I was really worried about what they would do to it, but I absolutely loved it

i thought brydon would be the fox
was suprised to see him snakey

Flame · 26/12/2009 19:20

I was surprised at that too. I normally want to thump Corden but thought he was really good.

it was really well done.

Properly sloooooooow though - really aimed at tiny children

CoqAuVin · 26/12/2009 19:24

oh too slow imo
would have been better at 15 min

Flame · 26/12/2009 19:24

Yup sometime there was a bit too much strolling.

Loved the fly that missed the cobweb then got eaten by a frog

I didn't think the length was too bad. Saw the stage version once, now that was drawn out. I was getting fidgity after 15 minutes...

Nyx · 26/12/2009 19:35

I thought it was fab

wintera · 26/12/2009 20:05

My daughter loved it and sat transfixed, hardly moving for the whole 30 mins I think! It was great. I thought the animation was really quite beautiful too. My MIL and FIL also liked it, and they are not very familiar with the book so I told them that next time we go round to theirs, we will bring it with us!

DD (age 3) refused to watch it! She's recently developed a real fear of The Gruffalo (probably not helped by DH chasing her, growling "I've got terrible feet and terrible claws...") so she started crying and made me go upstairs with her whilst it was on. Her 2yo cousin and the rest of the family enjoyed it though. Will have to see if it's on iplayer and try to persuade her to watch it when she's feeling brave. It's a real shame as she used to really enjoy the book.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 26/12/2009 20:14

DD loved it, agree it was a bit slow but she wasn transfixed. Have sky+ed it at my parents, we are going there for lunch so she can watch it again.

merrycompo · 26/12/2009 20:17

We loved it too
animation brilliantly like the book
3 yr old dd got a bit scared by the fox

paisleyleaf · 26/12/2009 20:18

We loved it in our house.
I thought the art work, sounds and music were beautiful.

Swedington · 26/12/2009 20:20

Is it being repeated? We meant to record it but only caught the last 15 mins.

CaptainNancy · 26/12/2009 20:22

We're going to see it tomorrow... hope it's not tooooooooo drawn out

angelene · 26/12/2009 20:23

In a previous life I worked with animators and I really thought that it was technically stunning.

The voices were good, it was really well-paced, it looked completely beautiful. I really loved it.

hippipotamiHasLost77lbs · 26/12/2009 20:45

Not too drawn out Nancy - only 30 minutes long.

We love it. Dc are 10 and 7 so a while since we read the Gruffalo but they (and MIL) sat glued to it.

(have to confess, we caught it by accident whilst waiting for Dr Who but were glad we did )

Heated · 26/12/2009 20:49

Loved it and beautifully animated. Pace was just right imo, good for the attention span.

So who was who? Got that Robbie Coltrane was the Gruffalo and was Helena BC the narrator?

LizzyLordsALeaping · 26/12/2009 20:59

Oh, it was wonderful
Kept my two (almost 4 and almost 6), Nephew (18mths), PIL, my Mom, BIL, SIL, DH and I entranced for the full 30 minutes.
Was all you'd want it to be.

Rob Brydon was the snake
James Corden the mouse
John Hurt was the Owl (? I think)

Tom Wainwright was the Fox (who is Tom Wainwright? )

Lovely, we watched it again today on i-Player

pinkteddy · 26/12/2009 21:05

Wasn't it Tom Wilkinson?
