I couldn't even watch the trailer for it without wanting to weep!

I am sitting watching, crying my eyes out
Why do you have children to send them away???? I couldn't do that ever, I miss them when they go round to Grandma's for the day

roary · 11/02/2010 21:41

HOw can anyone possibly think this is better for a child like April?? SHe and her mum are obviously really close and are pushing themselves to do this (i think this acccounts for th emum's odd statements)

McDreamy · 11/02/2010 21:41

You only get assistance with boarding in the military as the idea is to provide stability for the children. It's not a system to provide private education for your child.

If you happen get posted local to your child's boarding school they can remain there as a day boarder but they have to go back to boarding once you have been posted again.

Lots of private schools also provide military discounts.

It's really hard to watch

omg ms king

4pinkbabies · 11/02/2010 21:41

I agree...couldn't believe how that Mum almost pushed April away. Ok she was there to visit her own child, but she could at least have pretended. Cow.

MollieO · 11/02/2010 21:42

April and Alex don't seem to see much of each other in school.

TheBolter · 11/02/2010 21:42

God this programme is alternately making me weep and want to slap the parents. Sorry. Just a little emotional atm as I know of a child of six whose funeral was this week. I bet her parents would give their right eyes to spend another day with their baby. How any parent could willingly part with their children like this is totally beyond me.

controlfreakery · 11/02/2010 21:42

these parents are making me v v angry. children are being taught / told to deny their feelings etc. why the fuck wouldn't / shouldn't they all be upset??
it's worked a treat on alex for sure.

poshtottie · 11/02/2010 21:42

Most of the private secondary around here are boarding schools and I don't think there are many day pupils TBH.

expatinscotland · 11/02/2010 21:42

Oh, Alex is going to have such a wonderful relationship with his parents .

Chaos - awful, I know. Every time those girls cry my heart just lurches. I feel what they feel. That desperation to be home and secure. That feeling of dread at going back to school.
I left boarding school at 16,best decision ever, I finally felt free.

thatsnotmymonster · 11/02/2010 21:43

It's so awful. They just have to detatch and suppress all their emotions

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 11/02/2010 21:43

It's horrible to watch this, those poor children. They have edited this though so maybe this is what they want us to see.

So basically it's 'better for you' not to go home, not to see your parents and not to think about them as it will make you sad if you do. Glad I will never have to do this.

southeastastra · 11/02/2010 21:43

fgs we are all only on this earth for a short time - why ever choose to separate yourself from your own child...

i thought that about april - the other mum almost brushed her off. I love my friends kids and in that situation i would have tried harder - poor lamb

southeastastra · 11/02/2010 21:44

(you can do that when they're 18)

chaosisawayoflife · 11/02/2010 21:44

I stayed until I was 18, and my relationship with my parents is distant and unemotional at best. I actually still feel like my parents don't really care deeply for me.

NotAnOtter · 11/02/2010 21:44

quite brusque

MarshaBrady · 11/02/2010 21:44

I went at 12 and was homesick at for first couple of years. At 8 it must be hell. Poor little girls.

MollieO · 11/02/2010 21:45

We have a mix of schools here - day, weekly boarding and full boarding.

I think Fluffy is right. Cutting Edge is well known for its sensationalist tack.

brimfull · 11/02/2010 21:45

aaprils mum seems to becoming hardened to it

thus more rejection
