I found it incredibly traumatic, not sure I will sleep tonight. I thought AH handled it really well.

Ivykaty44 · 14/12/2009 22:10

Amanda Holden doesn't wear a seat belt sorry but both my dd's picked up on this,

mistletoemulledwinemoodlum · 14/12/2009 22:11

I found that so traumatic... I was gripping the kitchen table and had to peel myself off it at the end. I bet that mummy found it quite distressing to watch back...

npg1 · 14/12/2009 22:13

God, was recording it so only just seen the birth, poor baby's head, scary.

npg1 · 14/12/2009 22:17

Brought back memories for me to, my DD wasnt breathing.

AH was brilliant I think and she did fab, obviously she didnt have control of the situation but good for her!

I think the prog was great!

5inthesleighbed · 14/12/2009 22:23

AH came good in the end, wasn't all "starry look at me". She held herself together during that traumatic bit as well. Well done AH.

sweetkitty · 14/12/2009 22:26

I have been lucky my 3 came out screaming, how scary was that?

I thought she came across quite well (Amanda that is) she was never really "left" to get on with it though. Liked the little bit at the end where as she was giving the baby to the mother, on the front of the shot was the doctor doing the stitches, good realism there!

WetAugust · 15/12/2009 00:00

Terrible continuity....

She arrived back at Heathrow with long bright red varnished finger nails

Then rushed to the hospital...

Where she is next shown with clear nail varnish.

Odd

Saltire · 15/12/2009 08:17

I didn't watch this for the simple reason i can't stand her. But I heard her on the radio last week tellling (maybe Steve Wright) "oh yes I've trained as a midwife" and then went on to say how many weeks she had did "training" and I spluttered tea all over the book iw as reading. What an insult to fully trained midwives

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 15/12/2009 09:34

I agree salty, how bloody patronising

JustAnotherManicMummy · 15/12/2009 09:48

I did watch it for the exact reasons you mentioned Saltire (except I saw her on This Morning). And she didn't disappoint.

The midwives were great (it's my nearest maternity hospital although I've not used it) and contray to most of this thread I don't think AH redeemed herself in the end.

She was a drama-queen from start to finish. And I thoroughly enjoyed the MWs putting her in her place and ROFL'd when she looked stunned as a baby came out of a vagina.

There was some good stuff in there - real births were shown - and the stuff that's normally cut out (baby delivered but not breathing/actual vaginal delivery/dealing with babies who don't survive) which is really important to counter the images of birth we usually see on TV... but the simple fact is most people watched because AH was in it and if we'd had a documentary on the subject it would have reached less people.

AuntyMartha · 15/12/2009 09:50

terrible programme. Made births loo awful. Every one was on their backs, no wonder they ahd a terrible time
silly silly woman

JustAnotherManicMummy · 15/12/2009 09:58

I wondered about that too Aunty but the one at the end at least was hooked up to an epidural so would have to be on back.

I know they do do active birthing at West Mid because my friend had her baby there.

ilovesprouts · 15/12/2009 10:04

i thought she did really well my dd had tears in her eyes when the baby was born, although shes a bit scared as shes due to have a baby in april !!

WinkyWinkola · 15/12/2009 10:08

Stirrups! God. Primitive.

I thought it was a pointless programme. AH is a useless bit of tinselly fluff.

gct · 15/12/2009 11:01

The lipgloss, the singing of the Casualty theme tune as she emerged in her scrubs, the pink Crocs!!!!!!!! I really liked the real midwives and thought they were extremely brave to take her on. As a senior healthcare professional I was amazed that the programme was passed as appropriate even with the high level of supervision.

MWGem · 15/12/2009 11:30

Wow Fern would have been an amazing midwife. I can imagine she would really push (excuse the pun) for 'normal' midwifery care. Well it's never too late to retrain - maybe she still could!

noddyholder · 15/12/2009 11:34

I can't watch her in anything She is whingey girly crap!

ChildOfThe70s · 15/12/2009 11:46

Am I the only one who was gobsmacked by her amazing expressionless face? She obviously WAS very emotional after the birth but she's had so much botox there was no movement in her face whatsoever!

Glad they showed the reality of childbirth too though, my first experience was just like the ventouse one, but glad to say DS2 was very easy and very quick.

AuntyMartha · 15/12/2009 12:47

That woman would never had have to have an epididural if she had been given decent support. She should have been encouraged to be up and about and she might not have had the total melt down.

totally pointless a d utter rubbish

WinkyWinkola · 15/12/2009 13:54

I think she's a nasty piece of work!

pucca · 15/12/2009 13:58

I watched it, i thought her fake crying was pathetic! and the mw was right it was all about her in the start. I also was like this > when she said how she was proud to be a woman (this is the woman who OPTED for a section).

I enjoyed the programme but wished it wasn't AH in it!

noddyholder · 15/12/2009 14:02

She comes across as ruthless in her pursuit of fame Of all the dreadful reality show people she is the one that makes me cringe.Awful plastic woman.

trellism · 15/12/2009 14:22

I would not want Amanda Holden peering up my mimsy.

That is all.

FabIsGettingReadyForChristmas · 15/12/2009 19:16

I really have no time for AH but did enjoy the programme as I thought it would do her good to have a but of real life experience. NO WAY is she a trained midwife and she needs to stop saying that.

I was a bit that she announced he was a boy but I suppose mum could have asked.

My heart was in my mouth when the baby was born not breathing. I had assumed he was okay when he was handed to mum. My baby was born by emergency section and taken away straight away for what felt like ages.
