on delay because my mum rang)

southeastastra · 11/02/2010 21:27

it's so cruel to leave them so young

moodlum · 11/02/2010 21:27

But they don't subsidise much - Boarding Schools Allowance has been really cut down in recent years..

poshtottie · 11/02/2010 21:27

They must get subsidised quite a bit as very expensive.

EightiesChick · 11/02/2010 21:27

Why didn't Lottie's mum take the twins out too? I felt awful for them being left behind. It was only for an hour anyway; she could have bought another two Cokes, surely?

PanicMode · 11/02/2010 21:27

Yes they do Mrspotatochip, and that is another reason why they get sent so young - in order to tap into the discount, you have to send them to board, or there's no assistance. Friends of ours are having this dilemma as they'd actually rather their boys didn't go until 13, but they want them to have a private education and can't afford it without the help.

Sobbing at this. I went to boarding school at 12 and not really thought about it before now, it's just the way it was. But this is really hitting home, my chest hurts.

southeastastra · 11/02/2010 21:29

this must be the moment the british 'stiff upper lip' emerges

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 11/02/2010 21:29

That mum's just told her daughter that she won't miss her

Couldn't they just go at 13? Terrible decisions for the whole family. I sympathise with the forces families dilemma totally do not understand the rest

MollieO · 11/02/2010 21:30

Poor child looks so sad and pensive.

Docbunches · 11/02/2010 21:30

Lottie's mum practically brushed April away as well ... poor mite.

Lottie's mum could only take her out for an hour though, I couldn't do it. I didn't give birth to ds to pack him off at 8, maybe at 13 when puberty sets in though so someone else has to deal with the hormones

brimfull · 11/02/2010 21:32

imgine watching it back and seeing your child having to hug another mum for comfort
I would feel so guilty.
wish that mum had returned the hug more

poshtottie · 11/02/2010 21:33

If you decide to use private education is boarding the only option? DH said there were hardly any day pupils when he went. That was about 30 years ago though.
