Me.....and I think it's bonkers..

MollieO · 26/01/2010 22:49

I think it must have been hard for her having made the promise she did to her father.

daftpunk · 26/01/2010 22:51

yes, but I don't think it's right to have dc in your 50's or even 60's...do you...?

nomorecake · 26/01/2010 22:51

agree mollieo

MollieO · 26/01/2010 22:55

No but I don't think she was thinking that would happen when she made her promise.

Madness and big tut tuts about very improper child car safety seat strap usage.

It is madness really considering her catalogue of health issues and her advanced age.

juneybean · 26/01/2010 22:58

What channel was it?

daftpunk · 26/01/2010 22:59

BBC1

Portofino · 26/01/2010 23:01

Why would you want a baby in your 50s/60s? I'm 41 and permanently knackered, and I worry about dd being left all alone at a relatively young age.

daftpunk · 26/01/2010 23:04

Oh god.....b/f at 72

SomeGuy · 26/01/2010 23:07

Am quite amused by the Indian couple (trio).

MollieO · 26/01/2010 23:10

The main woman on the programme made a promise to her father on his death bed that she would care for her mother until she died. She didn't think it would take that long and by the time her mother died she was too old to have children normally.

Not sure what to make of the US and Indian couples.

Yes...and she seems fitter than the women in their 50's.....just goes to show...

littleducks · 26/01/2010 23:15

i was watching and then gave up

I do feel sorry for their kids

SomeGuy · 26/01/2010 23:16

I wonder how the Americans fund it all.

SomeGuy · 26/01/2010 23:16

Most of them seem depressingly decrepit to me. Not much you can do about that I suppose.

daftpunk · 26/01/2010 23:18

They were almost falling apart.....

Crazy

MollieO · 26/01/2010 23:19

I know people in their 30s and 40s with those health problems. You wouldn't say that they shouldn't have children.

Don't think I can take JR and Film 2010

off to bed....

Mumof · 26/01/2010 23:22

me too

nomorecake · 26/01/2010 23:24

not sure what i think now.

those children are very much wanted and loved.

but will they end up as carers for their parents at a young age, and resent them?

but then again any of us could suffer from ill health or injuries.

littleducks · 26/01/2010 23:32

I get your point Mollie, i was thinking that when the american lawyer was explaining how she couldnt turn a tap on and so couldnt shower kids or change nappies as she had arthritis, and so was totally reliant on a nanny in the day and her dh at night. My iniatial reaction was horror then i thought that she could have been younger and had a disability restricting her in the same way and i wouldnt judge then.

I would never have children over age 40 i think its too old. However most of my opinion is based on my dhs experience, he was boprn to older parents, not IVF but a 'surprise' baby, his dad was 50ish when he was born and mum in her 40s. He hated it, they couldnt do the things he wanted to do, his dad unfortunately then suffered from ill health which majorly restricted them. He swears he would never inflict that on a child.

MollieO · 27/01/2010 00:13

Maybe they will be better off than those of us who have aged parents and young children to care for.

OP posts:
juneybean · 27/01/2010 01:13

I think every woman deserves to have children.

telsa · 27/01/2010 11:11

They all looked like loving parents who were providing well for their children. Much better than some who are younger, I don't doubt. Who knows about the future - none of us. Some of them had extended families that were supportive. They've thought hard about these things - why attack them? I thought the Indian woman was great - so kind of cool and gently loving - and surrounded by people who would know the baby from birth. Much more than me and mine will ever have!
